This might be a surprise to low brow knuckle dragging NRL supporters but to sophisticated AFL followers we expect this.
After all AFL is the most popular of the 2 codes by a margin of almost double when it comes to attendence and tv viewers.
Why would you not try your hand in the most celebrated ball sport in the country.
Good luck to Hunt and all of the other League players who decide to swap to the ultimate football code in the counrty!

What sort of money will he earn when he is completely unproven at the sport. It's not like league to union where there are obvious similarities. Maybe he played the sport as a kid but that is a long long way short of the AFL.

im sure vfl has some fancy pants players that would get murdered in league, and also have some so called tough cunts that think they can make in league and get smashed...barry hall being one of them.

I think he has a chance to make it.
Theres how many Irish players that have tranformed into AFL players.
Plus i think most are forgetting as a youngster he was scouted by the AFL as he played both codes.
He will get payed more so i can blame him and i think he felt there wasnt much chance of him getting back in the Aussie squad and really he didnt have much more to prove as a League player.
I know a lot fellas in here are just League fans but i can see him doing ok.
There was a bloke from my town that had played junior Volleyball for Australia. They put him in a Aussie Rules jumper for two years as a junior and he was drafted by StKilda.
The game has changed in AFL. Today you need talent, speed and Stamina.
Thats about it. Dean Brogan that plays for Port Adelaide won a NBL title with the 36ers and then they put as a Ruckman and look at him today. Making a heap more cash.
I'd like to know his contract with Brisbane if he accepted 1 mill over 3 years.
It means he was probably getting 100 to 150k less a year playing his preferred game.
I love both codes but fellas league is a danger unless they do something and fast.

I disagree. It's said all the time, but all statistics point to this not being the case. It's just a constant media bash-a-thon with league.
League has continued to get stronger over the last few years and will hold QLD and NSW for many years to come.

I'd like to know his contract with Brisbane if he accepted 1 mill over 3 years.
I heard he recently turned down a $300,000 per year deal with the Bronco's.
It's going to be a tough transition as both sports have very little in common with another. If he can't kick the ball on the run, and during play, then he's fucked. Aside from that, he'll have to learn to do a crank up his stamina, as he'll be doing a lot more running, and a lot of it will be in sudden spurts.
1 million a year for 3 years?! Wow. Thats just crazy.
Still, I hope he goes well, but I have my douts that he'll make it. I heard earlier on that he's only played the game at schoolboy level. Are you sure he was being scouted by the AFL earlier on Boppa?
I've also heard that he's become disillusioned with league, and apart from doing video sessions at training, he'll never even watch it.
A ballsy challenge, and I hope it goes well for him.

It's a tough one. No doubt the large exodus of players over the years is a concern, but if the salary cap increases teams just wont be able to stay afloat.
Players have found out that theres more options out there (UK league, European Rugby, Japanese rugby, and in this case, AFL).
In some cases, players leave the NRL to simply take up another challenge, but in most cases, it's for the money. To put it simply, there needs to be more money going around in league in order for clubs to be able to handle a salary cap increase.
Still, all thats probably exempt in this case as Karmichael was apparently losing interest in league.

Just to fill you in, the NRL is not a code, it's a competition. Rugby League is the name of the sport, and although the AFL is more supported than the NRL, theres probably more people in the world who care more about league than Aussie Rules.
Although the league World Cup was a bit of a joke, the game is still played internationally, and gets well supported over in England.

The NRL and Super League crowd averages combined, are still around 12,000 short of an average AFL crowd, so that could be debated.

Theres a lot of 'stay at home fans' in the NRL, or perhaps it's just a NSW thing seeing as how Sydney FC fail to draw in big crowds, even when they won the league they still struggled to bring in crowds.
I just think that worldwide theres more people either playing league or supporting it than there is with Aussie Rules.
I'm not trying to have a bash at AFL. I understand it's a comp thats supported a lot, and had I have been born in Melbourne with my parents drumming it into me when I was little, I'd probably be supporting it very passionately.
I also played it during PE in high school and it was a very fun game to play.
I'm not the kind of person who can just pick a team and support them very passionately, I need some kind of link to them or something.
I'm a massive football (soccer) fan yet can't really get up for Sydney FC in the A-League as much as I'd like to. It just kinda feels weird.

