View Full Version : Where to now for Holt?

I didnt pick him to win especially in Columbia.
But having said that he was clearly winning this fight until the TKO.
But i vividly remember seeing Holt against Thomas Davis and thinking he wont be able to bang with the big heavy handed hitters at 140.
So what now does he just go around trying to find Light Handed fighters or blown up Lightweights to keep his career going.
He has talent its just a shame he has a chin like Zab Judah.

I said it before this fight and I'll say it again, I never trusted this guy's chin and I think it'll be too much of a hindrance to him for the rest of his career. He might be able to crack into the top 10 if he rebounds well, but he'll never be a titleholder or even an elite contender in his weight class because that weak chin of his will always be exploited by the better fighters and bigger punchers in his weight division.Well said El Rey.
You can teach all the skill in the world but if you cant take a punch thats it. You will forever be a ESPN Friday Night Fighter.

Lol o god. Stop it with the Zab Judah stuff! Zab went 11 rounds with Cotto, getting hit left and right. I guess Torres has a worst chin then Zab, since Zab lasted longer with a stronger Cotto? Zab could've went that whole fight. Holt's chin is worst then Zabs. God, lol people still hold that one fight against him lol.
Ever since Holt got KO'D by Thomas Davis I just knew he wasn't going to make it to the tops. When he got hit by that one right hand he was done and he really doesn't recover well or has his senses about him when he is hurt. I feel sorry for those types who have a lot of skill and promise but their chins or recovery ability betray them. Sad times.

He has a lot of talent, but more often than not, his chin will fail him when he's in with big punchers. He could become a belt holder though.

Significant SETBACK for Holt!!
He's now gonna have to fight and beat a rising contender such as a D-Hop or Lamont Peterson to put himself back in the real championship picture.
Friggin SHAME!! I have yet to see the fight and I'm wondering about the circumstances of the KO. Holt must learn and work harder!! many commented on his mindset being relaxed before the fight. I wonder if overconfidence in his ability didnt get the best of him. If it did?? He had better approach every round of every fight like it's his last, from here on. If he really wants success.

 Yup. Back to ESPN2 he goes, where the guys over there will try their best to hype their man up again, but we've already seen Holt's limitations. Once he gets in there with a fighter with pop, his chin will undoubtedly betray him again.Great Post.:yep

I think its going to be a long climb back up unless he gets a favourable ranking and doesnt waste time in trying to get into a eliminator to become someones mandatory.
Not sure if people are going to be clammering to fight Holt, risky guy to take on and now his cred aint all that high.

I'm not colombian and I saw the fight last night. There was an english commentary, so this fight was somehow telecasted to the USA (an indy PPV, i guess). The left hook that dropped Holt was a monster punch that would have dropped almost anyone in the division. The stoppage was a little bit early, but nothing to really complain about. Holt was taking lots of shots against the corner and not really fighting back. He would have not survived the final round anyway. Holt lost the chance to stop Torres in the 6th by being too cautious over a fighter that was ready to go. It looked through all the fight that Holt lacked confidence on his chin. He ran way too much (think of Cory Spinks) while being a challenger in the champ's hometown. I knew that Torres was goig to catch him sooner or later.

I think it's going too far to say Holt can't win a belt. It's not like he got dusted in the 3rd round. Now, I agree with the gist of his having a poor chin, and worse that he doesn't seem to recognize just how fragile he is.
On the other hand, he lasted longer against Torres than I thought he would. I'd like to see the fight to judge exactly how it was going and whether the stoppage was legit.

He was robbed against Torres, he won that fight except for the bogus stoppage, he wasn't at all hurt. He should go forward like Marquez did after 'losing' to John

friday night fights main event fighter until his next knockout loss,
then friday night fights undercard fighter until he gets knocked out again, then gate keeper for top20 140 pounders until he gets cracked again
by that time he'll be a 147lb journeyman, short notice fighter and probably remain in that status until he's no longer cleared to box

unless your colombian,i dont think anyone here has actually seen the fight.
So....
How the hell is Holt chinny when for all we know, was a bad or premature stoppage?
:thinkHow did myself and others know about Holts chin.
Like me and El Rey i was watching ESPN Friday night fights when this happened to Holt from Thomas Davis a guy that was 8-1-1 and had been not boxing for 2 years aswell as took the fight on short notice.
Pretty much a Club Fighter and this is what he did to Holt.

Hatton
Harris
Witter
I seriously dont his chin isnt good enough. If anyone with decent power challenged him Holt will get hurt everytime.

I think it was pretty clear that Holt has a weak beard prior to this fight, but this doesn't prevent him from having a decent career with better match making. I never thought he was top tier anyway. BTW Torres isn't top tier either.

But damm give him a break, he is a good fighter who got caught.

