Anyone picking Chagaev to win?
GazOC
06-20-2009, 04:42 PM
Nope, he needs to close the distance but Wlad will have that jab in his face all night.
SouthpawSlayer
06-20-2009, 04:44 PM
ustinov looked ok
Nope, but I back him to last the distance barring a cut. Which is actually a high probability considering how much Chagaev is cut.
Anybodys place got English commentary?

fuck sky, how i wish this was on setanta at least they would show the whole card live with ESB regulars in the studio and the brilliant commentary of woodhall, oh and the dilapidated studio and slightly shabby presentation was all part of the charm.
Think Ustinov bored his way to a decision. He looks unco-ordinated.
its on at 10 isn't it.
If you have already seen don't post the undercard fight please
If anyones 'mate' is showing it then post his address on the ESB boxpicks page :good

boring 1st
About time someone used some head movement against Wald
The size difference doesn't seem all that in the first round. Very cautious, Wlad landed a decent right hand.
Not the worst start from Chag. Klitschko won it on the jab, but he looked uncofortable when Chagaev got inside.
At least he's not doing an Ibragimov...

Klitschko's fairly dominant now. Chag has the same problem as all opponents, can't get past the jab and he's walking the wrong way, into Wlad's right hand instead of away from it.

Until Klit meets a mobile heavy weight he'll continue to plod to victory in every fight.
Chagaev has to go for broke soon and just launch at Klit to see if he can land a big punch.
If Haye had fought tonight, I think he could have caused problems. Klit is mechanical and has the look of a scared man in every fight.
Those Germans are sooooo quiet.

First live opponent Wlad has faced in over two years. Showed he was up to it.
Yep. Wlad Klitschko is the #1 heavyweight, there has been no doubt about that for a while. He's got the best resume, he's been in great form, you can't really argue with that.
Not the most exciting but it wasn't terrible either because you have to apprecite what he did tonight.
It's a shame there is only his brother that would make for a true challenge, everybody else is a significant underdog.
Chagaev looks properly pissed off
John18
06-20-2009, 05:52 PM
Was a better performance from Wlad than usual, a bit more pace and he opened up a bit earlier.
There was still some problems though:-
1. He does not do anything other than 1- 2 (maybe a cheeky 1-1-2).
2. He has never heard of a body punch.
3. He shits bricks if his opponent looks like throwing a punch.
When he had him trapped at the end of the final round he would have taken him out if he had put a few punches together. He's obviously very very good at what he does but is still so infuriating for the seemingly basic offensive things he neglects to do.

The key to getting at Wlad is by going for broke and basically charging past the jab. he will sh*t himself and backpedal like mad. He won't try and turn him and hit him or throw an uppercut as Haye closes the distance.
If Wlad lost the fear Haye would have no chance as everything else would be too stacked in his favour. But Wlad won't let his hands go if the other guy is letting his go.

Bang on the money, its not like these guys he's fighting are stupid or not trying to win!!
They're just not good enough.
There's no hurry up to what they're doing, it's all in done in slow motion, no conviction.
They know what they have to do, but are not capable of it.
A midget southpaw who wants to counter punch is never gonna effectively pressure a giant with a world class jab.
You guys are overly optimistic about a guy thats never beaten a decent heavyweight and had a dodgy chin at cruiserweight. Those two factors alone tell you that you should heavily favour Klitschko, and after his performance tonight...well...
I'd like to see Haye win, but he's a big underdog.
He fuckin did say that, I heard the cunt. He put on a big tense face and grit his teeth then he said "Haye needs to be VERY disciplined about Klit.."
Just put a mental image of Nelson saying that well described

I think Haye's jab would cause Wlad problems, and have him off kilter enough to give Haye the chance to follow up with the right.
The jab is the key for Haye, he can't simply wind up the right hand.

I have to agree with this, he is definitely the clear underdog....

On that perfomance I'll get my cock out on the steps of the Liverbird building if Haye beats Wlad.

This is very easy to say but believe me i think it will be very hard to push past Wald's jab. Even when he does get past it Wald ties fighters up. He is very smart he won't let a fighter stand in there range in front of him while he is not comfortable. Soon as a fighter charges past his jab Wald will tie him up and wait for the ref to break them apart and let wald get back into his range. I can see a few fighters doing this a few times before they realise its a lost cause.

chagaev was bobbing and weaving sideways..but in doing so was a sitting duck for wlads left hand.He never tried to use it as a tool to get his shots off on the inside or to rush him...when he did rush him at the end of round 5 i think it was wlad shat himself!!
but heck atleast the guys got the baws to take a beating...im happy to watch and slate.

