Jono Thaxton has sensationally revealed that his father believes Manchester's John Murray will stop him if they do fight.
"People have said why don't you hang them up, but i want to win that Lonsdale belt outright." said Jono.
"It's something i've always wanted and something my dad always wanted."
"The other day my dad asked me: why don't I retire?... i said to him that i've got one more fight in me. 'Who is it?' my father asked and I told him it was John Murray.
My father just looked at the floor for a moment - then I asked him what he thought about the fight - and my father declared that he thought Murray was going to beat me, stop me and finish me."
"My father is usually right 9 times out of 10, but i swear i'm going to make him eat them words this time!"
When reflecting on his two back defeats, Jono believes that both fights could have gone either way.
"My fight with Mezzache was extremely close and many people thought i'd won that and was unlucky to lose my European title. And my last fight could have gone either way, despite fighting two weight classes above my natural weight (Jono boxed at Welterweight)".
"This Murray fight is where i'll leave my legacy. I'm going to go out and give my absolute all - both in training and in the fight."
"All the fights i should have won on paper, but didn't..well it's because i just wasn't scared. Being scared brings out the best of me."
"Fighting John Murray, that will get that going in me, he will get me scared and that's what will bring the best out of me."
"I plan on fighting the perfect fight."
The British Lightweight Title battle will take place on Sat 3rd October 2009 at Altrincham Leisure Centre.:think
