Barrera: ‘I want to beat Manny so badly I can taste it’
Carries weight of Pacquiao’s victims

MANILA, Philippines -- Manny Pacquiao has always fought in behalf of his country --anyone who has heard his previous pre- and post-fight talk knows that much.

When he faces Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera on Oct. 6, though, he won’t be the only one trying to summon nationalistic fervor.
Barrera, the Latino boxing idol headed for Hall-of-Fame enshrining, has turned the highly anticipated rematch into a patriotic battle.
“I am not just fighting for personal revenge, I’m fighting for my country and my fellow Mexican fighters who have fallen victim to Pacquiao,” said Barrera after a workout, according to a report at eastsideboxing.com ([Only registered and activated users can see links]).
“I am training harder than I ever have. I want to beat Manny so badly I can taste it. This goes beyond being personal. For me, this fight is about restoring national pride.”

And as if there isn’t enough nationalistic flavor surrounding the match already, a report by the boxing website on the Barrera training in Guadalajara has declared the Filipino ring icon as “Republica Enemy No. 1.”
“Pacquiao has blitzed through the best boxing fighters Mexico had to offer since 2003, including Morales (KO 3, TKO 10), Barrera (TKO 11), Oscar Larios (W 12), Emanuel Lucero (TKO 3), Hector Velazquez (TKO 6) and Jorge Solis (KO 8 ),” the report said.

“The only “blemish” was a draw against Juan Manuel Marquez in 2004, where Pacquiao sent Marquez to the canvas three times in the first round.”
Pacquiao, for his part, continues to train at the Rex “Wakee” Salud gym in Cebu City, and has vowed not to allow Barrera exact revenge for his humiliating loss in Texas in November 2003.
The gym has been closed to the public after trainer Freddie Roach complained to gym owner Salud of unknown individuals secretly taking footage of Pacquiao.

Even the media have not been spared. They have been asked to secure an entry pass at Salud’s office to be approved by Roach.
On Saturday, Pacquiao will hold a media and fans’ day where he will grant the wish of some 43 pupils of the Fun and Learn Achievers’ Learning Center to see him train. Salven L. Lagumbay, contributor

Pacquiao has added a bit more too his arsenal. That's all. He throws to the body a bit more, and every-so often he adds a right hook in. But other than that, he still comes straight forward looking to land his 1-2. but sometimes he bob and weaves forward like the pac-em 3 fight. might be his technique in facing boxers.

Barrera has always been the smarter fighter if that means anything. Pac has so much talent it makes up for his limitations. I still want MAB to pull a upset though but he has to really hurt Pac to do it.

Barrera is one of my favorite fighters of all time. That being said, the odds are stacked against him.

Even so, I'm going for Barrera. Not sure if I'm picking him, but I'm definitely rooting for him. The fact that he's coming off of a loss he feels he should have won makes him all the more dangerous.

Stylistically, though, he hangs his head out there just right for Manny's straight left damn near every time he jabs. Manny is not the guy you want to do that for. Even if he corrects that flaw, I'm not sure he has what it takes to beat Pacquiao who is a beast right now. I think Pacquiao has settled into the weight better than Marco has. He has carried his speed AND power. Stamina is still there...Marco will have to fight the fight of his life to pull this one off!

I`ll say something for that barrera, he sure has a shit load of fans.

Am I the only cunt on esb who WANTS Pacman to win ?

I always preffered pac & morales to mab & jmm, they can all be versatile in the ring but only morales & pac give the fans their money`s worth.

My problem with barrera is that fans KNOW he can create excitement but rarely does nowadays, jmm hardly ever creates drama, morales has all the boxing technique in the world but creates drama for fun while its just pac`s style to fight this way.

The only time barrera ever shows up for a warriors battle is vs rival em, other than that he fights for himself, not the fans.

If pac comes in less than 100%, mab wins, plain & simple but if pac comes in like mab.... 100%, :bbb :dead goodnight barrera.

Without the headbutt, Pac could have won that one. Another thing, Pac used the wrong gloves.

