Jono Thaxton has sensationally revealed that his father believes Manchester's John Murray will stop him if they do fight.

"People have said why don't you hang them up, but i want to win that Lonsdale belt outright." said Jono.

"It's something i've always wanted and something my dad always wanted."

"The other day my dad asked me: why don't I retire?... i said to him that i've got one more fight in me. 'Who is it?' my father asked and I told him it was John Murray.

My father just looked at the floor for a moment - then I asked him what he thought about the fight - and my father declared that he thought Murray was going to beat me, stop me and finish me."

"My father is usually right 9 times out of 10, but i swear i'm going to make him eat them words this time!"

When reflecting on his two back defeats, Jono believes that both fights could have gone either way.

"My fight with Mezzache was extremely close and many people thought i'd won that and was unlucky to lose my European title. And my last fight could have gone either way, despite fighting two weight classes above my natural weight (Jono boxed at Welterweight)".

"This Murray fight is where i'll leave my legacy. I'm going to go out and give my absolute all - both in training and in the fight."

"All the fights i should have won on paper, but didn't..well it's because i just wasn't scared. Being scared brings out the best of me."

"Fighting John Murray, that will get that going in me, he will get me scared and that's what will bring the best out of me."

"I plan on fighting the perfect fight."

The British Lightweight Title battle will take place on Sat 3rd October 2009 at Altrincham Leisure Centre.:think

That is brutally honest and you have to respect him for that considering he's talking about his own son. It is the truth, though- Murray TKO 9.

What a refreshingly honest opinion and not just that. Fair play to Jon for telling everyone that too. I do respect Thaxton a lot.

Thaxton is a warrior the man loves a tear up and is a model pro and he will use this to fire him up...he likes this situation...no pressure he can go in there and fire away...but will it be enough....i'm not sure..Gonna be great fight.

A year ago I'd have agreed with you, Mandanda, but I see this being all one-way traffic, TBH:-(. I hope Johnno's got something left, though, as he's been a fantastic servant to British boxing.

I think it be competitive for four rounds and then i see Murray getting into groove but i can never write Thaxton off he's a back to the wall type fighter. I get what your saying though this has come a year to late.

I like Thaxton but recently he seems to fade very badly in the 2nd half of the fight, and I dont think he will be able to finish Murray in the first couple of rounds:-(

I think it's good of his dad to be brutally honest with him. And he's right. I can't see Thaxton winning this fight. He is just too far past it at this stage.

Thaxton is a fighter I really respect. Probablly why I've always overrated him in the past.

I think this is gonna be a really hard fight as Murray ain't fought no one as strong as Thaxton before and Thaxton is gonna be very hyped up for this unlike the Glover fight, I wouldn't be surprised if he knocked Murray out!!

I do think Murray will win but it won't be a formality like everyone thinks though, I feel the harsh words from his Dad could have a positive effect on him too.. I just hope Murray is well prepared and ready for his toughest night yet as a pro!!:good

If Thaxton is to have a chance (at this stage in his career) then he needs to try and hurt Murray in the first couple of rounds. Murray is notorious for starting slow and at his age Thaxton can not let him drag this into the later rounds
