Tua's next fight against Cerrone Fox, Boxrec says Fox lost 5 of his last 6 starts? Is this a credible fight for Tua as a possible warmup for Wlad? Or is there another more formidable Cerrone Fox with the same name..?

I give the Tua of 10 years ago a decent chance at beating Wlad.
I give today's Tua a very slim chance.

The man Tua's fighting is 8-5 with 1 no contest. He lost 5 of his last 6 although 5 of his last 6 opponents had good records but he was ko'd by one with a 1-3 record.

So this fight? What good is it for Tua AND his fans? Why does Tua need to fight cannon fodder? Hell at this stage he could be fighting somebody of interest like Shane Cameron, or at least someone we've heard of in the current contender list.

Tua is biding his time for a title shot. I dont think he needs to teir his competition up at this point. He just needs to keep busy and get his weight down so he can throw punches for 12 rounds. If he can do that, he has a shot against any of the current champs including Wlad.

Its good for him and his fans because he needs to stay active in order to keep in shape. Hell, he's taking this fight with less than a MONTH to train for his opponent. You can't expect him to be taking on top teir opponents on less than a months notice..

Relax people, this is simply a keep busy fight, and 3 weeks after his last fight. We should be happy he got straighty back into the gym after Montana. Mesi pulled out of this Sep. 7th show and Tua filled in for him with 3 weeks notice its hard enough finding Tua an opponent with months up your sleeve let alone 3 weeks. All |i care about in this fight is seenig Dave blow this guy out in 1 or 2 rounds and come in weighing 3/4 possibly even 5lbs less than he did for Montana if he can do that then job well done. Fox isnt his last fight before possibly Wlad. He'll find again this year possibly twice!
What do you think of David Tua VS Cliff Couser as his next fight end of Oct. start of Nov.??

Sorry mate, just don't see how stepping in a ring to blow a sacrificial lamb out in one round is gunna help David's weight loss, his ringsmarts, or his fanbases exuberance. Just not credible.

...hey it worked for Shannon Briggs. He got his shot beating nothing but no-hopers and over-the-hill shot names. Why shouldn't Tua just follow the same path...
Of course, you I think that's a bullshit path, but I can't blame him, because just like Briggs, Tua knows he's no-fucking good anymore, and hopes to cash in on a lucky punch and get one "good" payday.

The only plus I can see is that it keeps him in the gym between fights.
Not a bad thing when talking about Tua.....
I agree about the fans and the ringsmarts part tho.
Tua has always seemed a big confidence fighter, so maybe it won't do any harm for him to get some faith back in his power?

He did look more like a fighting man should look in taking out way past it non contender Montana, than he's looked in his last few starts. But who can judge by that what his stamina level would be? He would need stamina at best with Wlad while waiting for his lucky punch.... for sure.

If you remember when he fought Bryd he seemed to kinda give up in a way, like he knew he had no chance to catch him. I remember Bryd playing with him that whole fight, especially when he spun him around making Tua look pretty dumb.

He had to take time out because he got royally, and totally, fucked over by his management team of Kevin Barry and Martin Pugh.
there was quite a lot of legal action involved - I'm not sure what, or if, there has been resolution yet.

It's just something I've never understood. A solid heavy with a good chin who can bang should be money no matter what. I figured he had health problems or something.

I think Cerrone Fox was one of Povetkin's first wins.
Yeah, Povetkin stopped him in the fourth round after he didn't respond to a bunch of punches and was wobbling all over the ring. Cerrone Fox is basically a blown up cruiserweight who keeps blowing up every fight to the point where he now weighs 30 pounds more than he did for the Povetkin match. He does a horrible HW impression of Naz / Roy Jones when he fights and has zero technical skill. I don't think his chin is glass but it definitely isn't very good. I would be very surprised if he lasts 2 rounds with Tua because his style is horrible for this matchup. He is aggressive, always falls out of position when he punches, and has almost no defense. Anything except Tua TKO1 or TKO2 would be an amazing accomplishment for him.
I'm hoping this is being taped somewhere because the guy makes funny faces when he fights and jokes around a lot. It would be great to see him get KTFO after playing around with Tua.

