can anyone give me a list of names and probably fighting styles of the currently active top german fighters today? i read somewhere on here that fights are regularly shown on TV, and that the boxing scene there is enjoying a resurgence with a strong following. i'm not to familiar with the good fighters there at the moment, and only know about abraham, beyer, urkal, ottke (retired). i'd like to know some other active top names, or anyone to look out for in german boxing along with their fighting styles. thnx for any help.

First I want to let you know that there is also a guy called Felix Sturm (born in Germany of Bosniak heritage, I believe).

Mario Veit, who is a Cottbus native (Cottbus is located near the Polish boarder in the south-east of Brandenburg), is a good counterpuncher who simply works an ordinary 1-2. He strongly depends on his jab and is somewhat psychological fragile as you could have seen vs. Calzaghe. His chin is just average, same as his handspeed. He is also very stiff - stylewise he could be compared best to Henry Maske but "The Gentleman" was far more relaxed in the squared circle.
Veit will meet fellow stablemate Jürgen Brähmer, once a promising prospect but trough years in jail being a bit hampered and softened - just lost his aggressivness. Brähmer is a boxing puncher with a good technique. Brähmer's style is more leant to the American style - he isn't going much backward in defence but tries to bob and wave. His chin is abit above average. His stamina is very questionable and he is kind of a happy go lucky chap.
Veit won the first ecounter by MD after being down in the opening seconds of the fight. They will meet again September 15.

germany has no real top fighters right now. sebastian sylvester is the best of them right now IMO. since his win over asikainen, he has become a true contender.
thomas ulrich, mario veit, michel trabant and jurgen bramer are only fringe contenders right now.
huck and stieglitz are not german. sieglitz is russian and huck was born in jugoslavia.
the germans just give them german names so people will think that they are german. why they do that, i dont know. i think its pathetic.

Stieglitz is ethnic German who was born in Russia as far as I know. I don't know much about Huck's family but Sturm for example was born in Germany and he considers himself German despite that he's ethnic Bosniak (if I remember well). On the other hand I've never really understood why for example Abraham fights under the German flag. I mean, I know he can earn more money that way, but to give up his nationality just for the cash... I don't know.

He lives in Germany since 1995 (from '99 - '00 went back to Armenia) and found a new home in Germany. It's the same with people going to the US to find a new home and earn more cash, make a living.
Sure his roots are in Armenia and he consider himself an Armenian but still his new home is Germany. I see no problem with this.

Abraham still has an Armenian passport, darien!
He is quite popular in Germany-people truly like him.Nothing wrong with an ownerchip of a piece of paper called German passport IMO.
As for Stieglitz, the German, his spoken German is probably worse than Abraham's language skills.
He may be an ethnic German, but he has nothing in common with an ordinary Germany. He is as much russian as Denis Inkin,or Valuev.
Doesnt Huck stem from Macedonia?

but when a guy like john duddy comes to the US, nobody changes his name and turns him into a US citizen. he is still irish.
same for PAC MAN and many others.
but in germany, this happens.
now i have no problem if a fighter comes to germany and makes some cash.
but this can easily change the perception of germany.
because this can lead to the perception that germany is a boxing powerhouse!!
this may be true for the management and training of fighters.......BUT this is certainly not the case when it comes to germany actually producing world class german fighters!!!

You are right,mate!
German promoters have the neccessary cash to play in the big boys' league.German coaches are competent and capable.Germany is one of the biggest pro boxing markets out there.German tv can pay quite a lot of money.
Germany 's amateur fighters are dwarfs compared with their russian, ukranian, cuban, belarussian counterparts. Most of Germany's talented amateur fighters stem from the countries of the former soviet union.
Germany 's gym are dominated either by so called "aussiedlers"(a german word for russian immigrants who claim to have german blood in order to get a german passport) or Turkish/Arab fighters.
You can hardly find a Fritz,Dieter,Claus,Ralff or another german name among their peers in the gyms.
Instead you can find names like Ali,Mohamed,Ismail,Abdoul,Said,or names like Waldemar(germanised version of Vladimir),Viktor,Artur, and so on.
However,as long as Germany can attract talented fighters from the countries of the former soviet union there is no need to worry for German promoters.
Funnily, the German public doesnt seem to accept fighters from Africa,Cuba, the Arab countries,or south america.
You have to be either european, turkish, russian, armenian,or iranian to be accepted in Germany.

I guess you're right. This often happens here in Hungary too. For example one of the best Hungarian handball players is called Carlos Perez and he was born in Cuba, olympic gold medallist in women's kayak Natascha Janic is from Serbia and to mention an example from boxing: Polish light-middleweight prospect Gregorz Proksa has also applied for Hungarian citizenship.

I didn't know this about Super-G - does he live in Hungary?

Yes, he lives and trains in Budapest with László Veres, Kótai's former and Matolcsi's current trainer.

 Odo's at it again, busting the historic myths about the large German immigration to Eastern Europe. Thank god you have such a deep, profound knowledge about this topic that exceeds all historic facts. I mean who can argue with your "first name theory" because after all, if a guys first name is slavic, he can't be ethnic German, that's obvious isn't it? :yep
I think we have to rewrite history because Odo exposed the truth - there were never any Germans in Eastern Europe, these people are all disguised Slavs who pretend to be German. :yep
Sylvester´s level keeps changing from fight to fight, and he´s last win was like handed to him, since the over-confident Asikainen fought completely without strategy, just chasing and banging Sylvester. He did better until he got obsessed to KO and was punched illegally & intentionally in the neck by Sylvester. Still, Sylvester is a good contender, but grande finale with Asikainen or meeting John Duddy makes more since than chasing a title he can´t possibly win. He is a boxer who moves forward. Against Asikainen, he couldn´t really succeed in this, only remained in his shell and took what was offered. There´s no way he can give an entertaining showing against the champs, they are too skillful (Sturm, Taylor) or powerful (Abraham) for him.

I would like to see him vs. Duddy, it's a very winnable fight for him - and even a fight vs. Sturm intrigues me...

I have family friends who are "Siebenbürger Sachsen"...man and wife...both 100% Sachsen, without any Romanian or Hungarian ancestry at all - they only intermarried amongst themselves, traditionally...BUT, the man knew hardly a word of German, and only spoke Romanian and some Hungarian, because he had studied in Romanian schools for most of his life...it was only after he married his wife and left for Germany that he started learning German again...apparently that wasn't that uncommon!

I don't think you're right, Odo.
We accept Iranians but not Arabs?
I'm pretty sure that 95 % of the Germans (and of all Europeans or Americans) think that Iran is an Arab country.
We love (and overestimate) South American soccer player, so why shouldn't we accept their boxers?

Current German HW Champion is Andreas Sidon a solid journeyman of 44 who fights to feed his family.
