In case some of you guys didnt notice the Mayweather vs Marquez card which includes Michael Katsidis's Interim world title & Perth based Chris John's Featherweight title defense will be shown on tape delay on Tuesday 22nd September 48 hours after it is already completed.
Instead Main Event are going with UFC 103 PPV on Sunday Sept 20.
Sad sad day for us boxing fans in Australia as the Mayweather vs Marquez fight card is easily 1 of the best of the year & features an Australian fighter & a Australian based Indonesian on the televised undercard.

This is the first time, UFC has been bumped for boxing all previous occasions (UFC 100 being the last)
I think this represents how the PPV figures are going, UFC are getting pretty damm good figures now and boxing PPVs which don't feature Hatton or DLH struggle
Gonna be a download now for this one

All has to do with Timing....I hate mainevent at times but this is not their fault as they already had booked the Mayweather fight for when it was meant to take place.....So booking the UFC fight was no problem until mayweather pulled out hurt and they changed the date for the same day as the UFC.
Main Event already booking the UFC had no chance but to go ahead with it as planned, THOUGH IT SUCKS and i wished they would change it as Katsidis is a friend and a great fighter not seeint it live will suck BUT heres hoping the pubs show it.
But main event are joking if they think we will pay out $40 for a 2 day delay fight.

UFC must have a strong contract with main event, with this card. Mayweather injury has fuck up Mainevent and boxing fans
and its only franklin vs belfort on ufc 103. Nothing to jizz over. Ok cro cop is fighting on the same card but its not a title fight and cro cop isnt as good as he used to be...
Is this fight really better (even for UFC fans) than Money vs JMM??????

Thank you for your feedback.
Main Event management are currently in negotiations for the broadcast rights to Vitali Klitschko vs Chris Arreola and Kelly Pavlik vs Paul Williams.
We hope to confirm both events in the coming weeks.
onehd should take it if main event cant....

Nope. They will show Pac v Cotto. I think they will say they already had this UFC card booked and since the Floyd/Marquez show was originally scheduled for an earlier date, they can't change it now.

Apparently (and inexplicably from where I sit) UFC sells considerably more PPVs than boxing unless it is a Mundine or De La Hoya fight therefore where there is a clash of dates they will go with UFC. Pacquiao v Cotto is same day therefore we will lose out! It is simple economics!

Any email mentioning numbers to Main Event will be met with silence, trust me.
What over events that have clashed have seen boxing come second?
Tell me what pubs and venues show UFC?

In every other instance I can remember, boxing has always won out. The difference this time is, as mentioned previously, I'm assuming ME have already entered into a contract for the UFC or booked satellite time for it.
For some reason, they are only able to run one event per day. I'd guess that is because they can only "unblock" it to subscribers for that amount of time, so if there were two events and someone bought A they'd be able to see B as well for free.
Look at the list of venues that show Boxing on Fox & SKY for PPVs sometimes 100+ which is money that UFC doesn't bring in. To my knowledge ME have never released numbers on any event, the best you'd get out of them is 'it did well' etc. A polite enquiry I sent to them some months ago requesting the ten best sellers for boxing (no numbers asked for) was never answered. The response Kagsy got is the general line they take. They are a private company answerable to themselves.

Guys,
This issue came up a few weeks ago in reverse. Vic Darchinyan's Abeko title tilt was on the same day as UFC 100, which was kinda of a big deal to the MMA community.
What this move tells you is that they put boxing first, then did a bath on the Darchinyan fight but made a considerable packet from the UFC event.
What this move also tells us is that:
A) Foxtel is really pretty shitty at being mature enough in its decision making process for PPV: HOWEVER - At least they did reply to emails about the UFC card and no one that I watched with really complained when I told them that Vic was going for a legit world title.
B) How insane is it that they can't run two PPV's on the same day when you can watch any number of movies on PPV, or that you have to pay EXTRA for Stetanta even though they're going broke. They should be able to fit two PPVs on in a day.
C) Its a sad day for boxing as economic rationalisation is showing that as a marketable product, the UFC is starting to overtake our favourite sport in Australia.
Maybe Fox are just doing it this way to pay back MMA fan's for not dropping out of the race when it came to buying UFC 100 a day late.
The best thing we can do as fans, unfortunatley - Is make sure we all buy the fight.

