I know there hardly anything about Carlos monzon to read so im trying to make a very long article about him and put it up on here

so far heres what i have done for an Intro, need feed back though

Carlos Monzon

The icy cold stare of the ex-Middleweight Champion of the World released no emotion. His face was that of a killer - expressionless but determined. His high cheekbones and dark hair gave of an attractive look but also aided in making him look expressionless even scary but it added to the intricate intrigue and mystery which was Monzon.

In the ring Monzon always kept that expressionless stare at his opponent. That expression never changed as he looked through an oppnent, he was always relaxed. He was like a machine. His style reflected this as he was cold, calcualting and ruthless. In a style which was built around efficiency over aesthetics.

Monzon has become a very alluring figure for fight fans. Fans appreciate his genius fighting style with his subtle but brilliant skills, that of which has never been seen before. But he is more than just the fighter he exudes a sense of coldness but confidence. He has become almost a cult hero - part of it being for the wrong reasons - he is the ultimate 'bad ass'.

The Carlos Monzon story is an intriguing one, as the man was a mass of contradictions and an enigma to figure out.

A good interview, it wasn't that long after the Hagler-Leonard fight. He mentions that he thought Hagler won.

Monzon had that Indian blood in him, and looked cold, cruel and expressionless. He wasn't a warm, lovable "fuzzball" like Duran and he sure didn't seem to care, either. He's got to be the most mysterious great champion of my lifetime. I can't understand why some Latin writer or filmmaker, especially an Argentine, hasn't already made a movie or written a bio on him, as he's a fascinating character to me, and his ring accomplishments are truly unique, if you ask me, in retiring as champion, reversing his only three defeats and never being stopped.

I thought that I would paste up the S.I. article on the Monzon-Napoles fight, even though this isn't exactly the thread for it...

The old Boxing Illustrated mag in the 70's had some excellent articles and interviews on Monzon, as did some long defunct magazines I can't even remember the names of, that did p4p rankings of all the champions of the time periodically, and nearly always had Monzon at #1...ahhh, the 70's..what a decade.

Probably. Not a very nice man.

But still one of my very favourite boxers nonetheless. A real scary fighter, not like Mike Tyson. This one was a pimp, a hooligan, a swatter of reporters, a murderer, a gunshot victim and the best middleweight of all time. And he wouldn't knock you out quick; he'd blankly stare at you as you were broken down round-by-round.

Always thought that there was something almost reptilian about Monzon's style,,,without a doubt the greatest middleweight of history. A murderer, a cruel s.o.b., but one of the greatest fighters of all time, easily.

Look forward to an enjoyable read, Gpater.

Here's a nice little exert of info from NY times following the crash that killed him.

"Before he became a boxer, Monzon rose from humble beginnings as one of 12 children in Santa Fe. He shined shoes, sold newspapers and lugged sides of beef in a meat-packing plant."
