Dont talk so fast, while I am not personally a Calzaghe fan he does have decent skill. I think he is untested IMO. That belt he has he faced B&C class opposition while holding it.
175 pounds an under I think B-Hop can beat him, Taylor, Chad Dawson, Roy Jones could all beat him. I will give Calzaghe props if he beats Kessler, who is a young undefeated up and coming fighter. But 2 me this is his biggest fight of his career since he been champion, and Kessler isnt in the elite of the elite. He is a good fighter that i will give him credit for if he beats, but not an elite fighter. And for as many years as Calzaghe has had that belt for this b 2 b his biggest fight says somethin about him

b-hop - his inactivity in fights these days could cost him big time against the hyper active calzaghe.
roy jones jr - oh do me a favour, roy is shot to pieces, any decent 168-175 will take roy out these days.

SO answer me this ? right a couple months back RJ offered to fight Calzaghe at 168, he would fight him in Wales, and give him the bigger split 60/40 to Calzaghe. And he turned it down why???
If evrything is in your favor why turn it down. jones offered to fight Calzaghe before and he never stepped up.
Common man his best opposition since he held that belt was IMO Eubank.
Lacy was overrated to me. He made a ppv title defense against Peter Manfredo wtf?

JT will win, Pavlik is overrated to me. Very easy to hit, head movement isnt all that great, foot movement isnt either, his punches get wild at times. JT twill redeem himself in the eyes of many after that fight.
Ok we shall see, since RJ has been fightin evry1 keep sayin he is going to lose, and when he wins makes excuses. We shall see, I hope someway some how they can get it on.

because it was after the mandfredo mess and calzaghe was looking for a real challenge, he gains very little in terms of legacy by beating on an old, physically worn jones jr. kessler is a much better fight for him, an actual test. not a worn out chinny former great. that's why.
fuck, lacy does more for his legacy than this version of roy.

since last losing to tarver, he has beaten amaju and hanshaw. he has hardly redeemed himself with those victories and proven he can still cut it with the bigger boys, and facing trinidad who will have been inactive for about 2 and a half years when they meet doesn't cut the mustard.

Dude fought Manfredo and got lots of money for it. And didnt care, why cant he fight Jones for a lot of money and move on. People not gon give him bundles of credit for beating Manfredo, and he doesnt seem to care. Why not step up in competition and fight Jones. Despite Jones not being who he was, he is bette than Manfredo so I dont see the problem.
And thats the problem I have wit him and oter fighters. If people say he wont get any credit for beating this version of Jones you already think he is going to win, why not just beat his ass and get a nice check.
Same shit i wanted FLoyd to do with that bum Margarito, if people sayin you cant woop him, then just take the money and beat his ass to show people that he aint shit. Why dont Calzaghe do that?
Man offered to fight at 168 in Wales and give him the bigger split, but him and his team turned that down. You g2 b a damn fool 2 do that, or just scared of wat potentially could happen to him. a 1 poppin up in the L column

He turned it down because Jones is shot and not a proper challenge anymore. Hopkins is past it as well and I'd be disapointed in Calzaghe if he took either of those fights. Kessler is a REAL threat and has a genuine chance of victory as he's a step above any other opponent from 160-175lbs (with the possible exception of Dawson)

Jones is a no-win situation for Calzaghe. If Calzaghe wins, Jones was shot and everyone would start the 'If Jones was prime he'd beat him' bullshit. A couple of months back Roy offered Calzaghe a fight, you think thats a harder test than Kessler? Jones is shot and will lose to the first good fighter he faces, Kessler is a young, prime world-class fighter who would knock RJ out inside a couple of rounds. He took the much tougher/bigger fight.

If im Joe Calzaghe some1 offers me 60/40 in my favor, I can fight at my weight class. My opponent has to come down from 175 2 me. And I can fight in my backyard, + people saying that I could never beat him etc. F dat, im signing my opponents death wish. That 2 much good of a deal to pass up. He cant fight Jones b/c he is allegedly shot. Hopkins is old. But yet he can fight a Contender fighter in Manfredo for a belt and have no problem with that:huh Him nor his fans

Thats an entirely different question. Its a great tradegy that he hasn't fought more elite opponents as he has such supreme skills.
Lacey was supposed to be 'elite' but Joe beat him like a StarTrek fan and suddenly Lacey wasn't nearly as elite as we had been led to belive.
How much of it was Joe's fault, his opponents or just plain economics I don't know.

Clinton Woods is a posibility because of the domestic interest.

Cazaghe never been in there with some1 with the handspeed and power of RJ.
2 Me I think RJ is pulling a fast one on evry1, thats my personal belief. I think the whole layinmg on the ropes thing that he is doing now is to show people that the "bum rush" Roy thing wont work anymore. Now he fights effectively off the ropes as oppose 2 be4 he just stood there and got beat.
in Tarver vs. Jones 3 when people were saying Jones was shot from Glen Johnson.
ROy had his speed, headmovement, footmovement evrythig. I dont think you go from that to a couple of months l8ter now you cant move at all. Like I said this is my personal belief, and we will see in the coming months. I want to see what his plans are after he beats Trinidad. Since he would already b at 170 if he will mess around the 168 division

Calzaghe has a respectable resume, but his record doesnt match his talent at all. He hasnt fought the main fighters of his era, but its not ALL his fault. Jones, Hopkins etc were not the easiest to negotiate with, just like Calzaghe. Would beating Kessler, Hopkins and Dawson satisfy you?

I'm a Roy fan, after watching all his fights and seeing him against Toney, I'm going to say he is shot. Roy is coming towards 40 years of age. He is not a 1/3 of what he was when he fought Toney. Back then Roy didn't have trouble getting hit, more speed, had good movement, his legs weren't dead, and etc.
For those saying Jones has a glass jaw - nonsense. He took all tarvers punches in their first fight, took some good shots against Clinton Woods, and in this late stage of his career was hit repeatedly for 9 rounds by Johnson in order to be KO'd, repeatedly hit, he was broke down. I don't really think it is possible for a person with a glass jaw to become a champion. At some point within every fight they have they are going to get hit with a hard shot.

Some of these guys on here just amaze me. If you have him losing against Kessler or Dawson, it's reasonable to pick either of them, especially Kessler, who I believe is a level above most around the general 160-175 crop, even maybe a level above Joe at this point, though Joe has a wicked styles advantage that will do it for him.
But Taylor can barely handle little Winky Wright, yet he's going to move up and beat Calzaghe? He can barely handle a smaller southpaw with pressure and quick hands....
Absurdity. Shows how overrated some people are and how jaded boxing fans are.

In all honesty, we really dont know how overrated or underrated Calzaghe is because, as stated earlier, he's never been in with any elite fighters. We've seen him beat down c class fighters like manfredo, and beat up one dimensional fighters like lacy, but how would he fare with a hopkins or a young hungry skilled fighter like Kessler?
Of course all of his mad fans will predict him to win by blow out but alot of that is just them speaking from the love they have for the guy. Fact is, until he's tested, nobody really knows how good he is. Thats one reason why I would give Hopkins, Taylor, or even Jones Jr a shot at taking him down. These guys have been in there with elite comp, we know what they are about, but what can Joe do?
