Ali - Norton II
1 10-9
2 10-9
3 10-9

8 9-10
9 9-10
10 9-10
11 9-10
12 10-9
112-116 Norton
Would you consider it a robbery? Anybody had Ali winning? There were some close rounds (2, 3 to Ali and 6, 10, 11 to Norton) but I think that giving the win to Ali is very generous

I still feel Ali won this one. It was the last round that decided the fight,in fact this was my favourite bout in the trilogy. Both guys were on top form and firing on all cylinders. Ali may have not been at his all time best, but he was at his 70's best. IMO. The same applies to Quarry 2 Frazier 2 and the George Foreman fight. Ken Norton proved that he had definitely arrived.

Even if I would give close rounds 10 and 11 to Ali (which were Norton's on my card) it would be a draw. For me, Kenny didn't lost that fight.
# Unofficial UPI scorecard - 9-2 Ali
# Unofficial LB Independent scorecard - 8-4 Ali

This was an Ali win, he might not have won fights 1 & 3 but its being over generous to give Norton this 2nd fight, Ali swept the 1st 5 rds & won the 12th rd big, every other rd was very close except rd 7 (I think) which was won by Kenny.
I believe I gave Ali 7 or 8 rds in this one but I`ll try & watch the fight soon to get my exact scorecard, I used to know it in my head but its been a while & I cant remember who I gave rds 6,8,9,10 & 11, I have the fight at home.... I`ll be back.

I agree with this post MUCH more than any other so far in this thread, its the most accurate... I had Ali in a slight lead going into the 12th & if Norton had won that one, a draw could have been argued but Ali showed that fine line between very good & great that helped him to separate himself from Kenny by winning the rd big, he turned it on like a champion, some of his combinations were smooth as butter, he borderline outclassed Kenny.... Ali deserved that win, the decision was correct... the only thing that was wrong was the fact it wasnt a UD.

Ali swept the 1st 5 rds
I had it 3:0 Ali and then Norton makes the bout close 3:2. 12th is no doubt Ali's

I agree with you. I thought Ali won this fight. I had him ahead by 1-2 rounds, but it was a close, tight fight. The 1967 Ali would have been able to keep up the fast, speedy pace that the '73 Ali set over the first 4-5 rounds and won a comfortable decision. But this Ali was still a very good fighter, but he was a notch below prime Ali. This version of Ali would have been a tough fight for '78 Holmes in my opinion.

In the same frame of mind and physical condition,I think he would have pipped '78 Holmes.

Always amuses me how some people cannot post anything on Ali without mentioning "...the 1967 version" as if you'll be struck down by Allah if you don't show some kind of penance when admitting you scored him the loser in a fight way past his prime.
"What was you card for Ali-Berbick?"
"Well, before I tell you let me first say that the 67 version would win easily..."

Good one, although I have hasten to add that he didn't complain when Angelo Dundee referred to him as "Clay" many times to the press in the lead up to the Jimmy Ellis fight in 1971. ;)

I do n't think he minded per se unless he thought somebody was calling him that to wind him up. I always liked the name Cassius Clay, though.

I doubt he was ever bothered, he just had to pretend he was, being one of their 'puppet people' and all.

I usually do watch with the sound but I actually feel that Pacheco cunt is terribly biased in favour of Ali & I didnt want his irritating voice in my ear when scoring the fight.
I did feel that rd 5 was the beginning of Ken`s comeback but I felt that Ali controlled the majority of that rd with his jab alone (same as the first 4 rds) & even when Ken forced him to fight, Ali landed plenty of his own to keep his early lead, close rd tho.
Rd 6 was hard to split IMO, each man continually answered the other but Ken had succeeded in making Ali `fight` him.... rd 7 was a big Norton rd... rd 8 was a rd Ali had in the bag thru the first 2 mins but took some big bombs in the last minute, quality over quantity, Nortons rd.
9 & 10 were close with Ali landing more in both rds, only difference was he took too many quality hard shots in rd 10, he didnt take that many in rd 9... rd 9 to Ali & rd 10 to Kenny.
Rd 11 was a big Norton rd, he landed some big bombs & looked the stronger man, his best rd since rd 7.
Rd 12 was Ali`s best rd, he sealed the deal with beautiful combinations throughout in that rd, no doubt who won that one.
Ps. in a fight with close rds, you will always get contrasting scorecards, I did feel Ali deserved this fight tho, especially by closing the show big in the 12th.

The irony of it all was that he had more white people in his entourage than virtually any other black champion. Ali,himself admitted this a few years back.

Champions forever is a good vid, superbouts has too many incomplete fights for my liking, I prefer full fights.
