View Full Version : Probably one of the most ridiculous statements ever.
I was browsing though a Mayweather vs. Corrales article (I was researching whether Corrales was p4p before he lost.. no answer yet) and I came across probably the most ridiculous statement in boxing ever.
The article below is a portion taken from [Only registered and activated users can see links]
Weakness: At first glance, Mayweather appears to be an outstanding fighter. However, there are several glaring weaknesses. First up is his lack of "D". Mayweather got all he could handle in his last fight, a ninth-round TKO over journeyman Emanuel Burton. Mayweather closed out the night bleeding badly from the nose and mouth, and along the way he also injured his right hand. For a fighter with all of his physical talents, Mayweather simply gets hit far too often. He stays inside too long and admires his own work. There are also some questions in regards to Mayweather's chin. Both his father and his uncle suffered from tender whiskers and the jury is still out on Junior's jaw.
This is all based on one fight.:patsch

It's all based around the Augustus fight where Mayweather was given a lot more trouble than he should of been .

Hence the statement, "You are as good as your last fight".

Yes, it's funny to look back at that and try to comprehend how somebody could come to that conclusion.

Mayweather did look ordinary against journeyman Augustus and he did take enough shots in the fight. If you hadn't seen many fights you'd be forgiven for not thinking he had great defensive skills.

Everybody who has followed boxing all these years know who Mayweather was. He was already quite famous at the time of the Corrales fight.
Besides, Floyd was already a defensive whiz at 130. Anybody with proper boxing knowledge doesn't need hindsight to realize this. It was pretty damn obvious during that day. The writer just made his statements based on one fight.

Not at that point. Floyd had shown a great defence by the Augustus fight.

I mean...no comment..if you look at the augustus fight and knew who he was..he is not exactly easy to stop....Not by the smaller floyd anyway despite the superior skill advantage.. Floyd hit him 3 times for every 1 punch landed by Emanuel. I mean ....floyd made him miss a lot and just decided to make it a down and dirty fight. I would think floyd haters out of all people would like that kind of fight and the Corley fight b/c floyd didnt even give a shit about defense and decided to go in there and do what the haters always wanted him to do...TAKE RISKS. I knew floyd will be hated on no matter what.

Mayweather was not given any "problems" by Burton.
He outboxed him on the inside, in what was a pretty entertaining bout, and took a shot or two which caused him to bleed.
Mayweather adapts to his opponents - He chose to take the fight to Burton and overwhelmed him with his handspeed and combinations.
He did encounter a few problems in his next matchup though!
Still, seems to strange to read that about him, an over eager brawler with no defense and a suspect chin?

Corrales was not p4p before Floyd..that is kind of crazy...Floyd was his first big name..He was top 130 contender though and was highly regarded as a menace and a dangerous opponent. The freitas fight showed me his metal and the Casamayor fight the one he lost.
What even made the statement even more ridiculous is the fact that he used the term "glaring weakness" in describing Floyd'd D. :-(

Speak for yourself on the 'didnt know who mayweather was" line:good
i've known of floyd from the amateur/olympic days and watched his entire PRO career transgress. As for when he fought Augustus?? there was another LW Champ making him an offer and he refused and went back down to 130. I posted video of that titlelist EXPOSING Floyd's D far better than Augustus did and that took place almost a year PRIOR:yep
The author of that article either A: Knew nothing of boxing, B: Hates Floyd more than ANYONE, or C: Is a blind, incompetent, TARD:good
I'm one of floyd's most staunch critics but you cant let feelings cloud the rationality of you're judgement:nono

Maybe if Spadafora was more interested in being a fighter instead of a criminal, they could've fought eacth other. If I remember correctly, their fight at 140 was nixed because no one would sanction the fight due to Spadafora's criminal activity.

C'mon man stop talking shit you dont really know about or WANT TO!! If you ever read the post a long with the vid, you should know better.
The fight was at 35, NOT 40, and being criminal?? You mean like the 5 incidences of domestic abuse that Floyd had BEFORE Spadafora's unfortunate incident with one of the most psycho, twisted, skanks of all time?? Hmmmmmmmmm???
The fight did fall through because Spadafora lost his license in the summer of 2003, but that was 3 years after he whipped Floyd in the gym. They made an offer at PBf as soon as he fought at 35 against Augustus in 2000.
Look, if you really wanna keep banging this issue, go back to the thread and bring it up THERE. I didnt mention the name because all of this wasnt involved IN THE POINT I WAS MAKING!! Which was?? Many knew about Floyd. For someone to say "we didnt know who floyd was" in a porous and pathetic defense of the writer's article?? Its fucking absurd:good
BTW, Why are you attacking me when I'm STICKING UP FOR PBF in this case?? Jesus man, are you part pirannah??

Problem is when you have CHILDREN involved!!! A man who wants to BE A MAN FOR HIS SON, must still have the SKANK lingering, lurking, baiting, making false accusations, and seeking the opportune moment to POUNCE:-( Oh what a tangled web we weave when following our dicks:oops:

Jesus:wall
I mentioned the incident to prove a seperate point. YOU have again interjected it as an ISSUE. I suggest you either bring up the thread again until you resolve you're frustration with facts or stop making it an issue in every other thread. My point was made in this thread. It had no bearing on what was or is believed or accepted by you or other Floyd fans on that issue. The timeline of the incidence PROVED in this case, that INDEED, people knew who floyd was.
Yeah, Floyd just smacked them up and was able to buy his way out. Unfortunately for Spadafora, his ONE INCIDENT, pulled his own gun on him after wrecking his ride, while he was extremely intoxicated. Had he thrown the gun over the bridge and whupped her ass up and down the street, he'd have been much better off and it wouldnt have PREVENTED HIM FROM FIGHTING EITHER. Although, if it hadnt happened and he hadnt hit REHAB?? Floyd may have never MADE ANY OFFER:lol: Although, had he been right, he'd have spanked Dorin, collected two belts, and at that point? Floyd would have HAD TO FIGHT HIM, or just start quacking when he talks.
Thing is?? IT'S ALL SAD AND PATHETIC for PBf and Spat!! neither should have behaved in those manners and yes Spadafora's one incident was pretty reprehensible. Fortunately, she survived is is alive and well today. Hopefully both men have learned lessons from their mistakes and neither is ever again associated with such negative action.