And Tua finishes it with a couple of punches, is this meant to be improving Tua for the big game? Won't do a fucking thing for him when he gets in with Wlad. He won't see out of his eyes after 5 rounds and will be taking wilder shots than he did with Lennox. :bart

Shamrock,
The main point here is Tua is fighting again 3 weeks after his last fight which means he's back in the gym training!! This fight isnt designed to help him improve his ringsmarts etc it was an opportunity given to Team Tua after his KO1 win over Montana and Meis pulling out so why not take another easy win and an opportunity to get back into some serious training whilst looking a little further down the track to a more serious fight in October would you rather him not fight at all between now and a possible October fight or Fight Cerrone Fox and keep him in the gym and focused!
you never answered my question

Shamrock, why are you starting some shit about my man, Tua? You know that the man is just keeping busy until he gets his chance. What do ya want him to do, go to KFC or sit at home eating corned beef like he used to do? Or perhaps say he needs to take care of other matters like he did from February-August of this year? At least the man is staying in the ring rather than in the kitchen. He's training hard, fighting monthly, and is looking to fight a top 20 guy later this year. He's even down around 235 now.
I think the reason that you are picking on him is one of 2 things: He didn't visit your gym like he said he would. That is unpardonable, and he should be spanked for it. The other is that he's wanting to fight your boy Klit. Hey, give him huge stones for going up against another 6'6" giant after his fiasco with Lewis.
You know he's not ready to take on the elite yet. Nearly there, but damn, us Tua diehards have waited all this time to get this far. You still believed in Klit when he got knocked on his ass repeatedly by Sanders, Brewster, and Peter. Let us diehards continue to have hope in our boy Tua.

Right, so we get an accomplished Amateur Worlds title fighter to fight a novice, just to keep in shape and winning until his next international appointment? True, thats right, even the amateurs wouldn't allow it! Forget it! I'm not interested in Tua anymore, and not because he didn't visit my club or he is talking a title shot already, but because he's just plain bloody uninspiring! I guess they figure it would be a payday and a way to train for a fight. I guess his people don't want to take a risk of losing (okay maybe they're taking a .001 chance of losing) when they may have a title fight in the bag.
I wish they would put him in with good B fighters like Eddie Chambers, Ty Fields, Raqy Autin, Mike Mollo, Brian Minto or even Joe Mesi. Heck for that matter Hassim Raahman is fighting Dicky Ryan. That would even big a step up from the fighter Tua is fighting.
Tua has had enough tune-ups already, this is a joke even though I appreciate the activity.

Tua IS very inspiring, judging by his improvement in the Fox fight. But can he do it against fair competition? I think I know one of your concerns. Tua is being a bully and facing mis-matched opponents. You seem to have a moral fibre that fights should be fair. I agree fights should be competitive, if only for the fighters safety. The fight was a sellout, which couldn't have made the fans happy with two one sided ko's in 1.5 rounds.

He's doing exactly what shitty Rahman and shitty Briggs did, so you can't fault the guy. He's losing weight and keeping busy. Nothing wrong with that. Put him in there with Maskaev, Peter, or Chagaev and expect him to knock them all out, except Wlad will give him a hard time.

Here's some guys I think should fight. They're more high-profile:
Calvin Brock
Serguei Lyakhovich
Shannon Briggs
James Toney (if possible)
Oliver McCall
I'd rather see him fight some NAMES, if nothing else. His fan base will dwindle and the money will stop rolling in if he insists on fighting bums.

Those would all be great matchups but to fight those that would mean risking a loss for Tua and I think his management is looking for the 'Briggs easy way to a title shot': fight as many bums as possible until a titleholder takes notice and gives you a shot at him.
That seems to be what they're aiming for.
You're probably right. Another poster on another thread raised the valid point along the lines of "Tua going from bums to Wlad Klitschko is going to be a big wake up call." Hopefully, Tua has what it takes to step up. And its not as if he doesn't have wins against former champs, but I don't think anyone holds John Ruiz in the same regard as Klitschko.

Shamrock, I'll give you a call before I come. I'll also be in town in Nov-Dec.
Tua looked great at 234. Said he did it by eating clean, not by dieting. Says he wants to be around for 3-4 years. Is looking better defensively and throwing combos. As I said, the key is whether he can do it against top competition. Fenkel said he needed to do it against top competition before Klit would face him. Look for a small step up Oct. 18, then a top 10 guy Dec. 1st. If all goes well, Klit or a belt holder in Feb.
Tua is active in the ring, his weight his down, his skills are up, his attitude is good. Now the question is whether he can put it together against top competition.
