It's always amazing to discover that this or that boxer has other talents or is good at some other trade or skill. Among boxers who have acted in a movie, who's your best choice for a most memorable or convincing performance? :thumbsup

Victor McLaglen, the first white hope to try to defeat Jack Johnson, went on to have a successful acting career, winning an oscar for 1935 film "The Informer".

I've yet to see the movie, but do you think Tarver was a good actor in the latest Rocky?

I once saw a cameo of Holyfield as himself, but of course it was only a short walk-on role and you couldn't form an opinion on that. A boxer that impressed me some was Joe Bugner in his appearances as a villain in the western movies starring Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. Not enough speaking parts though. But he had a natural presence.

Gary Stretch in Alexander and Dead Mans Shoes.

Also former Cruiser champ Glenn Mcrory has appeared in various British tv shows and was once offered a contract with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Steve Collins in Lock Stock !

Oh yes I agree. I think he could make a career of it.

Ex-champ Ken Norton did a creditable performance as a slave who was seduced by his sex-starved master, the delectable Susan George, in Mandingo. Too bad that wasn't followed by another movie project.

I'll take Tex Cobb in ace ventura, or the golden child.

Impressive! Just imagine that. Who'd expect that these persons with high athletic or physical intelligence would also have significant artistic intelligence. :good

Perhaps not the best, but Ray Mancini starred in a (late 70's Early 80's ??) Horror film about these oil rig workers who's drilling wakes up a big beastie that starts picking them off one by one, it also starred Lyle Alzado and i think, Ken Norton, the film itself was one of those many vairations/cash ins on the Aliens theme, i cant remember the title of the film, but remember thinking that ray was not at all bad.

Mickey Rourke in Sin City

Rourke actually a boxer?

Among non-U.S./non-U.K. fighters, these ones also starred in movies:
Flash Elorde (former world jr. lw champion)
Pedro Adigue (former world jr. ww champion)
Manny Pacquiao (and still at it)

I'd decline to comment on their acting though.

He had many other good performances as well including THE QUIET MAN where he overshadowed John Wayne.

The best was when Mike Tyson was on "Who's the Boss".
Tony Danza was doing impresions of him, and then at the end, Iron Mike knocks at the door and says "I heard someone around here was mkaing fun of me". They Tony yealls out, "Jonathan!".
Tyson's role in Crocodile Dundee 3 was also a classic moment in cinema.

Evander Holyfield played a football player in the movie Wildcats. He doesn't speak or anything, you just see a guy and are like, "hey look its Holyfield!"

Lennox Lewis was on Man of the House. He beat up LL Cool J in that episode.

Of course there was Ali's performance as himself in "the greatest".

duran made a cameo for a few seconds as eddie murphy and richard pryor's club enforcer in harlem nights. he spoke a sentence in spanish. not to memorable for some, but i'll always remember it as i was surprised when he popped up on screen.

carlos monzon had top billing in the full length movies he made in argentina and italy during his heyday. here's a few screen shots and a clip from his movie 'the last round', a violent mafia film in the vein of spaghetti westerns a few dollars more/ a fistfull of dollars.

All of this goes to show that boxers can look to a second career way before their speech becomes slurred. Good if they'll have established a name for themselves early for them to be marketable or have marquee power.
