View Full Version : Did Castillo Take a Dive?
Didnt see the fight, no way to have an opinion, but hearing it here seemed a bit strange.

Very well placed body shot, Hatton threw with power.

It was just a perfect body shot, knocked the wind out of him.
Damm is Castillo shot, or was it just a perfectly placed body shot?
Please someone give me some description. I cant believe JLC goes down like this.. :think
That was just a very well placed body shot, Castillo in this fight looked slow to the punch. Hatton was smothering him on the inside and beating him on the outside. NOT A DIVE

hatton did his thing but like manny steward said.if u cant see that he was a shot fighter your not being reasonable at all...even tho even in castillos prime i think the fight might be harder then those would think...ricky kept smothering him
THIS WAS NOT A DIVE, Hatton hit him with a great body shot, watch the replays in different angles.

He's past his prime, that's what happen. I saw that in his last fight, that's why I picked Hatton, but I was cheering for Castillo.

Cool. I feel bad insinuating this after the fact, but I couldnt see the fight and the chat room was stunned, like it was a possibility.

That's the whole point about body shots, and why it's so intensely frustrating that it's almost a lost art...one good solid body shot at the right time in the right place, and it's over.

No dive. JLC was poor but great body shot by Hatton who for once almost lived up to his 'hitman' nickname. :p

Well i seen COtto throw a similar body punches jus unda the elbow on a few fighters. And bodyshot pain dnt go! Ask Gatti when he first fought Ward! Hatton was known for his bodywork and u saw it!
Howeva, i will admit one thing and il get jumped at for it! Castillo is obviously not gna be the same fighter he was few years back. This is the 140 zone NOT the 135 where he dominated and had power. Only Castillo knws whther he was done b4 that ngoudjo fight!
Believe me i was shocked when castillo went down! Maybe we will see later news as it comes, what JLC has to say.

castillo took a dive....the hatton mayweather fight is still on track. You guys have no idea how much money HBO is going to make off a hatton vs floyd fight. Now ross greenburg, and hatton's team can try and negotiate with floyd for a mega fight.
I luv it:lol:

Jeez, does every friggin' fight have to be a "robbery" or a "dive." :patsch C'mon. Hatton is on the way up, Castillo was on the way down. They crossed paths and the predictable happened - Castillo lost.

:good Castillo is on the downside and probably a shot fighter. Hatton hit him with a perfect left hook to the body and as a result, he won by KO. This wasn't the prime-Castillo by any means, but Hatton looked good and did what he had to do to win.

It was an honest question bc I wasnt able to see the fight, not trying to take credit from either fighter.

I dont want to say he took a dive, but it does look like he could have gotten up. But he is definitely done as a elite fighter(JLC), i didnt want to admit it after the ngoudjo fight, i thought he was just rusty. But in this fight he did look shopworn, it didnt look like the usual tough as nails castillo.
Go Go Mexicans making excuses. He got hit by one fo the best body shots Ive ever seen by one of the best body punchers Ive ever seen.

He took a dive clearly, it was obvious that they were not going to take points for holding, yet they were taking points for hitting on the belt line, Castillo figured why go through more shit if the Ref is not going to be un biased? and I agree especially when you consider he may lose his entire purse.

come down brits, i could hardly believe this outcome so early in the fight if I hadnt seen it myself. It was kind of strange to see JLC dropped for the first time in his career. I think JLC is definitely done, whether he needs the money or not I dont want to see him fighting any other elite fighters. Its obvious the man has been too through many wars. I dont think he took a dive, but maybe he just didnt want to get up. I gave Hatton credit before the fight, he is a great fighter.

Two fight ago, he beat up on a fighter that was more shot than him (Corrales)! In Corrales's last fight, he took a one sided beating at the hands of Clottey. I could care less who beat him (JLC), whether it was Hatton or Holt. I give Hatton respect all the time. But it was evident that Castillo just didnt have it tonight, his body gave out on him. He has been in one too many wars. ANybody who has seen 4 or 5 Castillo fights know, that it should have taken a lot more than that shot to drop and take out Castillo.