Yep, profits wouldn't even come close.
Someone suggested that OneHD should take the JMM-floyd fight. Thats not a half-bad suggestion. Someone should write to OneHD and suggest it (not me coz it'd be pointless as Im overseas and wont get to watch it anyways.)

Ok. Let's use some common sense. They don't choose anything it all has to do with business contracts. Different fights and other events are scheduled with different notice periods, some are locked in well in advance, others piss around with a few pencilled in dates etc. Sometime UFC will get in first sometimes boxing. Generally the UFC timetable is organised more regularly and inadvance. There is no conspiracy or pattern to it. Money may have an influence, that is the price for them and how much they feel they can charge.
Given they (Mainevent) do not seem to care much about MMA or boxing based on what they seem to offer us I'd say they probably don't get many buys for either and make their money off the pubs and hotels etc - which is why they try to rip us off with $50 local fights. I have heard many a barman talk about the highway robbery of Mainevent for events they think will do well. Think about it, they would make more from the pubs so will do what they can to encourage people to go there. How many mates turn up to watch a fight at the pub? If I put on a BBQ and free piss I still only get few takers. Maybe its just me. . .
If they sell way more MMA events then why does hardly anyone I speak to seem to have seen the MMA events? I catch most of both events (I prefer boxing by miles) but rarely find anyone who has seen MMA events live. There are unfortunately plenty of wrestling fans out there for some reason, oh yeah heaps of people are dumb.
You can talk about them "choosing" one sport over another but as a busines they will do that for the money, no other reason. If there was enough money in it there would be 14 Mainevent channels, and if they actually sold lots they'd shout the numbers from the rooftops and put them in every ad.
I too have written many an angry e-mail to mainevent, and polite ones asking why with nothing in response. They shit me but without spending ages farting aorund on computers how else am I gonna see the fights live?
Most importantly my mates that work in paytv have said this is at least half correct, and whenever they have tipped me off about upcoming events they've always been right, bit it seems logical anyway, well it does after a few beers.

I heard pretty much the same about Fostel/Main Event taking a big hit by opting for Vic over UFC 100 and this is why we will even see the bona fide fight of the year in Pacquiao v Cotto get relegated for UFC104.

C'mon mate, heard where? A UFC Forum? The take from pubs alone would kill any UFC card.
They won't show Pac-Cotto live? Hmmm, 100+ venues paying somewhere between $400-$1000 for it, nah, bugger them, lets teach them boxing fans a lesson and show UFC instead.
Yep, the pub I was at was shattered to have over 500 paying customers in at 10am for Pac-Hatton.
Now that SKY has the venues sewed up, it makes me wonder if Main Event were outbid for that side of things. In the past SKY and ME have run the same event, but with their home market locked in with UFC for the day, SKY may stole a march on ME for Mayweather-Marquez.

Main Events Response To My Constant Emails LOL
-------------------------------------------------
Due to technical reasons, the Main Event Channel can only show one Pay Per View event per day. In this instance Main Event has a previously scheduled event on Sunday, September 20 (UFC 103), so is unable to broadcast the Mayweather v Marquez fight which has been scheduled at the same time in the USA.
Main Event is only one channel and there are no other options to broadcast pay-per-view boxing on another channel. It is unfortunately current limitation of the service.
Knowing fight fans will still want to see the fight, Main Event will broadcast delayed coverage of the Mayweather v Marquez Event on Tuesday the 22nd, Wednesday the 23rd and Saturday the 26th. And as the fight will be on-delay, Foxtel, Austar and Optus are offering this fight at a reduced price – please check with your service provider.
Kind regards,
Main Event

The UFC 103 card is pretty weak, I'm more of a MMA fan but I'll be watching Mayweather v Marquez at the pub if sky is showing it!
Pac v Cotto have got some stiff competition with UFC 104 which is boosting Machida v Rua as the main event. This is a card I want to see live!
As far as mainevents discounts go I believe I got a $5 off for the delayed coverage of UFC 100, which I think is pretty lousy.
