I don't usually pick the role of the "annoying troll", but this crap from the British audience was annoying. The band, the singing, the people. Pathetic. I love the U.K., I love these people, but as boxing fans they annoy the shit out of me. Stop causing distractions at boxing matches. Please.

Well being a Brit I can only say...................I agree, to an extent.

Bands, drums, trumpets, hooters! Just shut the fuck up and watch the fight!

The singing did't really bother me neither does the general support.

06-23-2007, 11:03 PM
The drums screwed with the audio, it sounded like a college football game. I could barely tell if the crowd was cheering or booing, kind of gave a odd feeling to the fight and was hard to get into it.

has anyone seen a chavez or duran fight well the fans were almost screaming for them loads of chanting and singing...the point is that it's people who are proud maybe not patriotic but they are proud for the man to fight and represent for all of them...if thats somthing that wouldnt make you cheer for them nothing would.

LOL, taking tips on how to support from the yanks.

These are people who wear foam hands and jab the big finger in the air as a form of support, or put face paint on their bellies. People who wear giant nacho hats and have nuts, burgers, hot dogs, drinks and ice creams brought to them at sports games. People who pay an entrance fee and then watch the big screens.

You cannot deny having a massive singing element provides Hatton/Cotto etc. with a massive adrenaline boost, and completely intimidates their opponents.

However, the singing is what all football/boxing fans, America excepted do.

Breaking out in song (especially the crappy songs the British fans were singing) is just not appropriate for a boxing match. Yes, it works for Soccer. It meshes well with the pace of the game (which is generally one that puts me to sleep) and the general atmosphere of this kind of event. Boxing is a unique spectacle. Having a band in the audience disturbs the ebb and flow of the match. It clashes horribly with the Las Vegas fight culture. I could go on and on. Basically it just sucks :)

In any case, good win for Hatton.

how does it disturb the flow of the match??all forms of combat stem from some form of rhythm, look at thai boxing for example the music determines the tempo of the fight.if you look back at the old gladitorial fights they were urged on by loud drums in the arenas which is a possible link to the way we do it in soccer arenas etc today.so to use that as an excuse is just crap.

It's a UK historical thing, used to support and push your man/team across the line. Part of the entertainment is usually having a rival set of fans, directing derogatory/abusive chants back at you. Cleary in boxing it doesn't quite work as well. The atmosphere was like a witches cauldron. As usual us Brits travelled well and made it a great P.A.R.T.Y atmosphere.

The band are pretty horrific though I must admit, I admire the air miles they clock up to support the English footy team around the world....but seriously guys .. you need some new tunes, they only seem to have one track in their set list!

If I wanted to hear a bunch of fags sing and chant in unison I'd turn on a Village People concert. This is not what I want when I'm attempting to watch a pugilistic affair. If you fags need to be heard so much there are a bunch of psychiatrists that would be happy to listen to you for less than half the cost of the plane ticket it took to export your lunacy to Vegas. Hey we already have Tennis and Golf. Traditionally upper class sports. Getting too much adrenaline in your blood in Tennis and Golf, will often be damaging for you game so ... quiete please!
Soccer and boxing are traditionally lower class sports and some more adrenaline can change the way its going.

Even some people wish to compare boxing and soccer to higher artforms like ballet or strategy like chess. The bottom line is go go through punches and land your own, and in this effort it is nice to feel a lot of support - so keeps making noice and singing like hell. Make the atmosphere it is good for boxing and it will get a wider audience that way.

STop painting AMERICANS with one brush.

If you ever attended a Spadafora fight in PITTSBURGH, you heard the resounding chanting of SPADDY, SPADDY, SPAADY!!. There's been other ameraican fans in various locations that have chanted, cheered and sang at boxing and in the NFL , Here we GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!! Back in the 70's, etc,

Yes, international and european fans are louder and its customary for them to be in unison, but that doesnt mean Americans are any less as fans. Who had a problem with the ATMOSPHERE at SRL vs Hearns, Hearns vs Hagler,Corrales vs Castillo, etc, etc, etc,. American fans can have live crowds and it makes THEM NO LESS A FAN if they dont cheer or sing in unison:nono

I don't usually pick the role of the "annoying troll", but this crap from the British audience was annoying. The band, the singing, the people. Pathetic. I love the U.K., I love these people, but as boxing fans they annoy the shit out of me. Stop causing distractions at boxing matches. Please.

its not just there boxing fans, the 'barmy army' at the cricket sing for a five day test match that they are losing (cricket fans will know what im talking about) there rugby fans and soccer fans are the same. but they are pretty entertaining.

Most(not all) American posters on here would shit themselves at a show in Bethnal Green.

By the way, that reminds me. When Johnny Tapia fought in Bethnal Green he received a f****** MASSIVE welcome!! The whole place was shaking and the noise was unbelievable

To any one saying americans don't cheer, chant, and/or get loud that is bullshit. Maybe you haven't seen Cotto/Judah- an absolutely rockin atmosphere which included (as many fight do ------- insert name) Cotto,Cotto, Cotto, or Judah, Judah, Judah but you will not find any friggin marching band blowin horns. Chant, yell, scream, all you want and i assure it will be admired by all. But leave instruments, the same as we do, for football games. Congratulations to Hatton and his fans for a great win.

I can appreciate their excitement for the sport.Although that Hatton wonderland song is incredibly annoying!I just wish they came up with something better.