Fuck how stupid are you. Think about what you just wrote.. what the fuck does winning the fight have to do with getting his purse? How would him winning change the legal ramifacations of the lawsuit pending against him.
They were trying to hold the purse in escrow against a future judgement against Castillo.. winning or losing had nothing to do with it.
It didn't happen anyhow. Castillo had no monetary interest in winning or losing this fight, especially since he didn't seem all that interested in fighting in this one, I'm sure future fights weren't on his mind as well.
Clearly Cool

No way it was a dive, you could see and hear the power in the shot, and it was in the right spot. Ive heard a good body punch can be extremely hard to get up from as the pain spreads all around the body.
Still think Bhops was a bit too weak against Hoya.

I agree with this to an extent--I think after the point deduction and all the holding Huggy Bear Hatton was doing made Castillo quit. I think Ricky is a sham and he must train under Ruiz--This is only the 3rd or 4th Hatton fight I have watched and he gets away with more holding than ANYONE I have ever seen at a championship level.
What I don't get is WHY??? Hatton seems to have all the tools that all the holding should not be needed. He has quick hands, good footwork, good power and he can throw combos like a demon--so what's with the RUIZ act???

By no means was this a dive. It was a perfectly placed body shot, the kind we've been seeing a lot of lately.
At the same time, Castillo is shot, and that has been evident since his last fight. This fight is exactly what I predicted, but by no means was there any foul play.

Yes, saying it was a dive is fucking pathetic.
It is possible that he could have "gotten to his feet" physically, but it was evident that his legs were gone. Maybe he couldn't even have mustered the energy to get to his feet, I don't know. I think he was just hit with a great shot, and isn't young enough anymore to take that kind of a blow.
Edit: Also, I don't know about any of you, but I prefer to see him get stopped like this, rather than getting up and being battered heavily some more just for show. He's done what he's done in his career, given us some great fights, and though he lost, he still came to fight.

If you're serious then the level of your posts has sunk to a new low. Hatton was wrestling on the inside while still throwing punches. That's perfectly legal in most instances.................Castillo also initiated some of the clinches although most were Hatton.

06-24-2007, 01:36 AM
It was nothing different to what Hoya did on the 5th, tying up and throwing light hooks due to a lack of leverage when a clinch ensued, Castillo was holding while Hatton wanted to keep moving and get some good hip movement, i think Bazooka is just sad that a guy he admires was retired today but i'm sure he will get over it as opposed to continuing the little dark streak he seems to be exhibiting.

He Was Going To Get Up. He Just Never Had The Wind. He Was In Too Much Pain. A Count Of 40 Would Not Of Saved Him
Has anyone actually ever been on the receiving end of a perfectly placed body shot? By the reaction of some here, apparently not. It is probably the most painful of shots to be hit by, and if done to the standard that Hatton punch, you don't get up.
Yes Castillo is getting old, and may well now be finished due to that loss, but it is plain sad to say he took a dive. People seem more intent on ripping into Hatton for holding (fuck me, I didn't realise boxing had become non-contact), than giving him credit for a superb punch and a superb victory.

I won't say it would have been physically impossible for him to get up. It looked like it to me, but I'm not in his body. He was definitely hurting bad, and if he did get to his feet he would have just gotten pummelled and finished worse. If he did make and attempt and then said "F' this", I still wouldn't call it a "dive".
Taking a dive is throwing a fight, which obviously didn't happen. He was ruined by that shot. Whether he was unable to get up due to paralyzing pain, or was in enough pain (or psychologically broken) to just take the count is inconsequential. It's a legit win, either way.
Stupid question, really.

Anyone saying it was a dive should fuck off and watch WWE. It was a bang on the money liver shot that simply takes the air out of you. Bob Arum said it was one of the best body shots he has ever seen for perfect placement etc.
Every ex pro has said it was a perfect shot and yet here on ESB we have the usual muppets saying it was a dive or he could easily have got up.
You really are watching the wrong sport.
