Boxer accused of attempted murder
A boxing champion has appeared in court charged with attempting to murder a man in Edinburgh.
Commonwealth Games gold medallist Kenny Anderson, 26, appeared in private from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court accused of attacking David Togher.
Mr Anderson is alleged to have repeatedly punched Mr Togher on the head, and to have repeatedly struck him with a hammer in Hay Drive on 23 June.
He made no plea and was remanded in custody.
The case was continued for further examination.
Mr Anderson, from Edinburgh, is the reigning Commonwealth Games light heavyweight champion after winning gold at the Melbourne games in 2006.
He turned professional following his amateur success.
Don't look good for him :-(

Yet he'll still get more fans than the likes of Khan.
I hope he doesn't box again.

These days almost every attempted murder charge is dropped to serious assault and if he has no previous he will not get jailed. H e will be released on bail in the next few days imo

exactly.......... probably was with the guy that done it, and the celebrity's name gets chucked in, and we dont yet know what this guy got hit with the hammer for, doubt if a pro boxer would jepordise everythin by lifting a hammer to someone, when his fists are more than capable, unless the guys done somethin to his family or whatever.

Getting beat with a hammer might not be as bad as it sounds. There is no way anything can be known for sure without a thorough investigation and a quick headline tells us nothing. Kenny seems a nice enough fella and im prepared to wait til a proper statement is released before jumping to conclusions.
The papers usually talk 99% shit with 1% truth added in

Yeah althought the fact that he's not made a plea doesn't exactly sound great I agree that a lot of the times in cases like these (And 'Rape' cases) the celebrity name seems to be dished up when in reality they have nothing to do with the incident in the first place. Hope this isn't true, seems a nice lad and I have no reason to believe he'd need to use a hammer when he's a pro boxer.

He hasn't made a plea because he doesn't have to yet. The scottish system is different to ours, the case is now being examined to see if it has to be taken further.
I make no presumption about people's guilt or innocence but some people's reactions here are straight out of the Daily Mail!

I'm glad he used a hammer.
Wouldn't want him to hurt his hands on some guys head.
i know kenny personally (got tickets from him etc and done interviws with him ) and i find this stroy hard to swallow.i hope its keech, but i dont really know .Scotland has lost a great talented boxer who could have done quite well,i know he was hungry for a chance ,and he deserved it .
everytime someone spoke avbout the current super middleweights (like bunce used to do ) kenny was always over looked even thoguh he was a commonwealth gold medalist .

Lay down a few facts before this goes any further..
i've known Kenny a very long time.. (we had our amateur debuts against one another)
he's a Family Man.. and a hard working Professional,
his victim is a menace to society, a very well known villain.. for all we know Kenny may have been fighting for his life - and as it looks this way could be a lucky story of self defense..
We could be sat here posting tributes to the death of a young fighter, or wishing him a good recovery.
i hope he's ok... and that he gets a fair trial..

How Fast was khan going again when he drove on the wrong side of the road, went through a red light and knocked down a pedestrian on a pelican crossing???
Think ill settle for being hit with a hammer!!!!!!
Dont see anyone saying khan should have had the book thrown at him or his license suspended???

Yes, but why did Kenny have the hammer in the first place?
I hope this is all bullshit because the guy is a talented boxer, but if he beat someone up with a hammer, no matter who it was, he deserves to be sentenced, unless he can use a defence against GBH with intent, for example self-defence or provocation.

most young lads dont go on the wrong side of the road, go through a red light at a pelican crossing and hit someone though. But if they did they would get time but as khan is such a role model he gets away with it.
Its typical though if its a scottish boxer then he should be suspended, lose his license rot in jail but when its an english boxer its mostly covered up at times as if its them whos the victim. typical english snobbery!!!

Theres no such thing as GBH in scottish law we have assault and serious assault though in this case could be serious assault with a deadly weapon.

Yeah he doesn;'t seem as bad lad, and as you say none of us know what really happened we can only speculate... it seems his victim isn't exactly a well-liked fella and has a bad rep, so it could just be a case of self defense

Probably best not to speculate too much here. There`s a lot of rumours flying around ; I`m waiting to get a phone call saying " did you hear Kenny killed Michael Jackson?"
I suspect drugs are involved as Togher was well into that scene. The rumour mill suggests that Kenny`s mate, who we shall call "Dean", had a problem with Togher regarding money and that "Dean" and Kenny were in the area when the hammer incident took place. There are a number of stories including one that Kenny`s friend took a hammer from his work`s van and that Kenny was unarmed. Anyway Togher was injured.
The following morning a guy was shot and wounded with a shotgun in Paisley Drive as he left his house. Kenny lives in Paisley Drive and often goes for a morning run at this time. Its now accepted that the victim was not the intended target. Conclusions have been drawn.
Then on Sunday night "Dean" was stabbed and seriously injured in The Inch.
As I say best not to speculate but it does appear that the prospect of jail might not be Kenny`s only worry.
However, it is likely that, to get a conviction here, Togher will have to identify his attackers in court. Given his alleged lifestyle that may be very unlikely. So there is a strong chance that Kenny will be back training in a few weeks.
Maybe its time to re-locate outside Scotland though, Kenny.

We dont Know that KENNY had a hammer,
But if you exercise the thought that someone was attempting to attack the celtic light heavyweight champion.. would the alleged victim perhaps felt more confident and brave bringing a hammer to the show... kenny anderson doesn't need a hammer..
Kenny could do far worse with his fists,
like i've already posted..
all we truely know as fact is that Kenny has made no plea..
which is his own right..
pending further investigation im sure the true facts of the case will come out.
But this tit for tat between reference to khan and naz's motor offences
is pointless.... because if a local hoodlum attacked them in Bolton/Sheffield i'd like to hope they would rise out on top aswell..
and we'd be online supporting them too.
I BELIEVE KENNY IS A VICTIM - and i'll report more news as it comes in.

This made no sense to me the other day when i read it tbh.
1. If the "victim" is a victim and is to be found to have been attacked etc.....would Mr Anderson be fighting still, if he was found guilty ?
Dont think so.
2. Why would he continue boxing if all his future earnings went to the aforementioned....."victim" ?
I think he might want to change his "trade" no ? This wouldnt be likely as there is now a "victim" so that means he is in the pokey.
This is based on the idea that its an attempted murder charge.
I havent seen your reasoning behind this or someone asking what i just have.
Am i missing something here ? :huh
Cheers

I've been away and unable to comment on this story but knowing the family well as I do I feel I should comment.
First of all Kenny Anderson has nothing to do with the drug trade in Edinburgh, I have heard various storys going around Edinburgh, that have said David Togher owed Kenny Anderson a vast amount of cash which is why this attack took place, all of these are lies. Kenny made no plea on advice given by his lawyer not because he has anything to hide, he denies any involvement in this, and is confident he will be cleared in due course. The police have not linked the shooting to the attack on David Togher, the shooting happened at 12.40am Kenny does not go running at this time so whoever said he does have got there wires crossed. The stabbing on Dean Scott who is a good friend of Kenny's may or may not be connected, Dean is a bit of a boy about Edinburgh so I imagine he has quite a few enimies. David Toger is a horrible trouble maker he will stand trial shortly and is expected to recieve a double figure sentance for drug dealing, the general feeling around Edinburgh is that he got what he deserved. Lastly Kenny Anderson comes from a large travelling family many of who are hard hard men, with a few nut cases thrown in, I doubt very much he or his family will be worried by the likes of David Togher and the rest of his carboard gangster mates so I doubt he will relocate anywhere.
