View Full Version : Rendall Munroe v WBC champ Nishioka?

Munroe seems to be the top contender for the Japanese southpaw Toshioka Nishioka.
When Israel Vazquez vacated in order to move up to featherweight, Nishioka became champ.
Nishioka is freakishly tough, throws lots of shots. He was a big bantam and now has shown some power as a super bantam, walking through Genaro Garcia and scoring the 1 punch KO of Jhonny Gonzalez in Mexico.
Obviously, the stumbling block: if Maloney can't get the Japanese fighter to come to England, would they travel all the way to Japan?
I hope this fight happens. Munroe is a strong super bantam and a fight with Nishioka would likely be an excellent fight between world class 122-pounders (Munroe was in Ring mag's top 10 until Mathebula pushed Caballero close).

Maloney would not win purse bids and I don't think Munroe would go to Japan.

Maloney would not win purse bids and I don't think Munroe would go to Japan.you may well be right - this is my fear. what's the alternative though? step down from EBU to Commonwealth level, something Maloney was planning before they storted calling out Borenord Dunn. this is an authentic chance to win a world title. will they just be small minded and stay in leisure centres?
one ray of hope - Nishioka might not be a big name in Japan. His last bout was in Mexico. Who knows, maybe, just maybe they can bring him over.

Munroe has the size advantage, being a big super bantam. Nishioka being a big bantam, really. I would expect a 12 round war with loads of punches thrown. Nishioka of course has mixed at a far higher class.
got a reason?
real tough ask for Munroe. Think with Caballero will be moving up in the near future, Maloney will probably be looking to work him into a fight for the Vacant IBF. An IBF eliminator has been talked about in the last year a couple of times.

Nishioka would stop Munroe. Munroe may be big at the weight but I don't think this is an advantage to him, he looks slow and sluggish in most of his fights and I am not convinced his stamina is up to scratch against world class opposition.
Don't expect a Dunne V Cordoba like battle.

I have to admit that the only time I have seen Nishioka was in his fight with Gonzalez. Jhonny was handling him with relative ease until the KO, and it has to be pointed out that Gonzalez suffered a similar one punch KO to Penalosa as well as collapsing dramatically against Vasquez.
Has anyone see anything else of Nishioka? Is he really that tough? Is he too big an ask for Munroe?

Nishioka seemed to be lining that left hand up, setting it up to knock out Gonzalez. Slow start but it looked like he was going to come on and he did. He also stopped Genaro Garcia, has beaten numerous Mexicans. When a young fighter he had 4 fights with one of Thailand's best ever fighters, Veeraphol Sahaprom. And he got 2 draws. He can take sick punishment, fights at a fast pace, seems to be hitting harder now.
I would really be interested in seeing if Munroe can raise his game like Dunne did. Dunne took his chance, so let's see Munroe take his chance. Obviously Dunne got it at home. I doubt he would have gone to Panama for it, to put things in perspective.
Come on Randall!

Does Ireland really count?
Nishioka will brutalize Munroe, Munroe vs. Penalosa would be a war

Oh yeah he fought in Dublin, I should have remembered that seeing as I was there!
Something bothers me about Munroe, I won't say he lacks heart cos he has never really been tested enough to know that, but there is something missing from his fights.
If people are expecting fireworks from Munroe in any fight, I think they will be dissapointed.

I think that the first Martinez fight was a decent test for the kid, but you are right there is something missing...power. He can win fights on workrate against decent fighters, but he just doesn't have the power to keep someone like Nishioka off of him.

i'd like to see him against Hunter or Marsh i think they'd be too good tests that would show alot.

I think the thing that jumps out at me here, as has been said in this thread already, is Munroe needing to take a chance. Dunne took the chance v Cordoba. Dunne and Peters had the belief to pull it off.
Munroe was offered that shot at Cordoba but turned it down. Personally I think Maloney was the reason behind it but its kind of hard to tell what Munroe thinks. He seems to have got a sligtly big head on him after a few EBU defences.
However, its come to the time where he needs to make something happen. If the fight with Nishioka was offered I would certainly think he should jump at the chance. I mean how many cracks at a world title can one man turn down.
If he really believes he can mix it at the next level then he should just go for it. Doesn't matter if its in Nottingham or Tokyo. Just go for it.
IBF is also an option. He'd have to go through Molitor or Mathebula to get it though. There are no easy options at this stage. Everything now is a step up. The easiest option would be Maladrottu but thats not a gimme either.
Munroe does lack things though. For his big frame he's not a big puncher, hes not mobile and he's not the most skilled. He does best against people who stand right in front of him and allow him to lean on and throw body shots. Don't expect any of those things to happen at the next level

too big an ask. youtube has a video of him agaisnt veershignrigpdongnan (sp?) it's in japanese sadly so time to make like a mole. he isnt a classy boxer but he does alot of things rigth and is tough with loads of intangibles. decent chin i think aswell. and his workrate will overwork munroe personally.

The japanese site Youku have some clips of his fights . It's similar to youtube .I use clipnabber to watch videos on this site but I cant post the link incase I get banned . Just copy the url and paste in clipnabber
Munroe to me looks the classic European class fighter. Hasn't got that bit extra to make him world class. Decent all-round fighter, strong, work-rate, okay skills. Just nothing great about him, average speed, little power, not the most accurate.
I'd prefer if he proved himself against a Maludrottu, or better yet just went ahead and fought Dunne.

Have yet to see him take a shot yet how good is his chin? Has he got the heart to go to the next level is what I cant see. You have to focus on boxing jack in the bins and go for it a 100% like everyone else. I can imagine him in a build up to a world title fight and still doing the bins its madness and it wont be enough part time boxer.

Maludrottu took his chance in Japan. Gave the brilliant Hozumi Hasegawa an awkward night. Never looked like winning but gave the champ some problems (WBC bantamweight champion).

I'd say to Maloney, if the fight becomes possible to arrange, even in Japan, take it. It's better than fighting Dunne for his third of the WBA strap. Don't fancy Munroe to win against someone of Nishioka's calibre though, unfortunately.
Some more of Nishioka (in the white trunks)