Im just saying they didnt even bring it up. The article said he blasted through all the mexican fighters and with the only blemish JMM-Pac, didnt even mention the loss to morales.

No they discussed Pac-JMM. Morales-Pac I occured after Pac-JMM.

further they said since 2003 he only had one blemish (JMM). They were talking about since 2003 because that was the first Barrera fight. Pac-Morales I was in 2005.

Barrera by decision, I belive he is ultra-focued, and Pacquiao has too many distractions right now. Despite what MArco says, all the pressure is on Pacquiao he has a whole country to represent. Pacquiao hasnt improved that much since when he fought Barrera the first time, Barrera if anything is a smarter fighter. He makes the best adjustments between rematchs of any fighter today.

I'm starting to get closer and closer to this decision. I'm still at 50/50, but the more I think the more I can picture MAB w/his hand rasied in victory!

You're absolutely right when you say Pac hasn't improved much. I hear all this shit about him being a improved fighter, but I still see a 1demensional guy w/power. He looked better and not so 1demensional because he fought a old faded EM who couldn't avoid being hit by a train wreck if he saw and heard it coming for miles!:yep His comp lately has been less than stellar, and more like mediocre! MAB fights much smarter these days, and he counters much better. An old faded Em managed to beat Pac once w/smarts, and ring generalship. Well MAB is better than that version, and quicker! Mab has alot to prove, and I think he has the will, desire, determinatin to pull it off. There's nothing like sweet revenge and that's all that's that's on MAB's mind!!!

PAC's in for a suprise!!!!

Why does that confuse you? What I said was true bro and it makes perfect sense. No?

Barrera couldn't hang with pac when he was 4 years younger and now that he's clearly past his prime, how is he going to deal with an improved pacman who's also in his prime?

I wouldn't live off of 4yrs ago:nono

MAB may not be in his prime, but he's a much improved boxer(keyword BOXER), and he's also not going into this fight w/outside problems. Revenge is the ultimate motivator, and when you have will and skill it can be dangerous for you opponent. PAC hasn't changed much since then, and he's full of holes, and flaws. MAB over the past few yrs has become an excellent counter puncher, and Pac's style plays into that. He's become a much better, and more efficient boxer and against PAC we'll going to see a total package from a smarter fighter, w/revenge on his mind!

How has PAC improved??

Yes you make some interesting points and BTW Im one of the minority who really dislikes Pacman and I don't find him exciting at all because he's is wild and one dimensional and my hate for barrera is causing me to be a little bias towards him but even if I was being objective, I don't see him beating pacma at all.

How did pac improve? He actually knows how to slip punches now and he did add the right hook to his arsenal along with his body punching.

OK...no disrespect to you, but PAC has fought no-one since these supposed added arsenal. As far as avoiding punches,.. avoiding punches from guys like old EM and Larios and the rest of the subpar comp he faced lately isn't hard, but the truth is he didn't. He was still there to hit, and MAB is a more accurate efficient puncher. That right hook is good against pressure fighter, and fighter coming at you...MAB won't be doing that:nono

Morales and Larios is old and barrera isn't? Even in 03, barrera was a bit past his prime but now his clearly on the downside as shown in Barrera/Marquez. He was outboxing Marquez for a few rounds but he couldnt keep up the pace.

I see him outboxing pacman for about 7 rounds before getting KTFO.

Only men who can beat pacman is Marquez and Soto.

BTW Marquez owns both Barrera and pacman's one dimensional ass.

it was a draw. get over it. and ig pac beat an old mab, jmm beat a much olde mad so that win of jmm is less significant

Are you and any of PAC's fans over the age of 15yrs, and not gay?? You're like a bunch of Jr High School boys who never get the elementary side out of them, and no girls like cause they're immature. You just hang w/eachother and try and find something or someone to represent you, and that guy is PAC!! You're delusional, simple minded, village idiots who have no one but eachother. You laugh at our own corny jokes, and seem somewhat gay by the way you seem to constantly ride dick, hug nutz, and swallow PAC sperm like it's a delicacy!
