Difficult to see this happening. The football season has just finished and it's common knowledge that they're in trouble so nobody new is going to sign up. And indeed, some of the football subscribers may cancel their subscriptions.

The big worry for boxing fans will be the fact that Setanta invested heavilly in Boxing. If investors, Sky or anyone else sees that as a big reason for there failure expect to see less and less Boxing.

It isn't seen as a big reason for their trouble. The big problem is the English prem deal the season after next gives Setanta so few games then the current business model just isn't viable. They just will not retain/gain enough football fans with only the Sat PM games.
A case of 'wait and see' really. Lets hope they turn it around somehow.

Sports Network are in the middle of a legal case with Setanta yes.
SN have also lost court cases vs and owe Joe and Millenium stadium money.
Now that SN has convieniently gone into administration who knows where that leaves any money owed. I hope they all have good lawyers and that they follow the Directors of SN to their new home.

Setanta paid big money for Hatton vs Castillo and for Calzaghe vs Jones Jnr. They also paid big money to ****** thinking they would get Amir Khan. Add to that the reported 15mil they have given Hayemaker for there promotions and the Haye fights.
They have said that Calzaghes fights got them big subscriber numbers but did they manage to retain any of them???
Personally I think that Setanta should of focused all the funds on everything but Premiership, FA Cup and Inrternational Football. Become a station for hardcore sports fans.
If i did not have setanta and liked football, Spurs the team I support might play a match on setanta once a month so I ca jsut go to the pub, most of the FA Cup and England games are on ITV and if its a big one I can go to the pub again.
I am not going to go to the pub to watch a boxing or tennis match because they wont be showing it, and I am not going to go to the pub or a mates house to watch the cricket or golf because it goes on to long.
Setanta should do foreign football and other sports only. They get hardcore fans of those sports who will pay a premium amount. All the other sport is cheap compared to FA Cup, Premiership and England games.

Everyone has an opinion on what setanta should and shouldn't buy. It gets a bit boring.
Trevor East is a very clever man. He was previously a top man at Sky Sports. It was his Business plan Setanta have followed. Without the EPL you do not get the man on the street. Without the man on the street you will not grow into a business as big (note: not neccessarily profitable, yet) as the private equity owners wanted.
And without growing into a big business, it can't be sold at a big profit for the owners.
Call it bad timing re the recession. Call it a bad bid just coming short for the Monday night EPL package. Call it growing too quickly. Probably all of the above.
It is easy to forget that although this is important for us a lot of peoples livelihood depend on this. If it goes under I will miss Andy Kerr, Bunce et al. There has been a real sense of fun at Setanta.
In the meantime, lets support them in the only way we can, by continuing to pay the subs!

Sky Sports have such a monopaly they were never going to compete. The market is missing a harcore sports channel.

When the EC stuck their noses in and ruled that no one company could own all the EPL rights Setanta saw their opportunity to take on Sky. To a large extent they have succeeded. A few years ago only a few anoraks in the UK knew Setanta.
A 'hardcore' sports channel would not have the subs (and therefore financial muscle) to bid for big fights.
Don't want to sound like a saddo but I feel for the setanta employees because through the medium of TV I have got to 'know' them. A couple also post on here, as you know.

If they set up a podcast that would be great. I would pay maybe £20 a year to subscribe. Maybe if they do a monday and a thursday show. Monday would recap and thursday would be a preveiw.
Also if its a podcast, buncey is not working for a tv company and can say whatever he wants. Meaning all the stories will be juicy!

I'm a new subscriber, from what I can tell, Setanta basically has something of everything, little bits of sport here, some there....just think maybe they should focus on a core set of sports, instead of the scatter gun approach.

i like football, boxing , ufc, golf, in that order.
if the charge per month was £4 for round up shows inc football matters, bunces hour setante news etc and then all others were ppv ie £3 per live football match £5 per big fight ie hay klit £3 overseas fight and so on, i think there subs would increases alot as some months i do feel that im spending £16 ( i have it in 2 rooms ) and not getting a great deal,
just a thought, and setanta you cant hire for my brilliance but i will work freelance lol ;)

Honestly, is it though?
The Sauerland deal means fuck all. Sure its nice to have some saturday night Boxing a bit more regularly, but domestic German Boxing and the odd world title fight won't gain them enough to justify the contract. Will anybody really care if Huck, Povetkin etc aren't screened? Apart from a few internet fans?
The Top Rank deal is alright, but then again there are hardly any US fights on setanta. The last one was Bradley v Alexander I believe which was two months ago, with only Cotto v Clottey upcoming. If Sky are interested in buying US fights (as in, sell PPV's) they'll buy them.
The Hayemaker deal is the only one that may be missed. However, as I presume Haye himself is part of the deal it would be an attractive proposition to sky and itv. If itv could afford it, a few more saturday shows a year would be good for them, and Haye on itv1 would do great audience figures. Or, Hayemaker goes to sky and Haye himself is on Box Office while the regular shows become Friday Fight Nights. Either way, they wouldn't get as good a deal as setanta.
Finally, the Bunce Hour. Now I really enjoy this show but if setanta went that show would be kapiche. As mentioned earlier in this thread, Bunce won't "tow the company line" which is what endears him to us, but isnt ideal for most TV companies. Plus Bunce has plenty of other gigs as a freelance journalist so won't exactly be chugging moonshine in a rough London alley singing the night away.
Personally, not subscribing to Setanta myself-this seemed a smart deal as setanta would have been included on the sky sports package=win.
I think its unlikely they will stop broadcasting, and I'm 99.5% sure Haye v Klitschko will be on there. However, to suggest if they did that "It's going to be a fucking disaster for boxing coverage in this country if Setanta go down." is crazy. The occasional US, German and UK cards they show do not warrant people paying £13 a month just for the Boxing. Then again, I find it ricockulous that people pay £40+ a month for sky sports just to watch the Boxing and no other sports.
Setanta going bust=no great loss.

I've no doubt that the big fights with British fighters would be picked up elsewhere and Setanta's coverage of british fighters isn't great. What would be the biggest loss would be the overseas live fights - particularly from Top Rank that i can't see being picked up.

Wrong, SKY WOULD show these fights but Setnata had a deal with Top Rank to have exclusive UK rights. Before the deal they were paying over the odds for the rights and SKY aren't stupid, hence the reason we're not talking about the possibility of a demise at SKY.
