I'm pretty confident in my semifinal brackets...about 85%.
Bika & Johnsen from blue; Codrington & Soliman from gold.
Soft spot though I may have for the hardworking vets, I don't want to overlook hungry young guys like Codrington, Johnsen, and Smith.
Twist my arm...I'll pick the Scorpion.

Im rooting for Soliman, its hard not to like the guy...and was anyone surprised that he was the best conditioned? I know I wasnt, the guy throws a million damn punches.
I also have a soft spot for Alexander (b/c I covered his third fight at the blue horizon, but I think his style is all wrong for the contender b/c he has little power, is jab heavy, and the ring will be small). and for Codrington b/c I would like to see him recover from that horrific loss.

My enthusiasm for this season took a hit with Rubin Williams being dismissed on the first episode. I like Codrington and Soliman to be in it for the long run and I have a feeling Banks will do well. If I had to make a pick it would be Soliman.

No where in my post did I blame the show. I will continue to watch it and be a fan. In another thread on this topic, I pointed out that Rubin has always had conditioning issues. It is no one's fault but his own.

Im just kidding man. It stinks when you have a rooting interest and it doesnt work out. Williams, in particular, blew a solid chance. He's pretty good, but clearly he took this too lightly.

I would have been, had I not seen the show. The touch-board thing was scary. He was SO slow to react. And he's all slurry. Bad news..that kid is obviously shot. HOpe the damage is not permanent, but it's hard to think otherwise with him so young.

I think they made a huge mistake cutting Williams so early, he was clearly one of the better fighters there. It's not like he was necessarily going to be the first to fight, he very realistically couldv'e gotten himself into fight shape by the time he actually had to lace up the gloves and fight.
McGirt was right though, they all needed to be on point by the time they even showed up if they wanted to prove they were taking it seriously. Williams and Santiago should've known better.

i don't know about soliman, he shouldn't be fighting at 168...or 160

You're right about that, they should have definitely known better.
But I also think that all that computer generated bullshit they had them do is not a very realistic indication of a fighter's abilities to step in there and fight. This isn't a game like pro Amercian football where running and jumping times tell you how good a player you are. This is boxing, where skill and talent are what counts most overall.
I don't know, I guess I'm just disapointed they let such a good fighter go so early without even letting him get in there and prove himself.
See, that's where I disagree with you. To a point. You certiainly cant measure heart. And those tests dont measure chin (Talking to you Jaidon). But, they do measure overall athletism, and why not measure that? Why not factor that into the sport, like other pro sports? Clearly the difference between the hand-eye coordination between Wells and the other was a MAJOR factor. And it was good to asses that before he got into the ring, where he would have gotten hurt. The guy is shot, not up to professional standards, and it's good that they caught that.

Would be interesting to se if they could measure some kind of test for chin though. Like on neck and trapezoid strength? There has got to be some kind of scientific analysis.
One very interesting thing Atlas mentioned on FNF this year was an observation about "long necked fighters". And not 30 seconds after he made the point about how succeptible they are, the dude got somked. and Codrington is kind of similar in that build.

no fight last night, they just cut 16 down to 10 based on performance evaluation. even at that it was pretty interesting; they went all out this season
-good fighters
-good coaches (corea, mcgirt)
-lots of cameos
i wasn't really a fan of seasons 1&2, although i watched them, but 3 should be a good season

Nobody, just tryouts. They cut the field from 16 down to two teams of five. McGirt's team is Soliman, Buchanan, McCrary, Banks, and Codrington. Correa's team is Smith, Vera, Johnsen, Bika, and Alexander.
In the preview for next week, they hinted at a Vera-Codrington beef.

I'd say Soliman and Bika are the two best out of that crop. I don't see how any of them are going to beat Bika, considering he's been competitive with top 10 fighters and guys like Codrington have yet to even showcase the chin to compete with such.
Soliman is my favourite from the bunch, but he's probably too small. I wish he'd move down to 154 if he could.

The division's sitting, spread-eagled and with puckered lips, waiting to be taken. Can very easily see Alcine, Spinks, et. al. tying themselves up in knots getting outworked against SS. Kudos to him, though, for mixing it up with younger, physically larger guys and at a weight where he has virtually no power.

At 154 he had enough power to do damage. I could see Spinks running and pot shotting towards a decision.

Well, obviously here's hoping it becomes a fierce rivalry, but you know how these shows milk anything and everything for dramatic effect. It could have been one of those little high-test flare-ups that happen in the gym all the time, where five minutes later they're all "sorry man" and huggy and shit. :yep

Codrington I think takes this.
In 5 rounds(unless he gets caught) I think he can't be beat. His workrate matchs Soliman plus he has power.

Hey good eye, I wasn't paying that close attention. :good
Hopefully they maneuver them towards a grudge match like they did with Wright-Bundrage. Although I wasn't too happy with the way that one went.

I know you were kidding. I didn't mean to come across like a knucklehead in my response if it came out that way. I am so mad at Williams it might have come through my typing. :D
Like you said, he blew a solid chance. All of these guys should realize that this is a great opportunity for a great payday, excellent exposure, and bigger opportunities down the line if they do well. I can't believe Rubin blew it so early.

I wonder if they knew at the time of the tryouts that it was for $1mil?

That's a good question. I don't know when the producers decided on the purse amount, but if any boxer knew beforehand that it was a mil and still showed up in less than top condition...well, I don't know what to call that.

Oh HELL YEAH. They know its for SOMETHING much bigger than what they have fought for in the past. and judgeing by the names they secured, and probably the promoters they had to work with, Im sure everyone knew it was for 1M.

This is false. In football, the athletic tests don't equate to squat either. Running fast and jumping high doesn't make you a good football player anymore than scoring high on the SPAR makes you a good boxer. In fact, it means even less in football.
I don't think either sport is ever going to introduce such technological advancements as a definitive gauge of ability. These types of things are ideally for giving a general idea of comparative stats, and pointing out areas that may need improvement. Not that you need a machine to figure this shit out, it just sort of expedites the process and brings some objectivity into it.

This season looks like the best contender yet.
I would love to see Sam Soliman win. He is a great guy, very honest and hard working from what I have seen, and would thoroughly deserve it. He isn't the cleanest guy to watch, but at least you know he always comes to fight.
