Watch this from around 2:14 - 2:23.

Ross throws a quadruple left hook (I don't think I've ever seen that before), then follows it up with a double left hook, then a double jab.

The only other fighers I've seen throw one-handed volleys that quickly and fluidly were Ray Robinson and Kid Gavilan. I don't think I've ever seen anyone throw eight left hands in quick succession like this.

Man, I just put up some footage of these two elsewhere.

They are very fast punches, but Sugar got more on them - they are a little bit arm, a coule of these punches.

I've never seen the fight but there was a report in Boxing News in the 80's of Sot Chitalada ending a fight with 8 consecutive left hooks. I only remember it after all this time because, as you say, its so unusual.

im pretty sure Gavilan had a huge one handed assualt on Chuck Davey at one point

But Chuck Davy is no Jimmy McLarin.

What ross show there is pretty impressive imo. Of couse in the 3rd fight, for the most part, Ross did box McLarin's ears off.

Yeah, with his right hand incredibly enough. He tripled up on his right hand a few times in that fight.

yeh i knew he did it with 1 hand a huge salvo.

he did it afew times but he had one assualt at the end of the round where he threw about 10 with his right.

But as aformentioned 'Chuck Davey aint no Jimmy McLarnin'

I don't know. It was aired nationally but then again so was Lou Nova vs Tony Galento (on theaters) and I haven't seen that either.

I believe you read these articles already:

Actually it wasn't, according to the article:

Starting with Willie Pep ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) vs. Chalky Wright in 1944—a bout carried only in Philadelphia ([Only registered and activated users can see links]), Schenectady ([Only registered and activated users can see links]), N.Y. ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) and 100 veterans' hospitals.

Might explain why it's so rare. Perhaps someone has it in their collection.

Is that the one where he is smashing his face in up against the ropes? I might be wrong on memory there.

Barney Ross habitually sneaks into my P4P top 10. He was a stand out in a deep era, trained by none other than Ray Arcel, never stopped. His execution was beautiful.

Many don't know it, but Jimmy McLarnin was known as the "Hebrew Scourge" because he was cutting a swathe through serious Jewish boxers including Ruby Goldstein (KO 2), Ray Miller (UD), Joe Glick (KO 2, UD), Sid Terris (KO 3), Al Singer (KO 3), Louis Kaplan (KO 8) and Benny Leonard in 6.... then Barney put an end to his 'anti-semetic' habits.

am i correct in thinking when Ross took the title from McLarnin the arena they fought in was nicknamed the 'Champions graveyard' as no champion had ever sucessfully defended his title there.

Is this correct?

What venue was it?

Who wa sthe first to break this sequence?

I've been around, mostly reading posts. Time constraints prevent my being able to be prolific out here.

I didnt give you Ross McLarin III, because well it was 33 mins long, and was not on the list.

Ross Petrolle and Canzi were 20 or 25 mins long.

Think I thown in the first bout in highlight which runs ten mins of McLarin.