I think with Hayes speed it would be possible to go round the outside of Wlads jab and throw a bomb.
Seemed weird that Chagaev was going the opposite way. :huh

I'm surprised how down everyone is on Haye's chances versus Wlad.
Look at Wlad tonight. Even when he landed on Chagaev he didn't follow up and get him out of there, he carried on behind the jab, being cautious. So Haye should have enough time to get his feet under the table and compose himself. He certainly won't have to worry about gassing and getting arm weary.
If he can just take a couple of Wlad's shots, I think he'll do him.

I agree, its not as simple as rushing the jab. For a big bloke Wlad has very good movement, when the movement doesn't work he ties the opponent up. After trying that for a few rounds and getting 1-2'd for their troubles fighters tend to back off and Wlad just dominates with the jab.

The thing with walds jab is he doesn't throw it the full way out he always has it close by incase this happens. Well thats what i think he holds it midway anyway .
I can see what you mean though Haye has very good speed and might catch him off guard.

The thing is, what else do you do?
Stand and try head movement = jab in face all night.
Hold hands up high = jab in face all night
Try to get your jab going = jab in face all night
The reason I advocate "rushing" him is the way he shites himself. Against a more composed fighter (for example LL) it would be suicide, but with Wlad so scared he actually kicked his leg out, it might be a good tactic.

"Damned if you do, damned if you don't"....movement (angles) and speed are the way to do it IMHO but I'm not sure Haye can take getting clipped on the way in buy even a half-blooded right hand.

Fair play most things against wald usually result in a jab in the face
Rushing Wald seems to be very shaky under pressure but those jabs must carry some power because most fighters look unwilling to take them after a round or two.
I think Haye's unorthodox ducking and weaving will be a problem the thing is he doesn't move forward while doing it. I hope Booth and Haye have a good game plan.
Of course you gotta rush him. That's the only hope. Thing is, that wasn't Chagaev's game. He's a cautious counterpuncher, but he found his world fell apart tonight because you can't counterpunch a guy half a foot taller with arms like treetrunks. He couldn't adapt, truthfully.
If you can put some kind of educated pressure on Wlad, and slip the jab, you are in business because he doesn't counterpunch, he only leans back or holds on. If you keep punching and are prepared to miss you can have some success.
It's tough though, because "slipping the jab" is not easy unless you are prime Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson is the definitive guy with the perfect style to light up Klitschko. Others could do it, Lennox Lewis, Larry Holmes and such but Tyson would do it quick.
The next time i hear someone slate Lee over Manny stewards retarded quote about future hall of famer I'm going go mental. Every time i see him fight that gets thrown in his face.

Lee was a bit sloppy tonight, but he finished well. He needs to get some more fights in Ireland in front of a good atmosphere, don't you think?
Lee's been a bit sloppy or his past 3 or 4 fights. At some point you have to come to the conclusion he isn't as talented as originally thought.
He should drop down a weight too, he ain't no middle. He's got no strength there.

Lee has lost his way in the last couple of fights, the best I have seen him was against Willie Gibbs, he boxed very well that night, avoided Gibbs bombs and then blasted him in the final round. Tonight he told his man for granted, everyone I spoke to thought his opponent was an utter bum, but he was tough enough.

I think he could do with ditching manny to be honest. I haven't seen Lee get better on the inside which i thought would have been priority after the Vera fight.
Would love to see him come back here for a few fights Peters will move him along a lot quicker than following Manny around facing people that won't really challenge him.
Lee looked very sloppy no head movement no defence against the guy getting inside. That fight didn't make sense to me at all the Latvian guy was about a mile behind Willie Gibbs. He should stay in Ireland and let Peters get him the fights. When i compare how i have seen him in America or anywhere else besides Ireland he looks bad. On home soil he looked very good. The opponents are better and Lee performs better.

I cant see him leaving Manny, he seems to idolise Manny, but I prefer him to get back to Ireland, like you said he has fought his best fights at home and I think that is were he needs to serve his apprenticeship. It has worked for Dunne and I think it could work for Lee, but Lee is in a very tough division.
I agree, his defence was pretty bad tonight, a bit like the Vera fight tbh...

I've always had a problem with Andy Lee...being a Yorkshireman I do take a bit of convincing otherwise when I have made my mind up. As you say his class does show through on occasion but he gets hit way too easy and when he eventually gets in against decent opposition he could be in real trouble.
Jeez another zzzz fest by the teutonic equivalent of valium....:tired:tired:tired
What would Haye do different to Chageav?
Hopefully not eat as much leather maybe counter and slip.
Not move toward Wlad in straight lines, slowly?
