I was reading ESPN the magazine today and saw that The Punishers trainer was talking about Williams moving up because no one wants a piece of him because of height a WW. Although I think most WW would avoid him because the match up problem he poses I can't see it hapening with all the good fights at his current weight.
Your thoughts?

My thoughts are he is considering it because he can't make 147 anymore, he's still filling out and he has to come in looking like skeletor to make it.

Oh this is garbage. Cintron says he will fight him, so does Margo, as would Clottey and definitely Judah.
WBA and WBC champs are in huge fights and want to fight each other after, of course they won't give you the time of day.
IF he is serious then I've give him FOUR career defining options. Fight those four guys and they would REALLY help his career as a welter and put him in an AMAZING position once the REAL top guns finish facing each other.

He certainly has the body and height to fill out that big frame of his, but Ill tell you if he doesnt come into shap to throw a million punches a round, he will look ordinary to the top fighters in the division. He was fading fast against Margarito, and won the fight on pure punch output. He looked sloppy and slappy at times.

I personally would love to see a rematch with Margo.
That was a hell of a fight and if Margo could've gotten inside earlier it could've gone the other way.
Cintron would be good to and would make more sense for Williams because he could pick up another belt

There's no doubt he'll move up, i think he was 162 at fight time vs Margarito, so its a matter of time.
He should most definitely force his hand at WW first though!! Fight Cintron and if he grabs two belts? He can get a huge fight vs either the SSM vs Cotto winner or the PBF vs Hatton winner.
With all the talent at 47, these guy's are all better off fighting each other and creating legacy!!! They can rematch at 54 if its relevant.

More so than legacy from Williams point wouldn't all the money be at 147 right now?

My thoughts are "Wow, I should go back about a year and find the post where i said the exact same situation would happen."
Like i said before, He will be a middleweight champion in 2008.

if he can make 147, there is no reason to move up to 154 unless he can get a fight with Oscar.
The champs at 154 are Forrest, Alcine, Spinks and Dzinziruk. A rematch with Margarito which he could apparently get if he wants, is worth more $ than fighting any of the champs at 154.

I love PWs but I worry his lack of power would make him less successfull at 54. He hit Margo with some full tilt shots without severe impact on margo...on the other hand maybe if he wasn't so drawn out he'd have more power.

he would probably clean up at 154, but, the big fights are at 147. He can stay a little longer and try to force a big match

Paul Williams up to 154
. . . and fight who? Karmazin; Forrest; Mayorga; Ouma or spinks?

I sure love to see that happen. :D :good
The only reason I can see this happening would be because he is struggling with the weight. Welter is the best div in boxing. Why would anyone want to move up when they have just won a belt and finally have some bargining power.

I think Williams at 54 and 60 is going to expose how poor a puncher he really is. If he doesnt learn some defense and ability to use height a little better, his career will be short lived. I still think he will eventually be the next Diego Corrales. Exciting but very beatable against the solid technicians.

He is moving up because with his height he is struggling with the weight all the time.
He will be natural LHW soon.

He does not need to take a step back and fight a nobody like margarito...Aint no money in that...he is the least of all the welters....He can move to 154 which he would probably be a lot better at and he is still young so he has time to fill in.. margarito could not get on the inside sooner...He could not handle the movement and was made to look like the sloppy wild slugger he is...He cant cut no ring off...lol....Big ass target like Williams was slipping and sliding his ass all around the ring and then finished the fight the stronger man when Margarito had nothing left in the 12th after "his I dream on a haymaker" round 11.
