A fighter moving up and down in weight=HOW IMPORTANT OF A FACTOR IS THAT??

this is a topic i go back and fourth on.......

Some people say its extremely important, and it seems that for some fighters it isnt...

I remember thinking when Mosley was gonna fight DLH1 the first time.."Mosleys too small"..."He wont have the power to earn Oscar respect"...etc etc....so he jumped up 2 weights and as well all know did very well..

Mayweather has also fought in Several weights over his career...he recently jumped to 154 and got a win over OScar......

Hopkins jumped to 175 beat Tarver, and can probably go back down to 160 if he wants too....

But then you have other fighters where you see them simply moving up 1 weight and they dont do very well...the opponents take their punches easily, they dont bring up their power with them, they are slower...

some people argue that moving up in weight is an extremely important factor(new weight for a fighter, opponents are bigger, stronger, take better punches)

then other fans dont think its as big of a feel to move up a division or 2.....ive seen it be a big deal for some fighters, and other fighters take it in stride...

basically how can some fighters fight in several weights with success??? and some fighters cannot??

Why is moving up in weight no that big of a deal to some??

and moving up in weight is a BAD Decision for others??

Your thoughts??

I think its a big factor ..I mean Hopkins was able to carry more power ,Trinidad when he moved up to 154 was able to take a better punch ..Look how Cotto has looked at 147 ..I think it depends on the fighter ..I mean Mosley looked bad at 154 so for him a move back down benifited him more ..

Mayweather weighed 150 in the DLH fight and has til december to get to 147. Thats nothing, Mayweather stays in shape and 3 pounds wont be anything. He will be strong at the weight.

Yeah i know maywether is gifted in the genetics department and works hard...but if hes weighing in at 150 perfectly hydrated, that tells me if he wanted to he can fight as low as 135 if he wants too......at 154, hes fighting guys much bigger than him naturally....hes just so skilled, he can overcome the physical size factor IMO

It isn't just his genetics. He trains like few other athletes in history can claim to.

I'm not a fan of weight draining to get into lower weight classes. I would love them to go to same-day weigh-ins.

Its partially his genetics....hes a gifted athlete...want proof..?? lets u and me train like he does, and see if we are as good....he has boxing in his bloodline...he does work hard...but he also has good genetics!.....you cant work hard to become a great athlete...if your not athletic at all......part working hard/part genetics.....
