Its very easy to believe, Lara is a lefty and a lot bigger than Hatton. TBH I was very happy when Lara was announced as one of Hattons sparring partners for the Pac fight as he would have gotten a good workout with a decent lefty. Obviously it didn't end up making too much difference though....
Why not Paul Williams he's a lefty!!

Lara is a decent lefty, and in my opinion his cover drive is significantly better than Hattons...no contest

Just out of interest, during 24/7,who was the guy that Hatton knocked down?-either he was KD legitimately and the footage was heavily edited or it was staged to begin with:think

nah i think that was for real i think the guy hatton put down fights at super feather one of rogers fighters. As for Lara i have no doubts he busted Hatton up as Hatton was bruised up and also Lara's a lot bigger and also a damn fine prospect.

Not hard to believe at all. The guy is likely at least as good as Hatton...and considering he's bigger and is a southpaw with skill...a guy as limited as Wicky would be easy meat to him.
It might also partly explain why Hatton looked as apprehensive walking to the ring....he took a beating in sparring and was walking into a beating in the ring. Sparkled out cold inside 2 rounds.

Does that make Lara the P4P number two then?

It is true... Lara himself confirmed it here:

It is in spanish yeah and I don't feel like traducing shiet right now but we should take his word as the truth since Lara is not a bullshitter... he's a real humble dude and doesn't want to prove anything to anyone.
But, as everybody mentionned before, Hatton shouldn't be criticized for this... Lara is just bigger, is a southpaw and an extremely good boxer... if he wasn't able to KO the smaller Hatton he wouldn't be such a good prospect.

Probably correct, though we'll never know for absolute certain.
Lara is a better and bigger fighter than Hatton.
Lara was an awful choice of sparring. He's nothing like Pacman. How are you going to train for a smaller, quicker, aggressive southpaw by fighting a bigger, slower and more conservative boxer/puncher? Idiots.

Lara was A sparing partner......the problem with fighting the best in world is that its usually pretty hard to get sparing partners that compare well with the guy you are fighting.
A rubbish choice..clearly..as he got bashed up it seems.

If Hatton had of being kicking the shit out of his sparring partners you'd be complaining they were uncompetitve....

Maybe he asked for "that good Cuban prospect", meaning the small, fast and powerful Gamboa, and instead some twat got the big guy Lara in instead.;)

Its a possibility, Rays not exactly clued up on boxing.....:D

The elusive quality they were supposed to be looking for is competitive. i.e. not getting black eyes, on the verge of KO'd, or slapping a road sweeper about.

You have me at a disadvantage, I've never seen the sparring in question so I've no idea if Hatton was on the verge of being KO'd. Was it as serious as the time he was on the verge of being KO'd against Lascano? Or not as serious as that horrific brush with defeat?
Ortiz would have been a good choice as sparring partner.

It was a bad choice of sparring any which way you look at it. The guy was too big for Hatton full stop, nevermind for facing Pac who also presents completely different stylistic problems. Who were his other sparring partners?
And well..if he got bashed up and nearly KO'd like against Lazcano presumably Howard Foster would not be overseeing sparring. They would have just sent young Lara home and probably withheld his monies. Or as one particular poster likes to say, "admin error" :blurp

As I understand it Lara, who was fighting on the same bill, did a couple of spars with Hatton. I don't think whatever masterplan Mayweather snr had devised (and Hatton ignored) hinged on Lara emulating Pacs style. Hatton had 2 or 3 other sparing partners (who's name I forget) who were 16-2 type fighters, nothing exceptional and I don't know what styles they could present to Hatton.
You are assuming they ever had a plan. The plan sounded to me like "Rick is bigger n um..stronger...n..yeah he'll whoop de little guy"
It was poor from top to bottom, no professionalism.

I think you're doing mayweather a disservice, I'm sure using Hattons percieved strength advantage was part of the 'plan' (and rightly so) but Hatton just either didn't execute or wasn't good enough execute whatever Mayweather had come up with

At least that one particular poster doesn't automatically take whatever comes out of somebody's mouth as read when it suits them without bothering to consider that there may well be a completely difference explanation. If you don't think administrative errors happen all the time in business due to departmentalisation then you're either a student with no experience of practical work or else an Iceland shelf stacker too thick to do anything else. You seem like a reasonably intelligence chap so it's either the former or else you're conveniently believing what suits you. Which is it?
A shelf stacker here probably pays as well as your average admin in the UK. Nice insult!
Chill out chief ;)
