View Full Version : Junior Witter was right...
Dunky McCafferty

Heres Junior's comments on the Hatton-Castillo fight 24 hours before the fight happened...
"I dont see it as much of a fight, to be honest. Castillo is going to struggle at his new weight & i think his best days are behind him.
"I see this like Lennox lewis v Mike Tyson a few years back. It would have been great two years earlier- & this is the same"
& How right Witter was. What an awful fight, both Hatton & Castillo happy to grab & hold & fight dirty, & then Ricky lands a left hook to the body, Castillo turns around, walks away & then goes on one knee & takes the full count, when it was obvious he could have continued. Castillo only there for the payday, & what a waste of time that fight was. Even paul Dempsey was apologetic afterwards to the paying customers.
Of course the legions of Hatton nuthuggers will be over the 'blue' moon, but that win dont impress me much.
Next for Ricky, an MBE & hall of fame. I give Hatton credit for that, hes got a sharp business brain. Maximum profit, minimum risk. hes a hero cos he has popped off a couple of old timers with big reputations from former glories when in their prime.
Even Bob Arum was going on about how Ricky couldnt lose before the fight, & when Hatton gives up a belt to fight someone, you know theres something fishy going on.
& thank fuck for Max Kellerman. Told it how it was, but we couldnt get to hear him cos Setanta decided to give us the usual suspects instead...
But I dont want to rain on Rickys parade, cos that would be out of character for me. So have a whale of a time, & dont mind me.

He won the fight and for that he should get some credit. However I am not going over the top as their is some validity to Witter comments. To prove himself the best of his era then he needs to take care of Witter and sort out this domestic issue. There is no excuse really. Then he needs to fight the younger fighters like himself at their peak such as Cotto, PBF, Malignaggi, Ajose, Margarito and co then we can determine his true standing. Not sure that beating a 33year old Castillo makes him an all time great however he has a chance to achieve greatness.
There was nothing wrong with this fight, the KO or the oponent.
This blind hate of all things English is getting embarrasing.

Hatton is a class act in and out of the ring - although I didnt like his seemingly innocent friendship with late racist Bernrd Manning.
Good win against Castillo but it wont secure his legacy as they will always be question marks over the Mexicana's form.
For me he has to beat Witter and may be Malignalli, then move up full time to 147, and fight Cotto/Margarito/PBF/Mosely

it's so predictable the dissing.i'm not getting carried away,i still don't think he beats mayweather, cotto,de la hoya or mosley but he deserves credit for disposing of castillo in the way he did.castillo actually fought well and showed enough in there to suggest he was no shop worn fighter.to take him out with one body shot like that was mighty impressive.

Old, exciting, elite Hatton is no longer a distant memory. It would be a shame if he blew up too much having been in such good shape last night. What Hatton would do to Witter doesn't bear thinking about, even if Witter trained like a demon and fought southpaw he'd still be fucked. Witter isn't even a real titlist he should just be resigned to living in Ricky's shadow.

Hatton genuinely doesn't like Witter. I believe him now. He won't fight him because he doesn't want him to get paid. They showed it in the documentary pre fight. He hates that Witter uses his name for publicity. Hatton doesn't like talkers, he likes old school warriors.
I want to see Hatton v Witter in the UK. Add the WBC belt to his collection and finish Junior off.

Oh dear. I see there are a few in here with the 'Dunky hates Hatton cos Hattons english'
I have explained many times my reasons for hating hatton on this forum, & none are because he is english. Cant Hatton fans just accept not everybody in the world loves him like you all do?
It seems that 'normal' posters who I can have a bit of banter with turn into savage drooling bloodthirsty lunatics when I dare criticize Hatton, Hatton mania on here is worse than Beatlemania was in its heyday.
But you dont frighten me with your bile Hatton nuthuggers:D
I must admit though, the sheer amount of hatton nuthuggers kicking around makes me wonder if it is even worthwhile arguing about hatton anymore, I dont know if I can be arsed arguing with 20 people at one time, just cos I tell the truth about Ricky. Reason being only 10% of Hatton nuthuggers know their boxing, & my time is too precious to argue with dumb Hatton fans who refuse to listen to my valid & dare I say it, cutting points.
At least Junior Witter & Max Kellerman tell it like it is. So there is still hope that the world hasnt gone totally mad I suppose.

