View Full Version : Hatton vs Mayweather location... wtf are they thinking?

As already reported, Ricky has an estimated 13,000 fans ALREADY (fight hasnt even been promoted yet) ready to go.....

there is no possible way they will fit even a small percentage of everyone who wants to go to this, in it.

so can someone enlighten me, because i cant think of a reason, why they dont hold this in a stadium so they can pack and milk this for all its worth?

With a good promotion, regular boxing fans showing up.... casuals showing up with a good promotion, and rickys army.... IMO they could sell close to 30,000 seats....

i just dont understand this

They can still milk it for all it's worth by charging more per ticket demand is high and supply is low, I woulnd't be surprised to see tickets in the 3,000 range for this one. Secondly ticket sales are not all of the money, the site fee that the casino will pay will suprass that of any other venue.

I for one would love to see it done in a stadium.... to show the power of this fight so to speak. I love those type of environments and ive only seen it a few times, im talking stadium type fights. Makes the fight seem larger then life imo.

yup, this whole thing is a business. GBP is the top promoting company out there, if they felt that this event would generate more revenue elsewhere believe me they would have done it.
Ticket prices are going to b outrageous for this fight watch. Betting, the buzz the city will gfet Casinoes will b flooded. THis fight is going to b bigger than Delahoya Mayweather IMO. In all honesty I wish they woulda held the fight in a stadium or somethin though so I coulda went. B./c I know holding it in Vegas the tickets are going to b to expensive for my blood.

Apparently Hatton supporters will be directly alloctated 3900 tickets. Although some will get tickets directly from Golden Boy Promotions, I can assure you that upwards of 7000 ticketless drunken Brits roaming Vegas pissed off that they can't get in is NOT a good idea

Exactly, I don't understand the complaining. The high rollers who'll fly in first class and drop a shit load of money in the casino are helping to fund the massive site fee which will dwarf the live gate revenue from a stadium. They're going to generate more money from the casino and the US PPV (and UK broadcast) TV revenues from holding the fight in Vegas rather than in a stadium in the UK or anywhere else. Yeah, it sucks that some of the die hards, who are just ordinary people and are willing to travel a long distance to see Hatton will get shut out, but this is a huge fucking business endeavor. There are priorities. We've got a legit megafight happening here and some people won't stop bitching about trivial bullshit. Hatton is still going to have plenty of supporters present, so Hatton fans need to get over it. These complaints about the venue, which are bereft of the slightest bit of consideration for the financial factors, are really fucking silly.

If your countrymen think it's appropriate to resort to hooliganism just because they can't get into a high profile event then they should stay the fuck home.

Wembley, Pontiac Silverdome (80,000 cap. for football, probably close to 100k for boxing), hmmm....ANY huge stadium. Hold it in a location with both casinos AND a big stadium. Detroit has Ford Field that holds 65,000 people, would be somewhat of a home turf for Floyd, and there are casinos.

Of course they should. But they won't. You'll have thousands of Hatton fans trying to get tickets and some will cause trouble if they can't get in. The prospect of which will also attract hardcore football hooligans who are no longer able to indulge in their 'hobby' due to passports being withdraw when England play abroard. Many of these loonies will see this as too good an opportunity to miss. They know that if caught the Yanks will simply deport them

Not all casinos are created equal. No casino pays what a vegas casino pays (not in the states at least) especially detroit

Why does Oscar hate boxing so much?

A huge attendance would have made it a magical night and would have given boxing the boost it needs.

Much manyof his billions will Oscar ever invest into boxing, the sport?

You think it's fair for people to resort to violence and vandalism just because they don't like their lot in life? Or in this case just because the can't attend a sporting event in person? Really? You sound like a real piece of garbage and I hope anyone who shares your worldview is prevented from getting a travel visa to my country.

Exactly, there's a marked difference between the MGM Grand Detroit and the real thing. I think there would also be a logistical problem because of the distance between the venue and the stadium. Is Ford Field even in Detroit proper?

On average Hatton fans seem a less bastardised brand of alcoholics than their football fan counterparts.

There migth be some trouble. But it is doubtful there would be anything on a massive scale.

What you think after Floyd loses in front of 17 thousand at the MGM he'd fight in front of 22 thousand at the MEN? Now that is PBF being overrated.

Hey, as a fan myself, I'd love to see the fans (real fans, not the rich and famous people who are going to show up at the fight just because it's a huge social event) given the beneft of the doubt too, but it just isn't going to happen with the vultures we have running the sport.

What if Mayweather stinks the place up? A stadium would be a better place IF the fight is good, but with Mayweather it may end up like the Baldo fight.

I dont think Americans quite understand the word 'atmosphere' either.

Vegas seems to call the shots on the big fights in this country and that's a shame because I think there's monumentally better boxing towns.

If ticket sales are as strong as I think they could be they should move the site to the Thomas & Mack Center Arena where the UNLV basketaball games are staged. I just checked their website and they claim they can seat 19,522 for a boxing match.

The St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa can hold 30,000 for a boxing match with great site lines. And I don't think the traveling fans would complain about a little vacation in Florida.

David UK

Or.........it could have been held in london and rather than 10,000+ Hatton fans traveling, the 4 Mayweather fans could have come here. Although we all know Floyd dont like planes.

FOUR? Has that number been swelled by his dysfunctional family members?

No apparently he also has the Joe Calzaghe book in his library although I don't think he adheres as rigidly to Joe's philosophy. He travels more than 50 miles for a fight.

I know that. I was referring to the fact that Ali was fine with anyone paying to see him fight whether they were rooting for him to win or lose.

I was in no way referring to the travel factor. The guy who posts with an accent was trying to make a point by obfuscation.

Yes in some respects they are folllowed by hooligans but most of us make it out to be an holiday and have the crack. Mayweather will see this first hand when he comes to manchester later this month.

I think it'll do another a fourth (525) of Mayweather-DLH's PPV numbers.

Maybe a third if Mayweather does a good job promoting himself and the fight during his dancing competition.

Hatton against Mayweather will get plenty of press here in the UK, especially England. However, in the States it will be a another big fight. Nowhere near Tyson v Lewis, De La Hoya v Hopkins, De La Hoya v Mayweather.

Its being shown here in the UK on Sky box office, retailing at £14.99. Around $30.

We are getting Marquez v Jaurez and Taylor v Pavlik live and free.
