boom boom had the fire power to keep it hot and heavy .. but chavez ultimately takes him apart
Mancini didn't have the firepower that Rosario brought to the ring and Chavez put an epic beating on him. Ray is stopped in 8.

The hearts of these two fighters are about equal size, but the rest of the categories are rather lopsided. This is a mismatch..

Chavez wins hands down. Mancini was a true fighter, but Chavez had a huge advantage in the skills department.
In any case, I wonder how to consider a Mancini in "his prime".
It could be argued that after the Koo Kim fight and tragedy, Boom Boom was never the same. Mancini was 21 then, so he was still maturing and growing as a boxer, so it could be argued that his process was cut short and, therefore, he never develop his true potential and reached "his prime".
But in any case, it is clear to me that he was way less skilled that Chavez, and, certainly, kudos to Mancini for making his best to overcome his tragedy, showing the heart of a true champion. :good

In a 12 round fight Mancini survives, but loses every round and gets dropped late on in a competitive but one-sided fight. If that makes sense???

Mismatch. It would be a brutal beatdown.

The problem with Mancini is that he took too many punches and it was only his youth and intensity that allowed him to survive as long as he did against straight up skilled boxers like Arguello and Bramble. Chavez's style is something very different. Mancini was destined to have a brief stay among the elite. He put up a whale of a fight against Bramble that second time around, though. Damn was that exciting on an emotional level. Buckets of guts, as they say.

A brutal, one sided beating that ends in the 5th or 6th with Boom Boom on his knees in a corner.

I think this is exciting only because of the styles, not because we dont know who would win.

Key factor, Chavez' superior defense. Picking off Mancini's blows & countering effectivly. Chavez' slashing fists end this in a bloody TKO in seven.

Mancini puts up a brave fight and has his moments but chavez eventually stops him, probably late.
