Kalambay-McCallum 1

I think I agree. Its between either that, or Benitez-Duran.

McGirt-Brown is 3rd.

Kalambay-McCallum I beats Benitez-Duran for me. Kalambay's performance that night is one of the greatest displays of boxing I have ever seen. Although Benitez was superb as well, I don't think Duran really performed on the night. McCallum on the other hand was more or less prime, and Kalambay produced a pretty stunning exhibition of skills. It is a work of art on celluloid IMO. There haven't been many to match it.

Kalambay put on one of the greatest displays of boxing against McCallum.

I think the rematch was also a great boxing exhibition by both men, this time more competitive.

Benitez put it all together against Duran but I think McCallum was the more "live" opponent at the time, despite Duran's proven greatness.

McGirt is underrated by many these days, most only know of him as a boxing trainer.

Funny, I actually would put Benitez as the clear 3rd, as I thought that was a much more competitive fight than the other two.

I'd give the #1 spot to McGirt, as he not only completely outboxed a very good, long reigning champion, but also punished him badly and even dumped him on the canvas (if I'm remembering correctly).

Kalambay was basically as bad a schooling as McGirt, but without the knockdown/punishment dealt by him.

Also, even though Duran was still considered very good, he was acknowledged to be past his peak and coming off his disgraceful quit-job vs. Leonard. I would say a win over him may have carried the least weight of these three as well.

On Paper (or boxrec) Benitez-Duran probably looks the best...but I agree with some of what has been said. I don't believe that Duran was at his best on this night, and looked more willing to mix it up after the fight than he was during it. But, I don't mean to diminish Benitez's performance as he put on a great display. For me I would go:

Kalambay VS McCallum I (Brilliant!!!)
McGirt Vs brown
Benitez vs Duran

With much more seperating Kalambay vs McCallum over the other 2, and very little seperating the other 2 fights.
