I've been really wanting to join a boxing gym for a while now, but I'm not fit at all. I can run about 250m at best before I'm knackered. I'm not fat but I have no stamina whatsoever.
I don't really want to join now because I'm afraid I won't be able to do any of the training. What should I do?

Theres agruments for both, as long as you wont be put off id say join itll soon sort your fitness out. However personally i went a couple years ago and wasnt very fit. I had to quit cos i went to australia. Started again 5 months ago but i am 1000x fitter now lol so i can just concentrate on the technique and enjoy the boxing part of it lol:good

With that attitude, you may want to steer clear of a boxing gym... If you join, work hard and your weight will come down, its not like they expect only athletes to walk in, actually, I sucked at every sport I played but boxing.

Don't worry, I'm only 15. Good time to start I think.
The thing is, I'd think I'd do well on everything except something like jogging. I can cycle well though, so can I substitute that for the jogging?

cant see the problem as long as the time you train for and intensity is proportional to that if you were jogging.
Gyms are there to get you in shape.

You're right I guess, I'll probably just have to get used to behind behind in fitness until I get fitter.
As RDJ said, the gym is there to get you in shape, the coaches are there to teach you to box. You won't get thrown in at the deep end - no coach wants to scare people away from their gym.
Get yourself to the gym, join in the fun, keep your mouth shut and work as hard as YOU can, listen to the coaches, take your time and don't be afraid to learn.
Indeed. Show up, shut up and glove up.

Why is everyone telling me to shut up?
Why is everyone telling me to shut up?
We don't mean here, but at the gym. Show up, listen to the coach, and never complain or question what's being told. That's what gets you anywhere in a gym. Be a machine, machines don't talk.

Don't take it personally, its nothing you have said or done.
I've lost count of the amount of people who turn up at the gym, bring an ego with them and open their mouth at every opportunity - they never last. Just call it good etiquette if you will. Remember, you are there to learn, just as people go to school to learn - when your in school, your teacher does the talking, and as the student, you listen, ask questions when you need to and learn, same goes in the gym. Just go to the gym, be honest and focus on doing as instructed by the coaches.

Trust me, I'm the least likely person to talk back to a trainer.
Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm gonna go next Monday. I have a friend who's joining with me(He's done it before) to help me get into it.

Hey, Cotto started boxing just to get fit. He was actually pretty tubby himself. Trust me, trainers aren't going to try to kill yourself, they're there to make you better. Like my gym, the first timers start off slow, and slowly build up
You'll be just fine. :good

You cant expect it to happen over night if you have a goal in your mind it takes hard work and time, give it two or three months do not short change yourself and you will get results

Why can't you jog?
Like eveyrthing, you have to work at it to get better at it - you need to actually do it in order to develop your own pace and breathing rythmn.
Jogging is the mainstay of developing fitness, you seriously need to work on it if you hope to increase your stamina and endurance, and it also helps you develop overall body coordination and balance.

You train to get fit. NOT get fit to train. I say join and they will work with you according to you fitness level and it will get better from there.

My mate joined, really sound guy. But my god he likes the sound of his own vioce! My attitude was mouth shut ears open ( and hands up lol). His is ask as many questions as possible all the time and tell the trainers how much he cant do because hes not flexible enough ( used to pump iron lol).
Love the guy but like get a grip lol:good
I wouldn't worry about it. When I first started boxing, I was 17 y.o, 6'3 and about 200 while be VERY out of shape. Hadn't had nearly any physical activity in over a year and a half and had been smoking weed prior to joining. Took me a couple months, but I quickly dropped to 165 in no time. Training was not fun for awhile but it paid off fast. Plus time you spend without going to the gym trying to get into shape, is time you could be spending getting in shape while also learning technique.
