“I’m very intrigued by him and his style and what he’s done. He’s so patient, he doesn’t care what the crowd is saying. He’s gonna fight the way he’s gonna fight and he doesn’t [care]. He’s been very successful at it and I’ve enjoyed watching him. He’s got a very unique fighting style and he intrigues me. That’s a fight I would be very interested in. At some level you have to meet a guy and step onto his turf a little bit to engage him to lead him away. It would be very interesting to see what that would take.”

Who wins? How?

Lyoto wins cause he's too good

Still, it's an intriguing sounding fight

Interesting. If Couture can make the weight without being drained to hell it might make a interesting fight.

I voted Randy. I know Machida is very good and Randy is getting on in years but Couture is a very smart fighter and always comes in with a good gameplan. Randy's experiance and ring smarts could get him over in this match up.

If id give anyone a shot at Machida it would be Randy he always has good strategys and would find a way to get a clinch with Machida and apply his style on him. I would love it if it happened lets say Randy wins this month and Machida in October you got 2 months before Rampage vs Rashad and what happens if Rashad wins ? Couture vs Machida would make perfect sense assuming Randy can make 205 comfertably still.

sorry Randy your a great fighter but he's too old now to win against Machida. I'd give Randy a hell of a chance if he was younger.

Randy's philsophy on beating strikers has always been "get inside, exchange, and use that to get the clinch followed by either dirty boxing against the cage or a takedown"

It worked like magic against Vitor twice, Chuck once, Gonzaga (slightly different case), and Sylvia. It got him laid out against Chuck twice.

While I don't think Lyoto has the pure power of Vitor, Chuck, or Gonzaga; Randy is not the guy who fought Vitor and beat Chuck anymore, he is closer to the guy who got clipped twice by Chuck.

So if he goes into that fight with the approach he always has, willinging striking to get what he wants, the odds are heavily against him. If he goes in their with some new gameplan, which he is the master of, he is still at a disadvantage but if he finds a way to get a good clinch, he can win.

So while he is a clear underdog, heavily if he goes in their looking to box, nothing is out of the question with this man, this super human, this comic book hero who has done the unthinkable or at least the highly unlikely time and time again, nothing is out of the question. How he looks against nog will have a lot to say about this.

Very true beebs. I think Couture has the tools and style to beat Machida, but whether he can or not can only be told after watching his fight against Nog.

I think Randy matches up well. He'll give Machida the rough house style.

A 46 year old man doesn't need to be cutting weight like Randy would so I think Machida would probably do him at 205. At heavyweight, I think it could be a bit different.

Randy is fucking old.

They should do a catchweight of 210 if 205 is too draining. If I remember correctly Couture fights at 220, not sure if that is his walk around weight or not. It shouldn't be for the title IMO, but more from an intriguing stand point like others in the thread have said.

Randy is barely a heavyweight. He comes in at a fairly light 220. Im sure he can still make 205 although i think he's better up at heavy taking into account his age.

At HW, his quickness by being naturally a little smaller gives him an advantage that doesn't exist against most LHW's. Machida has the quickness and ability to fight defensively enough to offset the smarts and gameplan of Couture.

randy is a smart person. he will try to make the fight at heavy. he would be too strong and rough with lyoto.

Machida movement and hand speed would be to much for Couture. Couture is a great competitor, and I can't write him off completely; but Machida by knock out.

You don't want to write Randy off but you kind of have to.

Quick hitting, straight punching strikers have badly hurt Couture before. (Pedro Rizzo)

Machida may not have the explosive kicks of Rizzo, but he strikes accurately, and strikes intelligently.

Randy is traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land of imagination. Next stop, the Twilight Zone!

After Machida's fight with Shogun - does Randy's chance improve? Let's see what everyone thinks after UFC 105.

That fight doesn't really affect my previous opinion. I picked Shogun by 3rd round stoppage against Machida.

I do not know a lot about Machida's ground game. If Couture gets the clinch, I do not doubt his ability to take the fight there.

I think Machida has too much speed for Randy, especially at this stage.

Randy gets taken out like his last two fights with Chuck.

Vera should do the job on Randy first though.

Gotta wait till after Saturday and see how a 46 year old Randy does at 205 agian. This fight with Vera could be similar in ways to Machida with their footwork, kicks and counter attacks.

This is what I'm thinking too. Never thought I'd see the day where I would pick Vera to beat Couture. :-(
