View Full Version : Lacy - RJJ predictions

I didn't want to make a special thread dedicated to this fight as it's not that worth it really.
But I've had these nagging feelings for a couple of days that this isn't going to be as straightforward as people think.
Lacy is so one paced (slow at that) that he shouldn't be able to get close to Jones but RJJ does that thing where he lays on the ropes for 20-30 second spurts quite frequently. The problem is that Lacy is quite a tough mofo and can take quite a beating so it's unlikely that it ends early in Roy's favour. Roy can get sloppy with that guard though.
All of which makes me think that Lacy at 10/3 are decent odds - probably better value by stoppage given Roy's chin.
I'd still favour RJJ don't get me wrong but there's pretty good value in Lacy here and my nagging suspicion ain't going away.
Anyone else think this isn't exactly a foregone conclusion?

RJJ via a shutout or late TKO. Lacy will retire after tonight:deal.

very hard to choose. thinking and hoping Jones but lacy could take it. i wouldn't be suprised if jones knocks him out or gets knocked out.

All logic points to Jones... agreed.
But those defensive positions he adopts makes him a static enough object for Lacy to get close. Something interesting is going to happen in the later rounds.

Thats why I stuck 50p on Lacy KO9 at 40/1.I expect a RJJ UD in a boring fight but Roy might be in trouble if he lays on the ropes and lets Lacy unload

I wouldn't put myself through a lack of sleep for this fight if you paid me.
Jones can stop him if he really puts his mind to it, but he probably won't. Taylor hurt Lacy pretty bad, Roy is more than capable of doing the same, its just whether he has it in him to try and force a stoppage these days...
Should actually be a good fight, I agree Lacy can get close.

I will probably be up until about 2ish anyway, havent even looked to see where they are fighting....
There's something really intriguing about this matchup for some reason even though it's a nothing fight.

Roy will win. He will bust Jeff up and it might be that the fight could be stopped. There's only so many beatings a man can take and just don't see what Jeff has to offer. He needs go at it from get go and get into fight otherwise he will get picked off against a faded Jones. It's not a fight i'm bothered about but i just want both to be safe and Roy to win. I hope if Jeff does lose he hangs them up he has nothing to be ashamed of he held a title and made some decent money.

Left Hook Lacy... Only Jonny Nelson can match Lacy in the completely inappropriate nickname stakes just now.

Lacy's left-hook is shot. His left arm might as well be amputated.

Funny how people call Vitali a quitter when he done the same injury as Jeff and give up and Jeff fought on for 7 odd rounds and is completely fucked now

Lacy is a bit too tough for his own good though. He could still have a career if he had the coldness of the Eisenfaust.

Even at his best he probably had a better right hand anyway, but straight-right Lacy doesn't quite roll of the tongue the same.
Lacy's shoulder is done, his punch resistance(compared to what it was) is somewhat done and his belief is done. Jones is gonna win this in a boring UD for me.
I like Jeff though and actually hope he does manage to pull of the upset, but he's gonna need a ko to do it and that's something he hasn't produced in nearly 4 years !

My gut feeling is that Jones will be ahead on the cards but Lacy will have had some success with his power a few times during the first 4-5 rounds, altough Jones manages to win them, but i got the feeling Lacy will land a few brutal hooks some point as Jones is moving off the ropes, Jones down, gets up and is stopped on his feet.
Thats a gut feeling and how i can imagine it.
However, if Jones wins it will be an easily embarrassing UD for me...Ill boxrec the result in the morning, but im hoping for RJ Juniour to win (Y).

sounds like a few of the lads stayed up to watch it, I read online that Jones toyed with him all night and then it got stopped as Lacy was just a punchbag. Can't say I am surprised at that outcome...

Yep, Roy was on the ropes while lacy was going to the body talking to the crowd saying "watch this" and then unloading on him with combinations.
Lacy's face was a mess, not for the first time.

The same thing should of heppened on in the Calzaghe fight.... that ref in Manchester that night never helped his career much did he? not that he was that good to begin with obviously.

You can't really blame the ref, it was a unification fight and Lacy wasn't exactly out on his feet, just severely outclassed.
Besides, Calzaghe would still be getting criticism for a "dubious stoppage".
His corner, on the other hand, I blame entirely. Dan Birmingham was bad for Lacy, an awful trainer regardless of the awards he won.

Although his corner probably should have pulled him out in that fight, the fact that they didn't had little effect on his career imo.
The 2nd round in the 2nd fight against Tsypko is where his career truly ended(when the shoulder went).

Lacy looked about as effective on with Jones on the ropes as Foreman against Ali.

Lacy was never good enough in the first place. He's defiencies as a figher were VERY clear from his early fights as well as his close bout with Sheika.
I just dont get Lacy. He has the right attitude but fuck knows what he works on in the gym. He possess's no boxing brain to speak of. No jab, no head movement no variety in his punching, no combinations, he always loads up and can be seen throwing a mile off etc etc. He may aswell call it time or rebuild by fighting C and B level guys and LEARN how to box behind the jab.
Lacy was ALOT of US hype and nothing else.

Those ropes looked suspiciously very, very loose to me.
Not saying that it would have really made any difference though, as Lacy clearly couldn't hit anything and is even more shot than Jones.

I thought the same before they went into the ring when he had his T shirt on. He looked really chubby, I was going to comment on it.
It was his first fight at light heavy. There are no weights listed on boxing rec....

agree completely with this, lacy was just a superhype job,no boxing brain but a good left hook.
IMO he has only mostly fought c and b level fighters,or well shot robin reids of this world.
when lacy stepped up a level with JC and taylor,he was well beaten.
christ jones is well past it,but he outclassed him:good
