After his effort against Briggs, I think that's the best thing for all of us.

I won't post the source since it'll get deleted anyway, but it's from doghouse boxing. He was looking to fight Valuev as of a month ago. He's in training in Houston and allegedly looking good, according to Ivaylo Gotzev.

What a dissapointment that was, there I was thinking his performance would be ATLEAST as good as the one against Brewster because of the long layoff and ring rust :patsch

I disagree. One loss shouldn't erase all the good fights he had. He beat a good inside fighter in Guinn and beat Brewster in a great slug-fest. I wouldn't mind seeing Sergei vs. Lamon II would you?

No, it's always fun watching two has beens pummel each other some more. Brewster is done; I guess Sergei's next fight will tell us where he stands; my hopes aren't very high though.

this is the second time he's been in a huge layoff for no good reason during his prime. its an insult to fans.

Why was the Liakhovich vs Briggs fight a stinker (I have not seen it) - was it because both lacked the condition to maintain a high work rate?

I think Sergei got discouraged early by Briggs hitting him, Briggs threw all of about 5 punches a round and Sergei had man-tits; I'll leave it at that.

I hope he comes back soon
He is inconsistent, but against Brewster, he showed us the total package. Against Briggs.........I'll leave it at that.
Since I never thought highly of Brewster, I never thought too highly of Sergei for beating him. Losing to Briggs was a shame, but not overly surprising. I've been waiting to see him go against someone like Ruiz or Byrd, and I'm still hoping it happens, ...then we'll see how good he really is (since few have victories over those boring bastards in this decade).

Briggs hit Lyakhovich with hard counter-punches in the first round and Lyakhovich turned into cautious mode for the night. It was basically a match between one guy who was damn near scared of the other's power against a 280 pound man with asthma and the inability to move 5 steps without getting exhausted. That equals to a garbage match. How someone can get knocked out by a 280 pound man with asthma and exhausted is beyond me.

Liakhovich is far from done. Good fighter who has still got plenty left.
I can't understand the reasoning on how some guys on this site can completely discount a fighter who hadvery impressive performances in his fights up to his latest, but then with one loss which he was winning til the last round, he's suddenly a hasbeen who should go away.
Talk about shallow.

I'd like to see him kick Valuev's ass.

I think he's now pidgeon-holed into being seen as a big risk/no reward fight. A very tough fighter who can't get a name opponent to risk fighting him, cause there's not much to gain from it.
If he can't get a big name to fight him, he had better start fighting the C Level fighters like Billy Zumbrun or Vinnie Maddelone to stay sharp and hopefully earn another big fight, cause his career at the top level seems to be slipping away, with the sitting and doing nothing.

what a waste of talent, the guy needs to fight and he is not doing anything....
he could beat any of the current belt holders if he puts in the effort that he showed against Brewster....
