View Full Version : MMA wars.....
I'm not a MMA fan but want to give the sport a chance so are there any fights you'd recommend I watch that will get me interested in MMA/UFC?
Sort of like the MMA equivalents of Corrales-Castillo and MAB-Morales I.
Also, there's UFC on tonight. Are there any fighters or fights to watch out for?
Thanks :good

Tonight I would watch Dan Hardy cos he's British, the main event should be good, Cro Cop if he is back to his normal self.
Fights to watch hmm :-
Kazushi Sakuraba vs Carlos Newton (most exciting display of grappling I've ever seen) although maybe not a war.
Wanderlei Silva vs Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson I,II and III
Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Fedor vs Cro Cop
Just to name a few well known fights. I'll come back with some more later maybe.
I've just started getting into it as well and I'm looking forward to that Cain fella looks like a beast.
BTW was that kongo who he is fighting the bloke out of never back down?

Also watch Griffin Bonnar 1. It's the fight that really brought the sport main stream.I knew someone was going to say that  Honestly for fucks sake that clown Rogan influences every one of these UFC fan boys. How the fuck are you going to compare Corrales Castillo with a barnyard brawl with 2 TUF gimps who are nothing more than UFC poster boys because of TUF? Honestly its farcical. There is NO COMPARISON whatsoever. Iv seen WBU santioned bouts that were better than that uneducated crap from Bonnar and Griffin. They looked like 2 pub drunks having a brawl.

Elitist? WTF has that got to do with the price of fish? And what has PRIDE got to with anything? At least stick to the fricking topic!
Griffin Bonnar was a bullshit ass bar room joke. End of story end of thread.
Is Henderson Vs Wanderlei Silva worth watching ?

Is Henderson Vs Wanderlei Silva worth watching ?There second bout? Hell yeah. Wandy gets KO'ed cold again. And Hendo is the only PRIDE fighter ever to hold the middleweight and welterweight titles at the same time.

That whole post stinks of elitism. It's like you look down on the UFC, but more TUF, as it's beneath you and your view of MMA.

I used to read posts/threads on Sherdog(bad i know), but never bothered posting on there due 2 main types of people on there.
Elitist twats who would never see anything good in anything UFC ever done/did.
And UFC noobs who would never look at MMA other than UFC.
I enjoy lot of MMA, be it old Pride, Dream, old Cage Rage(though not a high standard), UFC. etc..
But i can't understand people like you, how just hate UFC no matter what.
Anyway, i've got to go out, so i'll reply to your reply later or tomorrow. :good

Great knockout the spinning back fist was a bute of a shot.Yeah it was when PRIDE came to the USA i think. One of there final shows. Hendo hit him with a spinning back fist then KO'ed him with a huge left hook. By that time Wandy's punch resistance was gone. I think the Mark Hunt fight hand something to do with it along with the terrifying beating he took from Cro Cop.

Anyway, i've got to go out, so i'll reply to your reply later or tomorrow. :goodAlright im a PRIDE fan but most of all im a fan of MMA. I dont like the UFC's format, i dont like "their" brand of MMA, i dont like "their" promotion, and i dont like the way they treat their fighters with their pathetic wages along with the cavalier attitude as though the fighters are dispensaries. Dana is more than happy to give any fighter the boot if he doesnt make his promotion money.
Fact of the matter is TUF champions are a bit of a joke. Just call a spade a spade instead of rankling over the point. Look what happened to Serra Griffin and Rashad. All TUF champs who got the push because of TUF. Its almost akin to what OVW does for the WWE. The fighter gets the push because he made his name on TUF nothing more. How can a guy like Griffin become the marketing face of his brand? Why? Because his popular and thats it. The TUF show is essentially a popularity contest off the back of reality TV nothing more or less. Guys like Griffin and Bonnar wouldnt have even been good enough to get a look in on a PRIDE show during its heyday. It makes a complete mockery of MMA when guys try to suggest otherwise as though Bonnar Griffin is/was the pinnacle of MMA technique. Iv seen grannies with better "bag" technique than that shambles of a bout.

Tonight I would watch Dan Hardy cos he's British, the main event should be good, Cro Cop if he is back to his normal self.
I watched this fight from round 2 on and found it entertaining. Hardy has faggot hair though .
Didn't watch the rest of the card as John Murray was fighting on ITV4.

I shall reply to your post mate, unbaisly as possible. :good
Alright im a PRIDE fan Well i knew that from a mile off. :good:lol:
I dont like the UFC's formatWhat do you mean format?
i dont like the way they treat their fighters with their pathetic wagesFighters make money if there good enough to make it past a certain level. That level may be high but, again, if the fighter is good enough he will make the money.
If UFC wasn't tight with their money they may of been another Bodogfight or EliteXC or Cage Rage or PrideFC(i know their curcumstance was a little different), etc., bankrupt.
And maybe the Fertittas would of got bored with spending money on a company in debt?
Dana is more than happy to give any fighter the boot if he doesnt make his promotion moneySurely this is common sense? If a fighter isn't making enough money for the company they leave, but that happens all over the world in business, especially in this financial climate.
If you was a boss of your own comany(and maybe you are) would keep an employee if he/she wasn't pulling their weight for your company?
Fact of the matter is TUF champions are a bit of a jokeI agree with you on this, most of the TUF champions are rubbish.
But they will get found out as they face better fighters.
If a TUF champion can't raise their game, they will end up on undercards or on Fight Night cards, till their no long required.
How can a guy like Griffin become the marketing face of his brand?Easy, he gives it his all! He has became very good allround MMA fighter under Couture.
Unlike Bonnar, Griffin has improved by miles since TUF 1. He lost a SD against Ortiz, beat Shogun(I know he wasn't fully fit, lets hope he's back to he's best against Machida), beat a prime Rampage over 5 rounds. But lost to Evans because of his sometimes dodge chin and balls-to-the-wall style, same against Jardine, it happens in MMA.
Plus he's the first fighter of UFC's own making to get to the top. :good:lol:
Guys like Griffin and Bonnar wouldnt have even been good enough to get a look in on a PRIDE show during its heyday.I think your right, they wouldn't of been good enough.
But the Griffin of now would be able to compete, at the very least, with them Pride glory days(Not Bonnar though.).
It makes a complete mockery of MMA when guys try to suggest otherwise as though Bonnar Griffin is/was the pinnacle of MMA technique. Iv seen grannies with better "bag" technique than that shambles of a bout.Ishy asked for a MMA fights similar to Castillo vs Corrales 1, which was a war. People gave him loads of fights, from loads of organzaitions.
Many of us said Griffin - Bonnar because it was a war for 3 rounds. Not pretty, but both fighter gave it everything they had for their dream job, professional fighter!
Not one of us said it was the "pinnacle of MMA technique" as you put it. You were the one to jump on it and started slagging it off. :deal
My last point, UFC came up with an idea that had been around for awhile, reality TV. They used it first with TUF and thats what changed there fortunes. Yeah, they had billionaire owners, but they weren't making money till that show.
Maybe if another organzaition had thought of it first the MMA landscape would be very different now? :think
Now this has taken me ages to write because i'm a slow typer and i wanted to take my time with what i wrote so i wouldn't sound like too much of a twat. It's now 1:30am-ish and getting tired, so also probably full of mistakes.:D
I hope i have made some good points for you to think about.
If i have missed anything it can wait, i can't be arsed to write anymore. But it did wasted sometime till the Cotto-Clottey. :good :rofl
