Stevens-Dirrell
I've NEVER seen a more boring fight. You had a short pressure fighter (Stevens) and a real fast kid with good reflexes (Dirrell). The problem was that Dirrell wasn't willing to sit down on his punches, show any class, or stand still for one second while Stevens showed that he was so limited, he couldn't even throw a body punch or effectively cut off the ring. Neither guy is going to be on HBO anytime soon.

I've never seen a Mayweather fight as boring as Taylor-Spinks. Don't be hating on Mayweather. He may be very defensive and land only one punch at a time, but none of his fights were TAYLOR-SPINKS. My god that was a terrible fight.

Stoney is always amusing.
I wouldn't call him exciting.
I'm surprised the Russians didn't toss him into some gulag in Siberia after his antics with Valuev.
Despite the KD's the fight was boring and the result a robbery.

I was at this pretty high class bar watching the fight wasted and I was screaming at the TV, it sempt so exciting at the time, I was wondering why everyone was looking at me instead of the fight. Then two days later when I was scoring the fight I felt so foolish getting excited over that bullshit, I realized I was prolly more entertaining to the people than the fight.
Yeh it was exciting watching it live. Exciting cos you didnt know if floyd would catch a left hook flush.

One of the most boring was watching yuri foreman vs anthony thompson on the undercard of cotto vs judah.
Especially after hearing that they were two good prospects.
The most entertaining thing was thompson tape in his hair:tired.
Also my family was watching it too so i wanted them to get into boxing more, then they didnt even watch cotto-judah.

In terms of a high-profile fight, I'd go for Roy Jones Jnr Vs Hopkins. That was a snoozer.
Jones Jnr had by far the superior power of the two but was still reluctant to take a chance at any point.
I'm surprised people vote for De La Hoya Vs Mayweather - I thought it was an excellent tactical masterpiece, if not a breathtaking encounter.

Whenever there is an Hopkins fight shown live in the UK, it's always on around 3am. There's no way I can watch 12 rounds of Hopkins at that time of morning without dozing off before the end of round 4.
I always record it and watch it next morning with a pot of strong coffee. This ensures I last until about round 9 before dozing off. By then I've got the general idea.

Byrd-Williamson. Dirrell-Stevens is a close second.
Can't say I saw Leon v Nelson or Sprott v Williams, and by the sounds of it, I'm glad I didn't. People who are saying PBF/Baldomir are just bitter that they paid for the blowout, but while that was somewhat boring, it wasn't even close to Dirrell-Stevens, Taylor-Stinks, Foreman-Thompson or even Hopkins-Taylor I.
Briggs-Lyakhovich would take the cake if not for the 12th round. Same for Ruiz-Oquendo if not for the 11th.

Ruiz-Oquendo. The worst of the worst, and by "the worst" I mean Ruiz's fights.
Fraudley VS The Brixton Bhiriani-gobbler was terrible until the 10th, after which it was passable.
The worst fight of my favourite boxer (Lewis)? Lennox Lewis VS Dan Murphy. Murphy threw about 3 punches a round, and because of his chin/footwork he was just about impossible for Lewis to stop. The ref basically stopped it because he was bored of watching Lewis hit Murphy in the body followed by Murphy running away.
The worst fight between usually entertaining boxers I've ever seen was Tito-DLH.
The most consistently boring fighter I've ever seen is Jermain Taylor. I've never enjoyed one of his fights because of him; Wright-Taylor was passable because Winky pressed the action and threw punches for the both of them. Hopkins and Taylor disgraced the sport in their fights. When Corry Spinks is making the "fight", you know he's facing an outrageously boring boxer.
The Kurgan
09-12-2007, 03:54 PM
You call throwing one punch then holding a good fight?
It would have been a good fight if it hadn't been for Hopkins adopting a punch/butt/grab/wrestle strategy. I think Winky did enough for the fight to only be a dirty and boring disappointment.

I HAVE to see it if it is as bad as you guys say.I've tried finding clips of it before (I have trouble sleeping), but had no joy. If anybody ever taped it, they would've recorded over it or destroyed the tape just to be sure. It's possible that all footage of this fight has been destroyed, like they did with books in the Middle Ages in England.
If you get a chance to see it, my advice is DON'T. I made the mistake back in 1990 and it will haunt me 'till the day I die.
