Everybody knows you dont try to stand and trade with a boxer. You take him down to the ground like kimbo did and kimbo is a street fighter but he still didn't want to stand with mercer.
Sylvia is stupid for trying to strike with a boxer.

I mean cmon half of his champions the last few years were part time plumbers who got on TUF (Griffin, Rashad).

Tim Sylvia is an awkward looking fighter, who everyone seems to hate persoanlly for some reason, but he is by no means a bum.
He's a two-time UFC Champion.
He has two wins over Arlovski, who was seen as an unstoppable juggernaut at the time. He beat Rico when he was in shape and one of the best heavies in the world, he battered Cabbage when he was seen as the next thing in the UFC heavyweight division. He also shared the ring/cage with the best three heavies ever, ableit in losing fashion.
Admittedly the best heavyweights were all in Pride, but remember when Sylvia and Cabbage WERE UFC's heavyweight division? :lol:
Only a complete MMA neophyte would favorably compare an absolute scrub like Cheik Kongo to him. If Sylvia is a bum, everyone but about 5 fighters are.
I wouldn't call sylvia a bum, but his wins over AA are what it's based on, why on earth he thinks his standup is so great I have no idea, he really believes he has pro boxing potential or it might be his manager putting him up to this. He couldn't out strike Randy couture over 5 rounds but thinks he can box???

I also thought Sylvia made MMA kind of a joke, for the longest time nobody could beat him now anybody seems to be able to make an easy nights work out of him. He is a former UFC champ and its kind of sad to see him failing like this.

People are really down on Sylvia but he barely had a chance to show what his game plan was. Mercer saw a big target stand there and he unleashed the bomb.

Kimbo was all over Mercer on the ground and on their feet. Mercer couldn't handle Kimbo when Kimbo was swarming on him either. The diffrence was that Kimbo FOUGHT Mercer, while Sylvia thought that he could box with him.

People can talk shit about Sylvia all they want, but he won fights and still could in the UFC. If they do another TUF and put him on there it'll be pointless because a former 2-time champ will almost certainly win and why would anyone watch that? Sylvia shouldn't have taken a pointless gimmick fight, but now he has to win a bunch of fights in lesser shows and move on up IF that's what he really wants to do. He didn't seem to want to hang around the UFC last time he was there...

I agree....this is the fight game and at the HW division anyone can be slept. Not that Mercer got lucky...he just used what he was good at and exposed Sliva's striking flaws.

Financially, Tim made the best choice of his career leaving the UFC.
He got paid more for Fedor than he'd ever get in the UFC, and the UFC were going to cut his salary anyway.
The Mercer fight ruined his career though.

Tim has been exposed and has lost 4 of his 5 fights, Like liddell,Hughes,and pulver Tim hasn't evolved and thinks his standup is world class.
His best win was over AA but after that he was champ at the time because there really wasn't anyone else at HW in the UFC. All the good HW's were in Pride so Dana got 43 yr Couture to come out of retirement and kick his ass.
Tim did embarrass the sport and now if you read what some boxing only fans say that it's"proof' that boxing is the superior sport.

No Sylvia threw a leg kick when they apparently agreed not too and Mercer knocked him the fuck out. Sylvia is so flat footed that anyone with a decent shot would sit him down. He didn't even get a chance to try to box with him.
Anyone in there right mind should not try to stand with a former pro boxer that has a really good resume.
Look at it this way though Tim Sylvia can only go up from here:lol:
