sorry for all these Basilio posts just been watching some of him.
This fight was an excellant contest one of the greatest fights ever.
This was an excellant tactical and physical fight.
Robinson was the master boxer, he was tall, fast and powerful and regarded as the best fighter in the sport. He was coming off a short break to defend his Middleweigth title against Carmen Basilio the Welterweight champion of the world.
Basilio was the classic fighter in this fighter-boxer match up. He was shorter, more aggresive and packed a hell of a left hook. He worked the body well and bobbed and weaved into range and gave many a boxer hell.
As the fight started Robinson looked to keep the advancing Basilio at range with his jab which led to an intresting battle as Basilio tried to get into Robinsons range and Robinson wanted to keep him away. The fight followed this pattern of give and take rounds till about the 7th where the action started heating up and exchanges became more commen. The fight was dead level throughout.
Going into the championship rounds Robinson was up by 2 rounds after winnning the 11th and 12th and looked to be on a roll. But Basilio battled back expertly and foguth back to make it level going into the last round. The drama was immense in these rounds. People there must have been asing themselves 'can Basilio still do it?' and 'Will Robinson keep his lead?'.
This led to an exciting last round where i though (i only had a short highlight of this round) Basilio seemed to get the better of it and winning the fight on my card.
heres my scorecard
Basilio: 2,4,5,8,10,13,14,15
Robinson: 1,3,6,7,11,12
Basilio 8-7
what was your guys scores?
