View Full Version : Guys who look so beatable yet always wins

Well, i know almost all of you have seen a fighter who looked inferior to their opponent physically, sometimes even on paper. Yet these guys have their hands raised at the end of the fight. Sometimes, you even make a wrong fight prediction because of them.
My pick goes to "iron boy" ivan calderon.
He looks so small and beatable, even in some fights he looked ordinary. He even gets dropped. Yet a lot of guys are baffled at their inability to hit him. Who knows how far he can go or he gets knocked out and ruined in his next fight. But one thing's for sure, with calderon, looks can be decieving.

Was John Ruiz.
Yeah, but he had to CHEAT to "win.":yep
Without King, Ruiz wouldn't just be beatable, he would have been beatEN, as soon as he faced rated fighters.

I spent 10 years picking against Hopkins, figuring he would show his age; finally changed my mind for the first Taylor fight and looked what happens.;)

Carlos Monzon...yet he always delivered slow, painful, damage-inflicting beatdowns over top, tough and dangerous competition.
Great pick...so true.
John Ruiz has to be the biggest winner here. Spinks, Pavlik, Margarito

Amazingly he made that "cheating" style work fight after fight. A true feat of sleight of hand.

Then there was Matt Saad Muhammad.. he nearly always seemed on the verge of losing in his title reign.

Vitali Klitschko, Jermain Taylor, John Ruiz.
I wouldn't say Vitaly looks beatable, maybe Sultan Ibragimov, but not Vitaly.

Well Vitali was so awkward and ugly in his style.
Of course he was beatable, but he was effective in his awkwardness.

John Ruiz for sure. Cory Spinks always.
Even Cotto has looked beatable in his last couple of fight - but he continues to win.

That's what the backing of a powerful promoter will do for you.:nod
Were the rules properly enforced against Ruiz's excessive holding, he would have been DQ'd in virtually every fight.:yep
Without King, Ruiz would just have been beatable - he would have beaten as soon as he faced a decent fighter. Just like the first time when Tua knocked this gloirified clubfigher silly in 19 seconds.:hey

Spinks doesn't look shaky at all to me. He had Taylor if he would've just landed more punches.

Agree. He's very slick, and as much as people don't like his evasive action, the guy is like the gingerbread man. He's extremely difficult to catch if you aren't both aggressive and fast.

Juan Diaz! He is slow , one dimensional, is not a puncher , but has a tremendous chin , infinite stanima and work rate.

Why? A prime Hopkins was a ruthless warrior.

This formula makes him beatable by certain styles, and not others. Much as I'm not a fan I wouldn't say he appears universally beatable at the top level.

Gavin Rees looked so beatable against M'baye, yet he's so small I think that completely threw the champ. Bizzare fight!:huh

Juan Diaz is slow, easy to hit, not a puncher , but he keeps winning. That is amazing! He has little natural talent, but makes up for it with a great chin and non stop punching.

Juan Diaz! He is slow , one dimensional, is not a puncher , but has a tremendous chin , infinite stanima and work rate.He still hasn't turned 24 yet. Give my boy a break. He ain't too damn slow either. He was trading with Freitas.

Bizzare fight!:huhi was laughing when they touched gloves.i totally thought he was going to be a slugger using his smaller frame to barge him away and to headhunt......then he just combonates the punches together so well this little 5'3 light welter doing ray leonard impressions...great fight i say big upset aswell

Why? A prime Hopkins was a ruthless warrior.
He always seemed to me just playing Russian Roulette at his age; if you had seen the first Mercado fight and said he would still be one of the finest fighters in the world nearly 13 years later, they would of locked you up and thrown away the key.
I also remember going into the Jones fight, Hopkins was considered a one dimensional KO artist; I always remember KO figuring Jones blows out Hopkins in two, in a up and downer.
For a long time that was my thoughts on Hopkins. I guess I was thick and unable to open up to the fact as he got older he moulded himself into a cutie...

Rocky Marciano looked beatable in a number of his fights.
At times, he looked slow, wild, plodding and yet he won.
A powerful punch is a great equalizer!!!

Sven Ottke always looked like he'd lose. (Of course, you can argue that he did on a few occasions.)
Any James Toney fight at HW. You might think that natural HWs like Ruiz or Rahman or Peter (first fight) would tattoo him, but he was just too slick.
Corrie Sanders. A guy who looks like that should not be a threat to the Klits.
Malignaggi. Feather fisted and looks like a soccer player, but tough as hell.

Mah bad, I just don't like that guy.
WHy? He fights top opposition, granted his last couple of outings have been less than impressive, but he does wat he needs 2 do to get the job done. And he catches a lot of flack for that. I give him a lot of respect for who he fights and wat he does. I personally like JT.
I kno you want Pavlik to win, im rocking wit JT all the way.

You know to truly hate someone, you need an emotional attachment; thus you must of at one time had at least a lot of respect for them, or indeed loved them! ;)

These two fighters are so hittable that they always end up being hurt by opponents and yet they always seems to recover and secure a win.
