I need your opinions on these boxers and how they stack up against eachother, in each category, place the boxer who you think is best at the top, and the worst at the bottom.
These are the boxers:
Ali
Tyson
Foreman
Frazier
Marciano
Catergories:
Punch power
Speed (in general, hand speed and footwork combined)
Chin (ability to take one clean shot)
Durability (ability to last out a fight taking many heavy shots)
Ring generaliship (ability to control the ring, the pace of the fight etc)
Technician/strategy (ability to form a plan based on your strengths and opponents weaknesses and putting it into effect, changing the plan if needs be if things go wrong)
Heart (recovery after getting knocked down, will to fight)
The reason I ask is I'm designing a game (again) and need some boxer stats to help me out.
PS. If you cant think of any other household name heavyweight, possibly one who has a vastly different fighting style to the ones above, that would help. Basically I need Ali as the speed guy, but then i realised all the other dudes are power punchers, so I need another kind of fighter.

If you're looking for someone different to throw into the game, you can't go wrong with Sonny Liston :hey A guy with power but also the ability to outbox and outthink opponents.

The only problem is there are only three grades of power in the game, 1 (not powerful) 2 (medium) and 3 (powerful). I know all the guys I've mentioned could bang, but if you really had to band them into one of those three groups, which one would you put them in. Like Ali I would put in 1, based on the replies so far, and foreman 3, where do the others guys sit? Did Frazier come close to Foreman's power, or was he way off?
The same 3 categories also apply to speed, like Ali would be in group 3, the fastest. I know Tyson is fast but he would be in group 2, because I am taking into account his reach, which makes him not very good as an outfighter, so his lower speed group means he can't really attempt to compete with Ali on the outside, therefore the player will have to try and work on the inside using hooks an uppercuts, which is what tyson would have done.

How do you figure that Marciano was faster than Frazier? Joe had fast hands and he was virtually impossible to outbox and stay away from.

Hey guys these are the figures I've compiled and they are provisional and can change based on feedback.
POWER: is 1, 2 or 3
SPEED: As above
CHIN: Is out of 10, no one has 10 because all of these fighters have been knocked down
DURABILITY: Based on their stamina and ability to just keep going
HEART: Is out of 12. No one has 12, because that would mean that person would always get up if knocked down.
TECHNIQUE/GENERALSHIP: Is out of 10. This signifies how many cards the player has, thus the higher the number, the more options they have.
Please tell me if you disagree with these things. Tell my WHY, and what you think I should have instead.

How does Frazier have more power than Tyson, Marciano, and Liston? How does Ali have more heart when Marciano got up for a count of 3 for the two times he was dropped. Is it due to the circumstance of who hit him and how big a shot it was? Who the heck are computing all of this? Frazier more technique than Tyson. Frazier more durable than Marciano. Foreman the least most durable on that list? Separate durability & stamina. Durability is the accumulation of shots you can take and keep going. Stamina is endurance.
Categories like durability are tricky because some fighters aren't willing to take the punishment while they're capable. Chin/Durability/Heart intertwine in a way. I'll try my best.

I understand there is a difference between Durability and Stamina but I didn't want to wear down the game with TOO many stats, as it is supposed to rely on the player boxing the right fight given the cards they have and the boxer they are using. The Durability rating decreases as shots are taken, but recovers at the end of the round based on the boxer's heart rating. If the boxers durability reaches zero, they are knocked out/stopped.
Therefore, as Foreman, you would want to try and finish the fight earlier rather than later, so as to not be worn out in the later rounds (like he was against Ali).
Frazier was able to last it out with Ali for into the very late stages of fights, and therefore his durability represents his ability to keep going. However, considering the beating he took agaisnt Foreman, his chin is lower, so if a player is to win with Frazier he needs to try and work his way inside with hooks, and also attempt to finish early. However, he does have a big heart because he does keep getting up.
I admit I don't know much about Liston, though someone did say he was a powerful guy who could also outbox and outthink, therefore I went with a balanced approach, I didn't want to make him too powerful or too quick, so with him it you could adapt depending on your opponents strengths and weaknesses.
These figures need to be tested in game, more than anything I don't want one boxer to be too superior in stats because they will just win all the time regardless of player input then. So basically I need to strike a balance which may not represent true stats of boxers, but which means the player would have most success if they emulated the style of that boxer. Phew. That took a while.

Ok for that matter give Tyson more durability and reduce Foreman's. Liston was a great boxer and awesome puncher. His stamina is in the league of Tyson's and his durability is good. However, Ali had him backup and quitting. Ultimately I don't put too much stock on those fights as they're highly controversial and Liston was past his best days. Liston had a heck of a chin. Arguably the best of that group. He tooks bombs from Cleveland Williams and had that big thick neck. His chin is comparably to the top echeleon in that group. His durability is good, but it's dubious. His heart is also sketchy. He fought on with a broken jaw but quit on his stool against Ali and didn't get up in the second fight. In my eyes he could've gotten up and the Ali fights are strangish. Hope that helps.

Didn't Marty Marshall floor Liston?