Here he was whipping Davis then just got reckless and got caught.
I was going for Davis here and was happy, but Holt does have some good skills.
All of a sudden everyone is bagging him out due to he got stopped.
I mean if davis caught other people coming in reckless like that and showing no respect like that they would get ko'd too.

Thomas Davis may have been losing the round but as soon as he hit Holt with his first Power shot it was good night.
Yes i agree with Holt still has career to some extent but this career will include many more fights on ESPN and not many on HBO or even Showtime.
I seen the Davis fight and i dont think that getting KO'd by a guy that has been out of the ring for 2 years is impressive at all yeah sure he has skills but i was always picking Torres and i did as i said in the tipping comp and i was right.
Some people are like how could this happen well ill tell you how Holt wasnt as good as he was made out to be by ESPN its that simple.

It doesnt matter if he was out for a year or a day, he caught Holt with a great punch and followed it up.
Exactly he was out for 2 years, it looks like he will get underestimated then, especially since he was getting battered around before the ko.
He hit holt after holt was getting reckless and showed no respect.

everyone on here is trashing holt just because of a loss to davis back on espn. This guy does not have the best set of whiskers i agree with that, i remember him getting rocked by david diaz on showbox awhile back. But holt came back and won it (even knocked him down on the 1st). The fight against torres would have shown holt rebounding off the knockdown to win, however the premature stoppage and bad ring circumstances (like getting you vision blurry and eye swole due to a flying beer can from the crowd) prevented that. What i now see from the ESB crowd is this complete dismissal of a contender that has some hellish power and some incredible combination punching. He knocked torres down with a left-right combo from hell. I dont remember seeing cotto doing that to torres. He will become champ due to his combination punching, speed and power. He seems to me like a fighter who will take that chance to throw off a combo when the other guy is throwing his. He has some balls and some tools, you are damn right he will be champ one day despite this torres robbery.
oh and btw: I know some of you will say, 'well cotto beat torres' but if cotto fought torres in colombia torres would have won with the ref stopping the fight after cotto got knocked down those first couple of times. so chew on that haters.

Robot16 ([Only registered and activated users can see links]): dont try to explain that holt has skills to these losers. They obviously never watch boxing and dont understand that fighters underestimate someone and get caught. (I actually remember watching that fight and how teddy atlas was talking about how davis had a lanky frame that he could deliver some hellish power with and then BOOM! holt goes down. Teddy can definetly call fights). they just see that one setback and completly dismiss him. dont worry, i am logging these posts for later so people can eat some crow when Holt wins a title.

Unfortunately at this level you have to have a solid chin to make it. Even someone like Malignaggi might be able to KO Holt if he lands enough.

zakman: did u see the youtube video of round 11 against torres, does Holt's chin look that shaky?! he seemed to have recouperated very quickly considering he just got knocked down against ricard torres who is one hellava banger at 140. Remeber torres knocked down cotto and had him very hurt. A lot of you are dismissing kendell holt like he is a nobody. This man will become champ and has some serious skills. his chin is alright not the greatest, but i have seen him come off the ground to win and that says a lot in my book about his heart.

watch out for holt man thats all i gotta say. Lets see who jumps the bandwagon later on. dont worry i got these posts logged. its gonna be fun trust me. i watched enough boxing in my life to know talent when i see it and his counterpunching is world class stuff. and i did see that fight 2 years ago when he got starched, the fact he rebounded off of that to beat arounatis and torres and david diaz speaks volume about his heart and head. And yes, he beat torres in my eyes despite what the record says.

Soi what if you saw Holt get ko'd by Davis, MAB got ko'd by Junior Jones and Pacman, why didnt he get ko'd by The prince Naz then?
Pacman has been stopped before why hast he been ko'd lately.
Why Didnt lennox lewis get ko'd by Tua since tua can hit harder then Hasim and mcall?
Not trying to go on about this, but we all saw him get ko'd by Davis.
But we all have seen Holt's skills, he stopped David Diaz, Ruined Isaac Hlatshwayo ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) undefeated record (who is gonna fight medley).
We all saw Torres fight and get a gift from Mike arnoutouis(sic).
Make a poll and ask who everone think has the better skills between Holt and Torres.
On another site and other previews just about everyone is picking Holt to win, but they were worried because it was in Columbia!

Having said that Thomas Davis is far from in the same league as Junior Jones and Pacman now isnt it.
Holt just another ESPN boy that the crew down there got behind. Sure he has talent but so has Amir Khan now he has the same problem Holt does you cant touch to have a granite chin.
My point isnt about how good Holts skill is. Its more to do with i picked because the fight was in Columbia also it was against a guy that with Power which Holts chin was always suspect. My pick had more to do with that im just saying Holt might win agaist the David Diaz'z of the world or maybe even the Gavin Rees.
But he is going to struggle big time against the real contenders.