You show your ignorance. Ajose has not only won the Light Welterweight Commonwealth title he has knocked out Bradley Pryce and Ali Nuumbembee the current Commonwealth champions at the higher weight divisions of Light Middleweight and Welterweight. Furthermore he is the reigning African Boxing Union (ABU) champion at Light Welterweight. He knocked out the much more Martin Holgate as a novice professional and retired him. The chap he beat to win the African title went the distance subsequently with the hard hitting Middleweight Gary Lockett.
If he is so lackluster I hope Hatton and the rest take up Frank Maloney's challenge to face Ajose as we would gladly relieve both Hatton and Witter of their titles.
Ajose was a world class amateur who won many international honours, went to the Sydney Olympics and won the All African Games gold medal. He has not had a smooth ride because he has been avoided by many in Britain including Hatton, Witter & co.

Look, I have had my arguments with Olu in the past, cos hes a passionate believer in Oluseguns abilities, & of course he thinks Ajose ould beat Anderson, I of course disagree cos I always disagree with anyone who thinks the scottish guy wont win:D

I hear you Gaz, but at the same time Hatton has fought some opponents as title defences that I would consider poorer fighters than Olusegun. I know theres all the big talk of Mayweather, Cotto etc just now, but there always is after a Hatton win, & they never materialise for one reason or another. So is it so out of this world for Olusegun to hope to get a crack at Hatton next? If the big fights dont happen, & hatton still refuses to fight Witter, then I think a fight with Olusegun would be much more appetising than a fight against a Collazo or 'no joke' Stewart.
I know the Olusegun fight wont happen, but there is every chance Hatton is going to take an easy fight next. hes done it before when the defining fights were expected... & then, I bet some here will be saying, "You know, I would have preferred Hatton to have fought an up & comer like Olusegun instead of this guy" if Hatton takes on another meaningless fight.
Of course I could be totally wrong gaz as I have said before & Hatton shocks me with a 'biggie' however, only time will tell...

Theres loads of ways to look at this isn't there? To me, champions taking 'easy fights' don't take on the hungry young fighters on the way up, they take 'names' on the way down. So sometimes an Olusegun won't get the same opportunity as a Tackie...its not right but thats the way it is.
Olusegun is WAY off Hattons and Witters radar and I'm not sure what he can do to tempt a 'name' 140 lber to fight him...but thats what he needs to do. Otherwise Hatton fighting him is a lose-lose for Hatton and a poor payday to boot.

As Olusegun is now way up the WBC ratings he will fight his way into the mandatory spot and then take out the champion be it Junior Witter or Vivian Harris. Witter was ordered to defend the Commonwealth title against Ajose a couple of yeras back and he choose to vacate. Of course he did not vacate when he could defend his titles against the likes of Colin Lynes.
As for Hatton I don't disrespect him but I know that like night follows day he is ready made to order for Ajose.

Being a good amatuer does not make you a good pro, ask A-Force.
Yeah and he knocked out a weight drained Ali who had a lack of preparation and had to make Welter at short notice.
The guys you mention aren't exactly world class like Witter.
I'd like to know how giving up the domestic belts for a world one Is considered ducking?
Who the hells Martin Holgate? He looks like he had your average journymen record.
Ajose even if he goes to world level Is not ready for Witter or Hatton. People probably buy Into Baloney's hype.

So have a whale of a time, & dont mind me.
i said the same thing. it was obvious for everyone who knows boxing. castillo went life and death with some obscure guy from camaroon. go figure..........

Ali Nuubembee is a Welterweight hence all he was asked to do was come in at the Welterweight limit which he did. I don't remember any comments when as a last minute substitute he gave David Barnes hell. He had the weight advantage over Ajose but Ajose took him apart showing that he can beat bigger and supposedly stronger men somethinh he has been doing for years. Look at his record and see how many times he has had to beat guys in higher weight divisions. Ajose has been ready for Witter and Hatton for years. He is now well up the WBC ratings so we will not be denied.

Realistically, Ajose will never get a shot against Hatton, he'll just have to wait for the star of the next generation. There is a little hope of a Witter fight at least a few years down the line though.
How do you rate Joe Calzaghe mate?
I think Joe Calzaghe has to be respected. I really do. I am not his biggest fan and frankly it had got to the stage where it was difficult to give a damn about his career then the Lacy fight happened. He is now 35 so time is running out so I hope he takes care of Kessler, Froch and fight for the Light heavyweight title before his time is out. I think the Kessler fight is a tough one but Calzaghe has a belatedly opportunity to be arguably the greatest brit of all time.
