I dont know much about him but i keep hearing he has elite boxing skills and an impressive jab. Among the UFC, who boxes better and do you think he is good enough to box professionally and compete at a high level? (No im not starting a boxing vs mma shit)

I see so not many people work on their boxing in MMA? Penn is the one that does it the most?

No, people work boxing, just not enough as the elite pro boxers do.
Penn is actually a great boxer for MMA, solid boxer overall. Hes got very solid head & body movement and hes a good puncher with a good chin.

I can't remember where I read it but some boxing trainer said he could make BJ a champ within 2 years. Its quite hard to imagine though because Arlovki;s boxing career is pretty much on the rocks now, as is Sylvia's lol.
but Bj is a little more complete than those two so who knows, there is nothing written in our DNA that says if we are in MMA we will suck at boxing.

Its a cliche you always hear about Penn, but hes so talented.
Boxing is the aspect of fighting that most relies on natural talent.
Penn has as much as anyone. he's better than Arlovski, who just looks like a gd boxer without being one imo.

above journeyman then, hes too deliberate and would have the lowest workrate of any boxer had he fought at MW. Great chin though and heavy hands

Arlovski is good at posing and moving like he can box but everytime he throws a punch , he leaves his fragile chin dangling. The only boxing he should be doing is shadwoboxing (coz hes good at it) and start remembering how to do Sambo.

If BJ had dedicated himself to boxing I think he could have been a top level boxer. Just with a handfull of years training hes became arguablly MMAs best boxer. BJ is a wonderful athlete he trained wrestling for a few months and now is one of the better wrestlers in MMA as far as having no pedigree and it took him only 3 years to become the best at BJJ. We seen what he did in the pool, the guy is a sick and unreal kind of person.

Yeah I agree,
Looking at Penn you really dont think much of him but man he shocks me out there. Very good fighter.

BJ has very good boxing skills. Nice footwork, good technique and his skills are class. However when he gets tired (which is relatively quickly) his footwork gets sloppy as does the rest of his game.
He is a good boxer but his cardio makes him a touch sloppy which is a real shame.

He's the only Mixed Martial Artist who i truly believe would do well in a boxing ring. He has very good hands, good power, a granite chin and variation in his punching technique. He can be a bit flatfooted sometimes but thats generally as you already said when he gets tired.

Yeah but I think Boxing is a little more cardio based in some areas, so he wouldn't be able to get away without being in shape. If he was out of shape I doubt he would be able to do a 12 rounder

You can't compare like that. You have to be very deliberate when boxing in MMA, since otherwise you get taken down. You can't smother your opponent in combinations as you can in regular boxing. And that also affects your punch out-put.
Penn is the best boxer I've seen in MMA, even if it was impressive to see GSP matching him in this department. But his technique is very good, below a world class level in boxing, but not by a terrible margin.

Very very good for mma purposes.

It's amazing that BJ is known for his incredible (on an mma standard) boxing skills, yet he got into MMA through BJJ. People seem to look past that while he is the best boxer in the LW division, he is also by far the best grappler as well. If he is beating you on the feet, then your fucked because your not gonna win a ground war with him either. Unless your much bigger and stronger and equally as skilled (GSP) ....or unless he gasses.

It's a crying shame. His cardio looked a touch better but to build that resevoir he'll have to not get fat and keep training hard for the next fight.

True, Penn can take a great shot, has decent boxing & quite heavy hands, thats why he fairs well the majority of his time when standing but he aint no boxer in the real sense of the word, his best strengths are his world class BJJ & his takedown defence IMO.
Penn possibly has the best BJJ of any elite MMA fighter & its that skill more than any other that has cemented his place in any sane persons mind as the GOAT at 155 lbs & very near the top in a p4p sense.
Penn's boxing skills for MMA fighting are tremendous.

BJ Penn punches like Bazooka Limon if you know what I mean. He doesn't dance and jab - but his punches are solid.
