View Full Version : Shumenov lost!!!
WBA light heavyweight champion Gabriel Campillo of Spain (19-2, 6 KOs) retained his title for the first time with a hard-fought, thrilling twelve-round unanimous decision over sensational Kazakh prospect Beibut Shumenov (8-1, 6 KOs). Shumenov, WBO #6, WBA #9 and WBC #15 175lber in the world, fighting for the major belt in his ninth fight as a pro, started the bout aggressively, throwing punches in bunches but mostly to the block of his opponent. Campillo was fighting smoothly, trying to counter the challenger from the distance and displaying savvy boxing skills in controlling the tempo. Kazakh Shumenov was visibly tired at the halfmark of the fight but dug deep to catch the second wind as the collision went on. In round nine already fatigued but yet powerful Shumenov floored the champion with a hard left to the chin. Campillo, seemingly on the brink of defeat, was able to regroup and fought back with the zeal. Championship rounds were back-and-fourth but the Spaniard solidified his position with a wicked left hook to the body that put Shumenov down early in the twelfth. At the end of the day, all three judges saw the battle in a favor of the defending titlist: 114-112, 114-112 and 114-113 – for Campillo. Fightnews reporter saw it 113-113 a draw. All in all, an exciting two-way action and a strong effort by 25-year old Shumenov.
That's a real shame, but credit to Campillo, two tough away assignments he's come through now. He seems to come on strong later in the fights.
Can see a rematch looking at the scoring.

I saw, Ish:-(. Didn't manage to find a stream, though. 8-1 but not done by any means- probably just a few fights too soon.

wow sounds a good fight, going to try seek out a copy.
i always thought that Campillo guy could be a dark horse of the division.
Shumenov will be back this will probably make him into a better fightewr and that Campillo is pretty young too i can see a good rivally happening.

I was thinking that too, Pater. Maybe Campillo has earned his respect now he has two solid wins in succession. I also didn't say above that I am very happy Shumenov didn't get an unfair home decision- are you watching Germany?

Im happy your on a downer cos I actually sat at the game and watched us get thumped!! We were terrible today we really were:-(
As for Shumenov, It's come too early and he didn't have the long fight experience behind him!! It's a special feat to be fighting for a world title in your 9th fight though it really is, I see him winning the rematch if Im honest as he'll benefit massively from this exeprience!!
Campillo is very tough and can punch so Shumenov must be truly world class to be close to beating someone of that calibre after only 8 fights!! Crazy..;)

I did't want to bet on this as I thought it may be close. End of the day its some going taking someone of Campillos stature that close in your 9th fight. He will the next and I see a trilogy (well done Pater I agree with you)
Anyways I wacked my whole wad (Nearly 7k on Luevano tonight :huh

Fuck. We can now look forward to Campillo surrendering his title to Braehmer in the coming months and then watch Braehmer make 10+ meaningless defences against mediocre opposition over the next few years. Brilliant.

I honestly think Shumenov will come back stronger from this.
A few warm ups/learning fights and if not a rematch with Campillo then a match with WBO 'champ' (ahem) Zsolt Erdei.

I have a season ticket pal.. Im a huge fan mate and go to as many games as possible although Im a bit ashamed of that fact after today..:-(
I think Lescott should be allowed to leave, No point in keeping a player there if he don't wanna be there mate, His heart ain't in it to be fair and if Im totally honest I can't blame him!
If someone comes in and offers you 2x the amount of money to do the exact same job but just in a diffrent place then what can he do?? There is no such thing as loyalty in football!! Today was bad though for us, We need to buy some attacking midfield players or some kind of creativity,
The last time I saw Everton that bad was a many years ago when Efan Ekoku come to Goodison and scored 4 goals one boxing day!! I won't talk about that again though..:verysad

To be fair Bomber if Lescott was an Everton boy at heart then you can slate him. he's not, he's a greedy footballer who's had his head turned by the £££'s. City are shits for doing it but its the way footballs going now. Probably wanted to live in the best city in the UK. Hows your old man mate ?

I'd love to see him do that to them again.. Now that would be funny however I feel Liverpool are gonna have a good season, I just hope they don't win the league or Champions League.. I'll shed tears if I have to listen to another kopite going on about Istan(fuck1ng)bul.... Arshavin is world class and a bargain..

The old man is good pal thanks..:good
As for Lescott, A friend told me last year that now he's with England he'll soon be off cos his head will get turned and the other players will be saying come and join us here and get this amount there..
It's sad cos he'd still be in the championship if it wasn't for us mate, I remember when we signed him and everyone was saying £5mil was a gamble and that no one else wanted to pay that much, Moyes seen something in him and it's worked out a great signing, I would just say bye to him now and take the 23mil on offer..;)
P.s he lives in the best city now..He also plays for the greatest club in the world too..;-)

:lol:I'm not bothered to be honest, I just find it funny how everyone goes off on a tangent- in this case I'm not to blame, though:D. I think Shumenov will probably get a rematch as the scorecards and report on the fight were both really close. Post more often, Tone:good.

23 mill for Lescott! Moyes should be celebrating, Lescott is a good player, but that is double his value.
Everton should have put in a sneaky bid for Deco.
I agree, I would hate to see Liverpool win either the title or CL.
As a Man United fan, I am not sure where our goals are coming from this year, but I would love it if Owen scored against the pool at Anfield, it would sicken those cunts!
