View Full Version : Controlling the backboard on a speed-bag

Is there any way to do this? Whenever I hit the ball hard, it bounces off the backboard and the backboard bounces up in the air. It obviously doesn't provide enough resistance to the ball, meaning you can't build up speed etc. (When I hold the board steady with one hand and hit the ball with the other, it goes a LOT faster.) I've tightened the screws to full capacity. Is there any way of controlling this, or do I just have to get a better frame?

I'm not sure what kind of backboard your using but you could always try putting some weight on top of the backboard to keep it from bouncing when you hit the bag.

Agree with both above....just one thing, watch out that the weight doesn't eventually fall on your head. No joke..I've seen it happen more than a few times...the vibrations usually will shift a weight (not a sandbag).

I put sandbags on it, it was working a treat, and then the frame snapped. :patsch

Sorry mate, guess it was ready to give up the ghost at any moment. :blood

And to wansen, I've had first hand experience with that. :patsch

Yeah, well it was a cheap piece of crap anyway, and I had to try something to get the ball moving a bit quicker lol

I saw (on TV) a gym in Mexico where they just used a 'eye-hook' (a door latch) screwed into a (low) ceiling for a speed-bag mount. Talk about a low-cost solution!

JagOfTroy, ever get out to the Clearwater/Dunedin area? I used to train at the Dunedin Boxing Club...I don't know how you FL. guys deal with that heat...I'd have to bring 5 extra T-Shirts for a 2 hour session.
