I think mic men are right Calderon is trying to impress that worries me a little Mayol looks dangerous and i hope Ivan boxes like normally because he could lose this boxing out of his normal style.
I'm not watching this, but its a matter of time before Calderon gets KTFO. He's past prime and he's looked shakey.

Your right he looks uneasy and doesn't look prepared to trade or take shots looks like he may lose his crown here and now.
Calderon not looking all that great. Mayol is an awkward fucker.
Mandanda
06-13-2009, 10:24 PM
Similar cut to Cazares cut not as bad though but could be enough to stop fight. Calderon can't blame it on everyone else all the time to he does come in reckless at times himself.

Calderon cut in another fight. Getting to the stage where it's probably going to happen pretty often. Bit worrying when he has ith appen after a long break like he's had.

To me Calderon doesn't want to go and has quit in my opinion. It's bad but not that bad.

This is the other side to the accidental butt issue that cost Kooner a loss on the UK card.

Draw!!!!
Calderon after tonight has lost any chance imo of getting a big fight or a chance on HBO.
58-56 Calderon
58-56 Mayol
57-57 Draw
DRAW!!!
To me "engineering" a stoppage, and then winning the fight legit due to the rounds you have accumulated is a lesser evil than somebody headbutting their opponent and being awarded a stoppage victory.
Two completely different levels of bullshit, the Brit rules are disgraceful.

I agree with you on that although i do feel Calderon is making a nasty habit of this. The rules will never be perfect but for me the Brit ones have to change imo.

I know its horses for courses but under the BBBof C rules Calderson would have wanted to try to carry on amd force the fight, with the 'international' rules he can just think "Fuck it, I'll take my chances on the cards",
With this and the Kooner fight we've seen both sides of the question tonight.

To play Devils Advocate a moment, what if the accidental butt is caused by the fighter who ends up recieving the cut and he then goes on to win on the cards? The other guy has lost through no fault of his own.
I have just helped myself to a Choc Ice from the freezer..

Of course, there is a flaw either way, it can never be perfect. But ultimately the doctor is there to do a job, it should be pretty obvious to him if its obscuring the fighter in such a way he can't continue. I don't think the onus should be on the boxer to dictate whether he carries on or stops depending on his situation - the ref and the doc in tandem should be strong and it will help eliminate that problem.
Flukeing a headbutt and getting stoppage is just wrong on every level, at least with the above a fighter has "earnt" the win to some extent. The line between accidental and purposeful can be very hazey, the rule sends out a poor message.

Thats probably what I'm saying, there was too much onus on the fighter to say "I can't see" or such. Of course that way the system can be engineered to a fighters advantage.
They should take the play away from the fighter and give the doctor/ref the power. A trained doctor can see if a cut is obscuring a fighter badly enough to warrant a stoppage. If its not in a bad place or there is only a small trickle, tough luck...thats the sport.

Yep, fair comment. If the doctor says the fighter is OK and the fighters says he can't see then its a TKO. The way it is now, if the fighter with the cut doesn't fancy it and thinks he's got a decent chance on the cards then he'll 'quit'.

Yeah Bunce does interact with some sites.I remember last time he asked for crazy match ups involving mad fighters and read them out

Also there is a thread from Audley Harrison (or someone claiming to be Audley) calling Haye out :rofl

nah, that was a great fight, it was made at a time when not many welters were facing eachother and this match up opened up a lot of scenarios, plus this fight sealed what heart DLH had i always questioned him before this but it was a classic between two very good technicians, the way oscar was gritting his teeth and shoe shining at the end was funny

He's 25/26 and they want to move him along quickly. He'd be better off fighting every other month rather than every month if it means the opposition is tougher. After 3 or 4 fights talented fighters should step up past the 4 rounds anyway.

From what I remember it was two very good fighters involved in a very mediocre fight; the action was shit/non-existent until the two KD's, and even after that it was no classic. Tentative as hell going through eight rounds.
In my book it is no WW classic; in the modern era Margarito's fights with Williams, Mosely and Cotto were better (bricks or no bricks).

It was after clash of heads. I felt Mayol did enough but judges didn't.
Wasn't a great fight. Calderon looked rather shaky at times and boxed cautiously and Mayol the taller man was coming in with head and caught him. Myself and a few others felt he could of went on but Calderon didn't and made a meal of it and got his way and fight went to scorecards.

The positive for Cotto is...if he comes through this he erases all doubts about his heart. Ultimate adversity.
Even if he doesn't come through he's shown a lot of heart.
This is a complete reversal of fortunes. I'd rather have the cut than the knee...Clottey has looked fucked since
