Kimbo only took weeks of training basics in grappling...He's no MMA fighter.

thanks
Shaun Thompson and Bas Rutten taught him well Kimbos striking even looked improved from his stupid street fight vids.

What are you talking about? It was clearly Kimbo's NCCA champion takedown skills that won it for him ; p

Yeah, I noticed that. After the Muy Thai knees, he put together a decent combo. His punches weren't quite as wide as usual. Bas really did a nice job with him in that short amount of time.

:-( I feel kind of sorry for RAY ! I hope he isnt broke !
Did you see how Ray tried to fight on even after tapping.
Funny shit.
Yea he didn't want to admit he tapped but then thought better, thankfully.

He has been trained very well

More then i expected from the K man.
Ummm Mercer was never an MMA fighter.
He tried to defend himself with a boxing defense in an MMA fight. TERRIBLE.
Again boxing has more limited fighting rules so while a boxer has chances to win via punches the fact is a well trained MMA fighter has more options and it looks more like a regular fight.

Funny shit.
Ray Mercer has become a real life Carl " The Tooth" Williams. Only he is getting his ass beat in 3 sports Boxing, K1, MMA.

Mercer looked disinterested...Never tried to keep Kimbo off of him. Threw only a couple punches, when Kimbo was wide open the whole time they were on the inside. Got taken down by the most pisspoor takedown move I have ever seen. Then tapped out in a matter of milliseconds. Gets right up and looks fine.
One of two things are evident with that absolutely disgraceful display.
1- Ray was just there to get a paycheck
or
2- The fight was fixed all along.
I know #1 to be definate. Two.....definately suspicious.

No version of Mercer would have stood a chance with those rules.
Haha, I loved how everyone on here was cheering for Ray, it's Kimbo's time to earn some bread, good performance by the man, and he even shelled Merceer with some punches early...nice fight (compared to what people were expecting).

3) As a spokesman for the "MMA is not real fighting" crowd, Mercer thought that his boxing skills would dominate an unskilled boxer. But in total Mirko "I don't need to train in a cage to fight UFC" CroCop fashion, he brought a knife to a gun fight and went home empty handed.
Your telling me Ray looked like he was even attempting to put up a fight there? What did he throw 3 punches and get Kimbo into a headlock that he let go of 2 secs later?
It was a disgrace. Ray went to collect a check or he got two checks...one for fighting, one for losing. Again, disgraceful.

The things we do for $$$$ $50,000 is $50,000 I suppose.
MMA is a DIFFERENT GAME!!! Different sport with differnet rules, related in nature perhaps, but very different things none the less. A boxing match would have been more exciting, IMO. But hey, Kimbo actually looked as though he trained seriously and won the MMA fight. Who would have won the boxing match, I wonder?? Mercer looked shot regardless.
If you threw Kimbo in a boxing ring with Klitschko, Peter, Brewster, etc?? He's going to SLEEP:good Conversely, those fighters may not fair so well in an MMA fight.

It looked like Kimbo was the one that wasn't really up for it.

If Mercer would have been trained by Couture or Rutten or someone who's very experienced in MMA , maybe things would have been very different.
The thing is that you can't expect a top striker to KO everyone with ease if takedowns and submissions are involved. It doesn't work like that in real life.
Prime or old version of Mercer ...doesn't matter. You imperatively need some basics in wrestling and submission defense.

Kimbos physice is verry impressive! I think he should try a real boxing match against an yourneyman and lets see if he can do that! He has proven that he can do MMA but can he hang with a pro boxer, even a poor one?? I doubt it! But i would like to see more from Kimbo and i would love to see this Monster to get KOed!

That fight didnt demonstrate wether Mercer was shot or prime. No, it didnt even question that...it just demonstrated how boxing in itself is very limited in MMA rules.
In a boxing match Id predict Mercer to masacre Kimbo inside 3 rounds.

Wait, i thought you could just dance your way out of a takedown with footwork, or at least catch those terrible glass jawed MMA fighters (which Kimbo isn't even that) on the way in, since they are so wild and unskilled and boxing is so perfect for self defense, and the only thing you ever need.
This was clearly a work, all Mercer had to do was circle around with footwork and it would have been over with the first punch landed....right mma haters? Thats all I've been hearing from you, so what now?
Man I thought Kimbo was 50 years old. :patsch

kimbo is actually a really good mma fighter

He looked pretty good there - all credit to him. Of course Mercer looked like he either didn't have a clue on the ground or was disinterested.

Ray was very stupid. Kimbo showed he would go to the ground yet when they started boxing Ray just stood there.

Years ago, the pro wrestling ring was a place where 40 or 50 year old desperate broke boxers would end up, and it was sad situation.
Nowadays, it's the MMA cage hexagon.
It's undignified seeing a former Olympic gold medalist and former top heavyweight boxer being mauled and choked by a pumped-up street fighter.
Good luck to Kimbo - he's living the dream. He's never gonna be a true champ at anything though, I hope everyone understands that.
thanks for the thought of the day, the whole point was to show how even a street fighter would even beat up a boxer
