View Full Version : Why Is Dana White F@#%ing With Chuck?

Dana White is throwing his weight around again. In this MMAWeekly interview, he lends an almost sympathetic comment about the difficulty Chuck is faced with when deciding whether or not to retire:
“Chuck’s in a very weird political situation right now with a lot of different people. Chuck is such a good guy and such a loyal friend and an amazing person that he doesn’t say no to anybody,” White explained. “I don’t know all the ins and outs of it, but I’m sure enough people around him still need to make some money.”
White’s concluding statement is yet another transparent shot at Liddell’s loyal friend and longtime trainer, John Hackleman of “The Pit” fight team, although this revised version is much more politically correct than his previous statements, which were of the same prototypical and unprofessional vein we’ve come to expect on occasion from White.
Hmmmmm. I wonder why Chuck is in this “weird political situation right now with a lot of different people”? Dana continues:
“Chuck’s all set. He doesn’t need to make any more money. Chuck’s made a lot of money. He’s become very famous and he’s got lots of stuff going on. He’ll always be, as long as I’m alive, he’ll do just fine.”
Kudos to Mr. White for making things easier for Chuck. First lamenting about how Chuck’s in a very difficult political position on his retirement, and then, as the president and voice of the UFC, stating that Chuck “doesn’t need any money” and “is still retired”.
Once, I eagerly opened the refrigerator to satisfy my heroin-like craving for blueberry yogurt, and I was deeply apalled and offended that the yogurt had spoiled into a curdy mess- and no one had taken care of it. “Its so disrespectful when people leave crap like this in here,” I muttered to myself as I placed the spent yogurt back into the refrigerator.
Through all of this media attention, through all of the verbal volleying between White and Hackleman about the status of Chuck’s retirement, both sounding as genuinely distraught as Luke Skywalker when his uncle prevented his trip to Tosche station to score some power converters… we’ve heard no definitive answer from The Iceman himself.
Could we stretch the boundaries of humanity and really think outside the box long enough to actually let the man speak for himself? I would say Chuck has at least earned that one simple right. I don’t need to launch into his impressive record, or cite all of his amazing knockouts over accomplished fighters- any MMA fan knows Chuck Liddell, and what he’s done for the UFC and MMA. I won’t even lend my opinion on whether or not he should retire, because there is one man, and one man only, who should be making that decision.
I will patiently await the decision of Chuck Liddell on his fighting future, and respect his path-forward no matter what the choice.

If Chuck wants to fight he should be allowed.

Who do you think will get the blame if he gets seriously hurt? This may be a case of Dana looking out for Dana rather than Dana looking out for Chuck...

Actually the guy who signed up for the fight and waiving all responsibility of damage received in said fight will get all the blame.
Chuck wants a fight, then let him fight.
Just please take him out of main event status.

The man is giving a friend, honestly probably his best friend in the world at this point, good advice: "stop while your rich, famous, healthy, and a legend"
Chuck fighting is one thing, but he will not accept fights against anybody but guys who are top level, and he will end up like Sakuraba.
So you version of "fucking with" is "Hey, you've got the world by the balls, as long as I am alive you'll never want for money again, lets shut it down"?
He is being as good of a friend as possible.

Imagine if Ali had a Dana in his ear, if Sakuraba did, if Holyfield did?

I can't believe that people are knocking Dana for this. Chuck SELLS HUGE!! Dana doesn't even care about that, and is looking out for Chuck's safety and legacy. That's a fuckin' awesome thing for him to be doing.
Dana could easily try and squeeze every last cent he could make off of Chuck by throwing him into all sorts of match-ups against big name fighters. Clearly Dana's heart is in the right place.

These people are the same dicks who want to keep trotting Tyson or Holyfield out into the ring for their own perverse pleasure. They don't care if Liddell ends up in a coma... sure, they'll come on here afterwards and act like they give a fuck, but they don't.

It's not just that; it's that this snake rattle guy is either a paid viral marketer for affliction ( this does happen quite commenly) or affiliated with them in some way.
I give it like 60-40 odds he is a business tool rather than just a hater.

Wether you or i agree with that is irrelavent. But Dana cannot and should not prevent the man from making a living. Thats simply not his shot to call friend or no friend. The mans a businessman first dont ever forget that. He does whats best for himself.

I believe this is true to some extent.
However, i'd imagine it's also got something to do with Liddell having one fight remaining on his UFC contract.
While Dana stops Liddell from having another fight, he keeps him contracted to the UFC and prevents him from fighting for another organisation, who would use his name recognition to generate significant attention for themselves

I would agree.
He said as long as he is around Chuck will be looked after. Chuck will still be part of MMA but it seems he's lost his sharpness and his whole style was based around that.

He can keep him making a living but stop him from permanant brain damage; he flat out said he would still be paid.
A guy who appears to have had his chin broken and reflexes slowed is a danger to himself if he is fighting, long term brain damage is no joke.
You are contradicting yourself, if he only does what is best for himself he would tell chuck "yea, your fighting Machida for the title" because he is still the single biggest seller in the UFC. What he is doing for is best for Chuck, not Dana.

Pish. Why doesnt he stop Silva Nog or Coleman from fighting? They've got more mileage on them than all the horses in the grand national. Puhlease. Spare me this fortune cookie bullshit. Reckon he'll let Chuck leave (assuming he still wants to fight) for a rival org - Affliction? Nah didnt think so..

Because he isn't best friends with them, he is with Chuck. If you are going to criticize him for an example of his policy with aging fighters, the example to be used is coleman, silva, or nog, not Chuck.
At some point Chuck will either have to retire (likely), fight in the UFC (unlikely if Dana doesn't want it to happen), or have his contract bought, terminated, whatever, and Chuck would go fight somewhere else (highly unlikely).
Fighters are at a huge risk during a normal situation, in a situation like this where the fighter whos game was based on reflexes, not getting hit, and haing a good chin, loses those 3 things, the risk really more a matter of when, not if.
If you were Chucks friend what would you tell him to do?

If you were Chucks friend what would you tell him to do?Whoa so because its his friend that makes it right? What about the welfare of the other fighters eh promotes? So because there not his friend fuck em?? Man Dana's such a nice guy. He sure has his priorities straightened out.