I went to see the Storm beat the Rabitohs at Challenge Stadium here in Perth a month back....how is it WA can pull a crowd of 20,000 and where it is revered an average turn out is approximatley 17,000 per game year round? That is 20,000 less than the AFL average (38,000 as in [Only registered and activated users can see links] ([Only registered and activated users can see links])) per game year round!
What is it with QLD's & NSW's supporters not getting out to support thier teams...??

The NRL has a real battle on its hands. They are losing players at a rate of knots. They better do something about it real quick , otherwise this problem is going to spiral out of control, and in the end there will be no NRL. Also the quality of the game is being eroded due to the mass exodus of talented players.

we all know victorians have a herd mentality. like cattle, when they see a line forming, they join it. when the line moves, they move with it.
the only reason they form such big crowds is that they lack individual thought. so how does that qualify them as a judge of any sport?

What is it with QLD's & NSW's supporters not getting out to support thier teams...??Heh, I don't really know mate. Brisbane get fairly good crowds, they usually average between 25 - 35 thousand per game. Melbourne Storm should really be getting a lot more crowds, they've pretty much had a winning team from the word go, but the locals are just struggling to embrace league, though they do turn up to the events, like state of origin, etc.
As for Sydney, well I know for a fact that Souths have a very big fan base. 80,000 people marched in Sydney to protest their expulsion back in 1999. Unfortunately many of those people fail to get to the games week in, week out. I myself would fall into that category.
When I first moved to Sydney I used to go to all the home games, but later on I only really went to Sunday games, as I didn't like going to the Sat night games before I went to work.
The bottom line is that the AFL has a more passionate supporter base, and is more national than league is. It's also run by better officials too. League has really dropped the ball in the last 20 years, and many people just don't give a shit anymore.

Karmichael Hunt is a very good rugby league player giving 1oo% effort every game. A tough durable , courageous 80 minute player. Not like some of the half a game prima donnas going around at the moment.
Will he succeed at AFL ? No doubt about it.

1 Million over 3 years. You really have no clue about how much money the Gold Coast outfit will be able to throw around.
Just think they targeted Gary Ablett Jr aswell as Nick Reiwoldt. But came up empty. They will have money to splash.
Here are some numbers.
Hunt making $333,000 a year is not that big of deal.
310 players in the AFL make between $100,000 to $300,000 a Year.
There are only 28 players in the League that make over $500,000 and 2 of them make 1 million dollars a year. Those being Chris Judd and Jonathon Brown.
$330,000 is nothing really.

Boppa it's suppose to be $3 million over 3 yearsThere you go it could be that. Because when a new team comes into the league they dont have a salary cap.
Theres a article here in the cuorier mail that says his contract is exempt from the salary cap.
So if it is 3 mill over 3 years who could blame him. I know he had a session with Nathan Buckley to see if he would be good enough and Hunt passed it.
So he will get a million dollars for playing AFL.
Were the Broncos offered him a $300,000 a year and you said the game isnt in trouble from other codes.

I know I am a staunch league fan but I don't think I'm being optimistic by saying that the game is firmly entrenched in NSW and QLD.

I dont know why your angry at the Vic, they arent the one who
poached Hunt from the NRL - that was QLD!!
Victoria as a state are fully behind both codes, the AFL footy show
often have Storm players on and try get viewers to get behind their
NRL side, other states play them off of each other.
If Vics lack individual thought, then how does this explain the fact
that the AFL (which formed in Vic and used to be called VFL) is run
far far smoother than the NRL (which formed in NSW or QLD) which
is in tatters and falling to pieces.
