Good to see Geale isn't sitting on his hands waiting for you-know-who to decide what he's doing about the IBO mandatory.
Also great for Tassie if they can get a good bout set for over there.

Lyell had a ko win yesterday against an opponent with a very modest record.

Billy Lyell of course recently inflicted John Duddy's first defeat in what was being described for Duddy as 'a tune-up fight against a little known opponent'.
He conceded height, reach and weight against Duddy, but just kept forcing Duddy back with sheer persistance. His bent nose and bleeding eyes were testiment to his determination.
Lyell is trained by Jack Loew, who also trains Kelly Pavlik.
Billy Lyell, who is ranked 12 by the IBF, should provide Geale, ranked 6 by the same organisation, with a good contest IMO.
With Abraham likely to vacate while he's off doing the Showtime tournament there could be some possibilities in this organisation for Geale provided he gets past Lyell.

Big wrap on Duddy until he got beaten......Geale will have his hands full with this fight.....if it happens....I thought someone said on the main forum Billy was fighting another guy this month :huh

Lyell apparently beat a guy called Chris Overbey last friday, and BoxRec have him listed for a bout against an unknown opponent in the US in about 3 weeks time.
Perhaps the Lyell bout with Geale isn't as done a deal like we'd been led to believe?
Makes more sense to get the mandatory done with now anyway. What benefit to either fighter are additional fights, when both guys have held the title before anyway, and there's unfinished business?

Look for Geale and Mundine to take a "keep warm" fight before they go round again early next year......also Alan Green VS Bika looks like its half a chance so no Mundine VS Bika.

Commercially I think they are crazy. The public interest is there right now for the rematch.
If the Green vs RJJ thing comes off it'll put everything else in the background for sometime, and by next year most fringe fight fans will have forgotten Geale v Mundine I.

Tend to agree and the making of this fight on paper should be within 6 weeks...so all good.
It was a great plan for Geale VS ??? and Mundine VS ??? on the same card in October and at the same time promote the rematch....dont know whats going on ATM. :conf....I thought Mundine had a fight in the states next :huh

No. Kelly won't come to Australia. You would have to offer him $4 million USD to come to Ausralia (my educated guess, in no way should be quoted, just an opinion).
Jack Leow trains Pavlik, him being in Australia will help them nut out deals with a fight with Mundine. Mundine at the moment is very hard to read or figure out what hes doing. Before the bicep injury he had lined up D Miranda to fight him in Australia. And before the eye injury he had made an offer of $100 000 to bring Manfredo to Australia. Im sure you can find reports about this on the net if you search hard enough. And then word around is, from Australian guys in the know, promoters etc etc. Is that he has made contact with Top rank on multiple occassions trying to nut out a deal.
And then we see all the talk about Medley. I think Mundine has made the choice that hes going to need a stand up straight puncher to make his US debut. Or his debut against a US fighter. Hes not going to mess around with guys that are fast or have decent skills. Instead hes going to target Pavlik and Andrade if he wins his bout against Bute. From what is going around.
Whats also interesting is Lyell is a growing name in the US. Geale will get a lot of recognition if he beats him. All Mundine would have had to do was fight a fading Winky Wright, or line up another contender, a US based contender. And the US attention he would get would be crazy (2 Americans on the same card, agaisnt top genuine top 10 Mids). Make no doubt about it, guys like David Lopez and Karmazin would struggle to win a round against Mundine. So its not really big risk. But maybe they don't fall into the classifcation of straight walk up fighters, aka Danny Green.

Judging only on what I saw in Lyell vs Duddy, Lyell is a crowd pleaser. More courage than sense - more warrior than stylist. Appears to only know one way -forward.
He just persisited and persisted, and was more desperate to win than was Duddy.
If the above is a fair assessment, Lyell could give Geale hell should they meet, though Geale would appear to be a class above in terms of ability and technique.
Not sure if Geale vs Lyell has actually been set yet? The talk a week or so ago was that it'd be a done deal within about 48 hours.

How loud is the drum beat on that one MM??
I guess Taylor has the IBF Pan Pac super middle title that he picked up last start to 'bargain with', but surely Gealie would want it at middle not super middle.
