It is reported that unbeaten Jr-welterweight Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton is unhappy about the ticket allocation for his upcoming "super-fight" with Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on December 10th. The Manchester Evening News reports that Team Hatton have only been allocated 3,900 tickets for the travelling army of Hatton's fans. For the recent fight with Jose Luis Castillo in June in Las Vegas some 9,000 fans travelled from the UK alone. It is estimated that some 13,000 fans may have already booked hotels and flights from the UK prior to the tickets going on sales such is the anticipation for the fight in the UK. Hatton's father Ray Hatton commented, "I have never seen Ricky more gutted than this. We are trying to swap some of the more expensive tickets to get more tickets for Ricky's fans." It is estimated that of a 15,150 capacity for the event Hatton and Mayweather will each get 3,900 tickets and Golden Boy Promotions will be allocated 2,350 with a third being allocated to the MGM Grand for hotel guests and "high rollers" that will come into Vegas for the event. Team Hatton initially requested 10,000 for the event given the UK exodus for the Castillo fight in June

It might be a good idea to at least wait to see if you get a ticket before reserving hotel rooms.

If they are going to do a 3 way split of tickets they should hold the fight in a larger place. Espiciaily consdering how popular Hatton is and how many of his fans are willing to travil half way around the world to see him.

High rollers who spend so much money help make the casino able to afford a ridiculous site fee.

yeah, the high rollers pay the site fee, so its because of these people boxing is ruined, one of the biggest fights of the decade in front of a massive 15k, what a joke!
But Hatton wouldnt take this fight if it wasnt for the site fee and the big fat 10m-12m payday hes getting

Stop exaggerating.
There's lots of more serious problems in boxing than a big fight, which will make insane types of money, taking place in a casino with 15,000 viewers instead of a larger arena.
Problems such as........Mayweather and Hatton never fighting at all in the first place.
For a little while it looked as if the fight would never even take place at all.

I don't see what the big deal is. He's acting as if UK fans can't just buy the tickets from ticketmaster anyway.

It might be a good idea to at least wait to see if you get a ticket before reserving hotel rooms.
The problem with doing it that way was that flights out of the UK to Vegas around the time of the fight were getting expensive/ hard to find. Once you need a flight its a lot cheaper to get a flight and hotel package. If you waited until you def. had a ticket for the fight, you risked having to pay a fortune to get over to Vegas.
Talking with Brits who are going over, most are taking the veiw that the worse case scenario is that they are going to Vegas for a week...they'res worse things that could happen!!

The bottom line is this fight should have been at bigger venue. Given it's december wembley wouldn't have good, but it could have done 70,000 plus at the millenium stadium with the roof closed.
Ok Floyd doesn't want to travel, why not a bigger american venue? This is an absolute shambles. It has to be asked has the USA become so used to boxing being pushed aside that they no longer know how to hold a big fight? Where's a guy like Tex Rickard when you need him. Home of big time boxing my backside.

The Thomas and Mack Center has a copaicity of 18,776 which would allow for more tickets to be sold and more given to Hatton. If they want to brave the cold in December Sam Boyd Staduim holds 40,000 for football.

It seems as if they are actually LOOSING money. Hatton's fans ALONE can fill that arena. Thinks about it, 9k fans came just to see him fight Castillo.
Vegas casinos probably charge more for tickets, plus they can afford incredibly expensive site fees since the live gate is only part of the money they pull in.
Then you have GBP reserving tickets and giving them to potential sponsors, which in turn creates more money. GBP has a lot of clout over at HBO (who I'm sure preferred the fight in Vegas over England).
It's kind of lame, but that's the way it is. I was planning on going to the fight in Vegas but if I can't, well, there's always PPV. I'm just happy all these good fights are taking place in the fall.

Oscar and the casinos are just looking to exploit Hatton's fan, like Hatton does but worse.
The ticket prices Oscar likes to charge will destroy hundreds of Manchester families. I'm serious about that. Sports fans put their lively-hood at risk to see these events.

That is totally off the mark. You underestimate the british boxing fan. Do you know how much these trips cost? We can have a piss up anywhere. In any event even if we assume you're right, half of 10,000 means hatton drew 5,000 true boxing fans half across the world for the castillo fight, Floyd can't even dream of doing that.

Yeah but we could have had a massive event.
Instead we have a fighter fighting in his hometown who cant get 4 fans in an arena v a fighter who cant get enough tickets and instead most will go to fat rich men who don even really care.Gotta stop you right there. Floyd is from Grand Rapids Michigan not Vegas. I don't care what they call his "adopted" hometown. It's amazing to me that so many people wanna see Hatton get his ass kicked.

this shit should've been at the rose bowl or something like that the mad hatton alone is bringing manchester
It would be nice to see more fights in large arenas, like Chavez-Haugen.
No matter what promoters like to claim, "we're doing this for the fans and the good of the sport, yada-yada"....they're concerned with what's good money-wise.
If GBP felt it would've been better in a business sense to have it in L.A. or something, then they'd have it there. It came down to the Staples Center and the MGM Grand, and most likely the MGM Grand outbid Staples.

Lets be honest here Oscar was going to have more fans no matter who he faces. Not to mention LA to Vegas is a 2.5 hr car ride people in LA drive to Vegas for the weekend all the time. Besides that why ignore the fact that Oscar dictated the ring size, the glove size and the weight and still lost to a smaller man.

Thousands of drunken Brits roaming round Vegas pretty annoyed they can't find a ticket is NOT a good idea. As with previous occasions where this has occured at overseas football matches many simply storm the gates. This would be seriously bad news as the Yanks have no idea how to handle such a situation
