How will Shane Mosley be remembered if his career ended tomorrow?

And how will potential victories/losses against Mayweather and Pacquiao impact your view of him?

I was unsure of what to make of Mosley for a long time, as he seemed to fall short in most of his biggest fights; but at the same time, many of his biggest fights were held above his best weight, and perhaps past his peak. However, the big "comeback" win over Margo sealed his place as an ATG for me.

In the end, the only real blemishes on his resume IMO are the two losses to Forrest. Had Forrest gone on to accomplish more in his career (like Winky did) they probably wouldn't look nearly as bad.

I don't think losses to Mayweather and Pacquiao would hurt what legacy he has as I see it, as those two are ATGs as well, and I'm not sure I rate Mosley over them to begin with. Wins of either one, of course, would give his legacy a huge boost.

It would've been interesting to see him fight at 140, and perhaps fight Tszyu. I think at one time that was Mosley's ideal weight class.

That may well have been the weight best suited for him, which makes it kind of ironic he never fought there.

It will be interesting to see how his career unfolds.

I happen to think he stands a great chance to beat Pacquiao and a pretty good chance to beat Floyd. Should he actually get these fights and beat one, or both, it will be interesting to see how future historians rate him.

I think Sugar Shane will always be appreciated by any boxing fan/historian in years to come. I say this because the man really had a willingness to fight anyone, at any weight. And when he did he always tried to make a fight exciting, even when boxing safely would have been in his better interests. The respectful way he always conducts himself, along with a willingness to fight the best and fight in an entertaining way will always make Shane an appreciated fighter IMO.

I think his careers wins/losses as it stands are enough to take him to the HOF without any question. Add on a win over either Pacquaio or Mayweather and that may put Shane in the Top 50 fighters of all time (esp a win over both). But as i said even if he isnt remembered as one of the Top 50 or so, he will always be appreciated and respected.

Agreed.

In a day and age where boxers' careers are often dictated by 'business sense', Mosley has always dared to be great. He gave opportunities to Forrest and Wright who were both stuck on the outside looking in, and then went after immediate rematches in both cases.

I think his careers wins/losses as it stands are enough to take him to the HOF without any question.

No doubt about this.
