that much when determining all time great status??? I ask this b/c I feel that the champions of this generation have gotten many belts in different weight classes, but they never really fought/fight the best at that weight class. I think the most important thing should be who you fought and beat.

Alot of people say Roy Jones is ATG, yet complain about his resume and Floyd Mayweather is an ATG. While both of these fighters are the best skilled during their respective primes, their level of competition has always been very questionable once they both started moving up in weight class.

What do you guys think?

I believe Roy Jones is an ATG. If PBF defeats Hatton in a convincing manner i will rate him an ATG

Floyd already is.... Beating Hatton will just rank him higher.

there's no official rankings, it's all a matter of opinion, and for the most part an exercise in absurdity

Yeah I think he should be. Like it or hate it . . . and people will always question the quality of opposition . . . but . . . it will still go down the books that PBF is already a five divisional champ. And that should qualify him to join the ATG list.

belts are a nice benchmark....look at how tough its been for so many fighters to just get a belt. Good fighters like Ward, Sheika, Quiles, Raheem, Nate Campbell havent gotten one....but on the other hand, Fana has one. So..its a nice benchmark, just keep it in perspective. Championships are different altogether, however

Floyd's resume is just as good as pernell whitaker's. Has everyone forgotten the fact that he has wins over genaro hernandez, zab judah, jose luis castillo, corralles and De La Hoya. If he beats Hatton, then PBF arguably surpasses Whitaker.

I'll cosign this. and the question the original poster has to ask himself is why has there never been a mexican born fighter to win 4 titles in 4 weightclasses.

If you go back over the last 30 years in the sport only a select few have won four let alone five titles in five weightclasses.

I don't think that multiple belts mean very much but actually being the champion of multiple weight classes should carry some weight.

There is no way in hell at this point Mayweather is ATG material, but it's impossible to say who actually is ATG material. It's just a bunch of bullshit, just like the P4P crap.

If it is impossible to say who is ATG material how can you say with such certainty that FLoyd is not?

make a list of fighters who were CHAMPIONS in 3 weight classes, like Floyd was at 130, 135, 147, and Ill show you a list of all time greats

Multiple titles help, but you have to look at the whole picture.

It's hard to compare since there are more titles out now, and different weigh-in rules which allows guys to fight in more weight classes.

Just because you win a bunch of belts in different divisions now, I wouldn't say that I would be too impressed unless they went up like 5 divisions. Back in the good old days when boxing was at its best, there were 8 divisions, now there are 17. Henry Armstrong won belts in lightweight-middleweight. Thats a big jump, and he held the welterweight title too. Now you have light this, or super that. Its just stupid.
