i got a 1909 t208?? tobacco card yesterday for $10 i looked into the guy and he seems like a great fighter prob one of the best mw ever but i was wondering if anyone knows the value of the card

im pretty sure jack johnson was his last fight listed on the card and that was 1909 right? and he had a few more after that fight

That's the thing really. The condition of the card itself is what will determine it's value, ultimately. If by chance it's in good condition you might be sitting on something. Say it's a PSA/BGS 8, 9, 10, and there are very few or zero PSA 9 Ketchel's in the population. Suddenly the thing is 10X book value.

Its a true story ,except it wasn't Britt who said it ,it was Wilson Mizner,Ketchel's ex manager.
Mizner was a broadway playwright, a screenwriter and a big time gambler ,among other things, [he helped to fix the World Series].
Regarding Ketchel, Mizner received a telegram ,informing him of Ketchel's death ,he sent a return cable ,"count ten over him ,hel'l get up."
Mizner was a noted wit,one of his boxing gags was a reference to Tom Sharkey,Sharkey owned a saloon , with the old bat wing doors.
Mizner said of Sharkey,"he's so dumb he crawled under them for 2 years ,before he found out they swung both ways"

Ketchel was eating breakfast not playing cards and Goldie was not Dipleys wife, they had only met recently and came to the ranch together looking for work pretending to be husband and wife. The story that Ketchel had raped/had an affair with Goldie behind Dipley's back was in all likelyhood concocted by Dipley in order to give him some defense against a murder charge.

He was also an opium addict and while only 24 at the time of his death he was already on the physical downside of his career due to the hard life he continued to live.
