....who would be the ONE boxer who would win irregardless of weight class or era.
That person would be the P4P champion.

P4P...perhaps Sugar Ray Robinson, Pernell Whitaker, or Roy Jones Jr. But there are so many great fighters like Duran, Ali, Louis, Armstrong, Benny Leonard, SR Leonard, Charles, Greb, Moore, Pep, Gans, Hagler, Hearns, etc who you couldn't count out.

If this was a P4P tournament, everyone the same size, I'll take Greb.

I wouldn't doubt Greb could win this, but I haven't seen enough of him on film to give a bold prediction. Just based on his resume and the wins over fighters we do have footage of, I'd say your pick is an excellent choice.

Based on what I've heard of his style, and how he matched up well with all styles, and how his style was impossible to really get a feel for, this is why I say him.

He was a super fast in and out swarmer in the Calzaghe mold who had a GRANITE chin and who had un-ending stamina and coul take anything you dished out and wear down anyone. The sheer volume of punches, the dirty tactics to hurt you, the roughness, toughness, and strength on the inside, and the speed to overwhelm anyone he faced. Hard to pick against that style.

(1) Though I'm positive if Amsterdam or MSTR someone like that comes in here we will get a different opinion.

(1) Do you mean the "older fighters were too primative and unskilled" argument?

You've probably seen these, but here are some good quotes about his style and ability for anybody who is interested...

"Greb would swarm over his opponents with his blazing fast hands while throwing punches from all anglesm" Veteran fight manager Dan Morgan said, “He threw so many punches that the breeze from his misses gave opponents pneumonia. He tossed leather from all directions in fusillades, barrages, salvo’s, and volleys. Naturally being so fast and throwing so many punches he was not a knocker-outer. To shoot a real shock punch a fighter must get set, be more or less stationary for a fraction of a second. Greb was never still in the ring, so most of his knockouts were of the TKO variety.”

"Fighting Greb was like fighting a man with eight arms. “He was never in one spot for more than half a second,” said Gene Tunney

"Greb threw so many punches, from so many angles and for so many hits that he would have drove today’s “punch stat” counters crazy."

"Harry had the proven tough chin needed to absorb the heavy punch of much larger men. In around 300 professional fights, which included dozens of bouts against heavyweights, he was stopped only twice, once in his first year of fighting, and once when he broke his forearm throwing a punch at Kid Graves."

"Harry Greb was the ultimate aggressive swarming style fighter, only Henry Armstrong can compare to him in terms of the volumes of punches he threw and the killing pace that he set. Not even Armstrong can compare to Greb in terms of his speed, maneuverability and durability. Greb’s perpetual motion fighting made him as dominant as any fighter who ever lived and his awesome record is virtually unmatched in the annals of boxing history."

I actually think that P4P, if both were the same dimension types... that Mayweather would beat tyson, i think tyson would have a hard time landing his hooks like he likes... and would be outmanovered....

I still think someone like Raf, Vasquez, Duran, ect, someone like that would be the best... if all were equal... SRL, Hagler, ect.

Think of the possibilites:

Robinson v. Louis
Robinson v. Ali
Ali v. Louis
Tyson v. Ali
Toney v. a bunch of people at different weights.
Hearns, Duran, Pep...man you'd have to have 100 tournaments to get everyone to fight everyone.

If weight didnt matter, i couldnt disagree with that.

But if weight matters...It has to be a HW regardless. So i'll say Lennox Lewis, or Tyson..

Pernell is my number 1 though :bbb

Would the ultimate winner be either Tyson or Dempsey?

I guess a lot of people think Ali would lose to Tyson...

A lot of people feel the opposite as well.

You think Rafa or Vasquez would be better than all the Greats?this is kirk, logged on with mundos computer and automatically had me in as him so sorry ;)

no not all sweet pea... but that brings up another points,

i think whitaker would beat a lot of the greats too (even though he IS great)

but i think the greats a lot of us think of in terms of heavyweights, like foreman, rocky, tyson, ect, would be beat by the little great guys who are supremely skilled AND supremely talented.

Imo... id take Raf over foreman, rocky, frazier, james toney, hopkins,

if they were the same weight naturally...

ok maybe not take him OVER them, but someone like duran, whit, ect, i would...
