Kelly Pavlik vs Nigel Benn

Forgive me if this has been done, I've been away for awhile.

Pavlik is resilient, has a good chin, and is an imposing offensive machine. Pavlik has also been hurt by punchers with less power than Benn, but let us remember he did walk right through Miranda.

Nigel Benn is one fighter that Pavlik would not carry a strength advantage over. Benn has been stopped in his career, but keep in mind the will he showed against McClellan.

Who takes it, and how?

Benn sparks him, early. Pavlik is way too slow, open, and one dimensional to withstand the early Benn onslaught. Not to say Benn wasn't one dimensional himself, but Nigel was simply better in that one dimension than Pavlik is in his. Make sense? :?

I somewhat agree this is no easy fight for Benn. He was short and sloppy, and Pavlik throws a real nice one two. Benns tough as nails, but its not an easy fight. Pavlik is just as tough, and Benn was never the technician of a Bernard Hopkins or even James Taylor for that matter. I say its a pickem fight, and I would lean towards Pavlik because of his height and his nice straight righthand.

Pavlik has a good chin. I dont think Benn fights as smart as a Bernard Hopkins, and more like Pavlik really, with a good offensive game. Pavliks reach and righthand would do some damage to the dark destroyer.

Pavlik is a good, basic but solid pro who gets a bit of flak on the forums but Benn is too fast with his hands and too fluid in his movement. Basically a much better athlete. He'd have no problem landing to KP's chin or body and Pavlik certainly has never faced a fighter with that sort of intensity before.
Benn could be careless but it was awkward types and boxers who would give him trouble. Not straitforward types like Pavlik.

True, especially since Taylor isn't a monster puncher and yet he came close to KO'ing Pavlik. Benn WAS a monster puncher at 160 and while he was not Bernard Hopkins he was an accurate and fast puncher.

None IMO. Chin is about equal, but I'd say Benn has better powers of recovery. Can't imgine Pavlik lasting two seconds with G-Man at 168. Pavlik goes down, gets up and clears his head but in the Hopkins fight he seemed unwilling to fire back.

As it's at 160 I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he comes back a la Taylor. Unlike Taylor, benn would finish him, in the 2nd. I wouldn't be surprised if the Dark Destroyer overwhelms Pavlik in the 1st.

benn is gettign underated in his boxing skills....he is a good counterpuncher...he just mixed it up with swarming.


also his shoulder roll he developed later in his career gave him a back foot to use. the counter right hand he used against dan sherry was a peach...he may be aggressive but he wasnt defenceless.

pavlik i think could corner him but would miss alot he has the power to drop but i dont know if he has enough to finish him. benn was a survivor. always stopped on his feet.

benn coudl land a right cross left hook then a flurry and be out on his feet.
